南冥 曺植은 수제자인 來庵 鄭仁弘을 자신의 분신으로 여겼다. 내암 도 남명의 이러한 기대를 저버리지 않고, 남명 사후 그를 추숭하는 일에 전력을 투구했다. 내암이 지은 ｢南冥 曺先生 行狀｣도 이러한 남명추숭 의식의 맥락에서 벗어나지 않는다. 남명은, 退溪 李滉의 출사 권유를 거절한 이후로 끊임없이 퇴계로부 터 여러 가지 비판을 받아왔으며, 이러한 비판은 퇴계의 문인들에게 그대로 전해져 내려왔다. 남명에 대한 퇴계의 비판은 급기야 남명의 문묘종사를 불가능하게 만드는 결정적인 요인이 되었고, 이에 대한 반 작용으로 내암은 죽음을 무릅쓰고 남명에 대한 퇴계의 비판을 해명하 는 데에 전력을 기울였다. 이러한 내암의 노력은 그가 지은 스승 남명의 행장에서도 그대로 드러난다. 내암은 남명의 행장에서 남명이 생전에 남긴 글을 인용하는 방식으로 남명의 출처의식과 남명의 학문관을 설파함으로써, 남명의 입장에 대한 옹호는 물론 나아가 퇴계에 대한 비판까지도 불사하는 하는 모습을 보였던 것이다.
