Hemsl.)
The Flower Research Institute of the Chungcheongnam-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services released a novel garden chrysanthemum cultivar named ‘Lady Vin’ (Chrysanthemum × morifolium (Ramat.) Hemsl.) in 2021. Development of this cultivar began with a cross made in 2018, using the pink-flowered line ‘G18-138-03’ and the yellow-flowered cultivar ‘Gigi Gold’ as the female and male parents, respectively. Field trials were conducted under open-field conditions from 2019 to 2021 to evaluate the cultivar’s adaptability and overall performance. ‘Lady Vin’ is characterized by vivid pink semi-double flowers (RHS Red Purple 65B) and a dome-shaped growth habit, offering strong ornamental potential for landscape and container use. We compared the morphological characteristics of ‘Lady Vin’ with those of the standard cultivar ‘Marble Ball,’ and we conducted ploidy analysis and simple sequence repeat (SSR) marker profiling. ‘Lady Vin’ has distinctive features, such as a mounded, shrub-like growth habit, semi-double inflorescences with pink ray florets measuring approximately 3.7 cm in diameter. It flowered prolifically, producing around 2,248.1 blooms per plant during the autumn season. Although morphologically similar in flower shape and color with ‘Marble Ball,’ ‘Lady Vin’ differed significantly in flowering time and petal number. Bud initiation was early, and growth was vigorous; and it naturally bloomed around September 12. SSR analysis confirmed the genetic distinctiveness of ‘Lady Vin,’ supporting its recognition as a new cultivar. Developed primarily for ornamental landscaping, this garden chrysanthemum is expected to help increase growers’ income by serving as an attractive option for flower beds and public beautification projects.
