본 연구에서는 중·고등학교에 재학 중인 복싱선수들이 경험하는 주요 스트레스 요인을 탐색하였다. 청소년 복싱선수 226명을 대상으로 복싱 관련 스트레스를 묻는 개방형 질문을 통해 얻은 총 474개의 원자료를 분석한 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 첫째, 선행연구와 마찬가지로 원자료의 대부분은 훈련과 시합의 부담, 실패 및 처벌의 두려움, 운동에 따른 개인적 손실, 학업 및 진로 걱정, 부정적인 대인관계, 기타의 영역으로 분류될 수 있었다. 둘째, 선행연구와는 달리 학업 및 진로 걱정 요인의 세부 영역인 학업 관리 문제에 대한 반응(0.6%)은 매우 낮았다. 이는 현행 학교운동부 운영시스템상의 문제와 관련이 있다고 생각된다. 셋째, 체중조절의 어려움에 대한 반응(30.8%)이 가장 많았다. 이러한 결과는 종목 특성에 따라 스트레스 요인이 달라질 수 있음을 의미한다. 따라서 후속 관련 연구에서는 종목의 특성을 고려한 스트레스 영역 분류 기준을 적용하는 것이 타당할 것이다.

This exploratory study was aimed to identify sources of stress in korean junior elite boxers. A total of 226 middle and high school-aged athletes in boxing responded to a open-ended stress question. Inductive content analysis of 474 responses showed that most sources of stress fit in the categories used in previous studies and resulted in six major categories of stress; training and competition demands, fear of failure and punishment, personal costs of sports involvement, worry of academic concerns and life direction, negative relationships with significant others, and other factors. In this study, worry of schoolwork as a sub-category of academic concerns was not frequently reported by research participants. It can be noted that this result is related to the comtemporary administration system of school-based sports program in Korea. The most frequently reported source of stress was a difficulty in weight management. It means that sources of stress can be different depended on the characteristic of the sport events. In the fowwing researches, special regard will be paid to this result.
