본 연구의 목적은 ‘점술가’로 분류되어 있는 명리상담업을 직업 고유의 가치를 발현하고, 사회적 순기능을 담당할 수 있는 직업군으로 전환하기 위해 국가직무능력표준화(NCS)하기 위한 방안을 제안하는데 있다.
명과학(命課學)은 운명을 예측하는 명학(命學)과 미래의 일을 예측하는 점학(占學) 및 길흉을 가리는 택일(擇日)로 나눌 수 있다. 명학은 명리학, 즉 사 주명리(四柱命理)로서 사람이 태어난 연월일시의 사주를 간지로 치환한 후, 그 상호관계를 해석하여 삶의 길흉 등을 추론하기 위한 예지논리 체계이다. 또한 조선에서는 천문학(天文學), 지리학(地理學)(풍수학(風水學))과 더불어 명 과학으로 정립하여 우수한 직업공무원으로 선출하던 체계였다.
그러나 오늘날 직업분류에 있어서 천문학은 ‘천문학연구원’으로, 지리학은 ‘풍수지리학자’로 되어 있으나, 명리상담업은 ‘기타 예식관련 서비스 종사원’의 ‘점술가’로 분류되어, 명리학 관련 이론적 배경이나 업무적 특성이 전혀 반영 되지 않은 직업 분류 체계의 한계성을 나타내고 있다. 따라서 명리학의 기원과 직업으로서의 역사성및 직무분석을 바탕으로 합리적이고 현실적인 명리상담업의 분류 체계와 직업으로서의 국가직무능력표준화가 되도록 핵심적인 직 무능력단위와 능력단위요소 및 수행준거를 개선방안으로 제시하였다.

The Myeonggwahak(命課學) classified destiny as predict of fate〔命〕, divination as forecast of an event〔占〕, and choice of an auspicious day as good or ill luck〔擇日〕. The destiny is Myeongrihak(命理學), namely, Saju-myeongri(四柱命理), deal with fatal prediction logic system that substitute Ganji(干支) and translate the relationship of year, month, day, and time in personal birthday.
Also it was public adoption system for smart technical officer in Chosun Dynasty that sorted Astronomy, Geology, and Myeongrihak in accordance with as Heaven(天), Earth(地), and Human(人).
Recently Astronomy changed Astronomer, and Geography varied Fengshui Geography in occupational classification. The Myeongrihak, however, classified only fortune-teller(占術家) not clearly matched it characteristics and historical background. Therefore this paper recommened improve to reasonable occupational classification and NCS for Myeongrihak that reviewed background and real vocational analysis basically. Especially it suggest vocational ability units and elements as the core contents of NCS in Myeongrihak.
