본고는 우원 이호빈목사의 전기적 바탕에서 그가 한 평생 추구한 예수 살기 공동체운동을 역사적으로 검토하고, 오늘 위기 상황에 있는 한국교회에 어떠한 개혁적 대안을 제시하는가 하는 점을 논구하려는 데 그 목적이 있다. 우원 이호빈목사의 한 생애는 그의 가족 경험과 신학의 시절 공동체생활(communal life)을 기초한 예수 공동체영성에 있다. 그의 영성은 교회 개혁을 위한 예수 교회운동으로, 그리고 교회와 사회 개혁을 위한 중안 신학교 설립 운동으로, 마지막에 교회와 사회, 세계의 개혁을 위한 흘리에 자연 공동체운동으로 확대되고 발전하였다. 우원의 삶은 예수를 따르는 것이다. 그것은 곧 예수와 함께 혈연을 넘어선 새로운 가족 공동체로서 예수 공동체를 이루는 것이었다. 운동은 일회적일 수 없다. 우원은 부단히 예수 공동체형성을 위한 노력을 기울였다. 그 결과에 대해 후학들이 무엇이라 평가하든지 그는 예수 공동체운동을 한국 교회 역사 속에서 일관되게 꾸준히 추진한 실천가요, 영성가이다.

Today, a crisis of Korean church lies in a rapid quantitative growth as well as loss of church's genuine communality and trait of movement. Jesus community movement is a communal movement following Jesus' life. It is true that Korea church pursued authoritarian sectarianism and mercenary individualism and lost communality from the outset of mission. However, it is since 1970-1980s when the church became a religious power with economic growth of Korean society that this has largely expanded. Therefore, the trait of movement of the Christianity having a dynamic power in its community has been weakened. The life of Woowon Rev. Lee Ho Bin can be characterized as Jesus community spirituality based on his family experience and communal life during his theological seminary days. His spirituality was developed and expanded to Jesus church movement for church reform, and to a movement to establish Jung An theological seminary for church and society reform, and lastly, to Hliee nature community movement for reforming the church, society and world. The life of Woowon was following Jesus's steps. In other words, that was to build a Jesus community with Jesus as a new family community beyond blood relatives.
