국립원예특작과학원에서는 2011년 거베라 신품종 ‘Yellow Queen’을 육성하였다. ‘Yellow Queen’은 2007년 10월부터 2008년 2월까지 황색 반겹꽃 ‘Angie’와 ‘Ma’를 교배하여 획득 한 13개체의 실생계통으로부터 2009년부터 2011년까지 3년 동안의 개화 및 생육특성검정을 거쳐 선발된 절화용 스탠다드 거베라 품종이다. ‘Yellow Queen’은 초세강건한 흑색화심의 연황색(RHS Y9A) 반겹꽃 대륜계 품종이다. 꽃은 평균 직경이 11.8cm이고, 내부설상화의 길이와 화반의 직경은 각각 8.5cm 와 2.9cm로 꽃잎이 비교적 넓고 화형이 안정적이다. 꽃대는 꽃목직경이 상부 3.9mm, 하부 7.0mm 정도로 굵으며, 화경장 은 54.8cm로 비교적 길고 꽃자루 기부에 안토시아닌 정도가 매우 약하게 발현된다. 절화수명은 12.0일로 대조품종과 비슷 하며, 연간 채화량은 54.0본/주로 대조품종보다 2.9본/주 많은 다수성 품종이다.

Gerbera cultivar ‘Yellow Queen’ was bred by the National Institute of Horticultural & Herbal Science (NIHHS) in 2011. Light Yellow flowered cultivar ‘Angie’, which has semi-double flower type and green center, and Yellow flowered cultivar ‘Ma’, which has semi-double flower type and black center, were crossed from Oct. 2007 to Dec. 2007. Among 13 offsprings from this cross, ‘Yellow Queen’ was selected specially for the use of cut flower production after investigation of the phenotypic characteristic survey for four years (from 2007 to 2010). ‘Yellow Queen’ was a vigorous standard gerbera cultivar with yellow flower color (RHS Y9A) and black center disc f loret. I t had semi-double flower type. Its average flower diameter was 11.8 cm, and its inner ray floret and disc floret diameters were 8.5 cm and 2.9 cm, respectively. It had a thick peduncle width of which upper and lower part were 3.9 mm and 7.0 mm, respectively, and adequate peduncle height of 54.8 cm. The vase life of ‘Yellow Queen’ was 12.0 days, similar with the standard cultivar ‘Ma’. And its average flower yield per plant was 54.0 stems which was 2.9 stems higher than that of the standard cultivar ‘Ma’.
