본 논문은 일반적인 다문화 교육의 관점을 통해 우리 사회의 다문화적 현상의 특성을 다문화 구성원들에서 찾고, 이를 바탕으로 언어교육의 측면에서의 문제와 그 문제의 해결 방향을 모색하는 데 목적이 있다.
먼저 한국의 다문화 사회와 다문화 교육의 현황을 살펴보고, 새터민, 재중동포, 국제결혼 여성과 외국인 노동자를 중심으로 우리의 다문화 사회의 특징을 소개하였다. 또한 다문화사회에서의 언어교육에 초점을 두고 다문화 가정의 자녀들의 학업 능력과 국어 능력에 대해서 제시하였다. 국어능력은 자국민의 국어 능력에 필적하는 온전한 국어능력을 갖추는 방향이 되어야 한다. 이에 따라 현재 진학 중인 아이들은 학교교육에서 특별한 프로그램을 제공하여 국어능력을 도모해야한다. 또한 학교 교육만으로 문제를 해결하려는 것은 완전한 해결방법이 될 수 없다고 보고, 정상적인 언어습득 방향에 대한 후속 연구를 제안하였다.

The objective of this study is to examine a characteristic of korea's multicultural society and to look for suitable plans for Korean language culture education. Korea's multicultural society is composed of an international marriage women, a foreigner laborer, North Korean defectors, and a overseas Koreans in Chaina. Especially, an international marriage women and their children became a focus of multicultural education. The children of international marriage have not an applicant`s academic achievement and an acquisition of Korean. Multicultural education helps they have a whole korean language ability. But school education can't solve effectively this problem, so Multicultural education need to help their acquisition of Korean language.
