매창은 한국 사람들이라면 누구나 알 정도로 한국의 대표적인 기녀시인이다. 본 연구는 매창의 작품을 통해 조선조 여성 문화를 이해하고 매창의 시의식을 찾고자 한다. 매창은 1573년 태어났고 1610년에 죽었으며, 유희경, 허균, 이귀 등 명사들과 교류하고 수창하였고, 시와 거문고에 능하였다고 한다. 그녀가 죽은 지 58년만인 1668년에 시집『매창집』이 간행되었고 총 57수의 한시 작품이 남았다. 본고에서는 먼저 매창의 생애를 살펴보고 이를 바탕으로 시작품을 분석하였다. 작품의 특징은 여성으로서의 사랑과 이별이라는 내면 정서가 있다는 점이다. 그리움과 이별의 한을 주제로 고조시키는 동시에 애정을 직설적으로 표현하지 않고 은은하게 비유함으로써 상사(相思)의 강도를 높이는 역할을 하고 있다. 따라서 본문에서는 매창의 시작품을 주제별로 이별과 한, 그리고 상사 세 부분으로 분류하여 그의 시세계를 다루었다. 또한, 매창은 기녀라는 한계에 머물지 않고 당시의 재자인 허균, 이귀등과 교류하며 문학적 소질을 개발하여 우리에게 예술적인 매력을 주며 또한 감동시키고 있다. 매창의 생애와 문학에 대한 연구는 한국 기녀문학을 깊이 이해하는 데에 있어 의미 있는 작업이라 할 수 있으며, 한국의 여성문학을 연구하는 데에도 밑거름이 될 수 있을 것이다.

This paper comparatively studies on literary works of Mae Chang who respectively represent Korean prostitute poets, intended to conduct a further study on the life of Mae Chang and her literature world in Korean period.Mae Chang was born in 1573 and died after 1610, she was a good poetess, and an excellent keum player. In the 58years after her death in 1668, her poetry was published, total included 57 poems.This paper introduces Mae Chang's life stories and analysis of her poems on this basis. Her poetry is full of feminine face love and parting mood. To miss and boudoir theme at the same time, use the metaphor to express love to emphasize the strength of love. This paper will be divided into three themes od her poetry: parting, resentment and lovesickness. Mae Chang made friends with many scholar. She made her own artistic charm touched us. Study on her life and literary works can further promote the Korean literature understanding, do what litter one can to help for the study of Korean female literature.
