이 논문의 목적은 16세기 메노나이트 지도자였던 더크 필립스의 사상을 밝히고 그의 중심 사상을 논의함으로 그의 기독론이 보이는 교회에 관한 관점과 연결되어 있음을 밝히는 것이다. 먼저 더크 필립스의 생애를 간략하게 다룰 것인데 이를 통해 그의 신학의 형성과정과 그의 사역 환경을 이해하는 데 도움이 될 것이다.
더크는 동시대의 다른 종교개혁 지도자들과 달리 매우 독특한 기독론 (호프만의 ‘천상의 육체론’을 기본으로 한)을 발전시켰기 때문에 기독론은 그의 신학을 이해하는데 매우 중요한 틀이라고 할 수 있다. 더크에 관한 지금까지의 연구에서도 그의 기독론을 그의 사상을 이해하는데 핵심 신학으로 여겨져 왔으며 실제로 더크의 저작의 분량에서도 기독론의 비중이 높은 것이 사실이다. 그러나 이 논문에서는 그의 기독론이 그의 보이는 교회의 관점과 긴밀한 관련이 있다는 것을 밝히며 이러한 관점에서 그의 기독론을 이해하고자 한다. 예를 들면, 더크의 기독론 안에 성육신의 논의가 신학적으로도 의미가 있지만, 그는 성육신의 교리는 신자들이 거룩한 삶을 살기 위한 측면에서 매우 중요한 것으로 이해하며 성육신은 인간의 그리스도 안에 거룩한 본성을 갖도록 하는 데 중요하다는 것을 강조한다.

The purpose of this paper is to shed light on the thought of Dirk Philips, who was a Mennonite leader in the sixteenth century, and to argue that his central doctrine, his Christology are interrelated with his view of the visible church. This paper outline Dirk Philips’ brief biography first. A look at Dirk’s life reveals the process of the formation of his theology and helps to understand his situation of ministry.
Christology is a very important concept in understanding his theology because Dirk developed a distinctive Christology(on the basis of Hoffman’s ‘celestial flesh’ Christology), unlike other contemporary Christian leaders. After examining Dirk’s Christology, this paper will reveal the aspects of his Christology that are associated with his view of the visible church. In particular, his concept of the incarnation in his Christology is positioned as the most important doctrine for the saints to live a holy life, because he believed that the incarnation causes humans to have divine nature in Christ.
