조대수 석패방은 랴오닝성 흥성에 있으며 명나라 숭정(崇禎) 4년에 칙명을 받들어 건축된 공덕패방이다. 본 연구는 조대수 석패방 인물 이야기 그림을 연구 대상으로 삼고, 사료를 찾아 석각 그림을 분석하여 석각의 내용을 고찰하였다. 조대수 석패 방의 횡방 부분에는 4개의 세트 그림이 있는데, 각각 3개씩 총 12개의 인물 그림이 조각되어 있다. 남쪽 1층 횡방에는 조대수 가 사냥을 갔을 때 몽골군에게 기습당한 적이 있는데, 이로 인 해 조대수가 징벌을 받고 하옥됐다는 이야기가 조각되어 있다. 남쪽 2층 횡방에는 조대수가 각화도(覺華島)로 피신했을 때, 손 승종(孫承宗)이 조대수를 불러서 만리장성을 축조하도록 한 내 용이 새겨져 있다. 북쪽 1층 횡방에는 조대수가 영금대첩(寧錦 大捷)에서 전공을 세운 내용이 담겨 있다. 북쪽 2층 횡방에는 조선 사신의 방문 이야기가 조각되어 있다. 북서쪽에는 조대수 가 잉어약룡문(鯉魚躍龍門)을 차용해 원숭환(袁崇煥)에 대한 감 사를 표현하는 내용이 담겨 있다. 조대수 석패방에는 석각의 형식으로 조대수의 생애가 묘사되어 있다. 석각의 형식으로 조 대수의 생애를 담아낸 것은, 청나라 말기의 역사를 보여줄 뿐 아니라, 예술적인 측면에서도 매우 중요한 사료가 된다.

Located in Xingcheng, Liaoning, Zu Dashou Stone archway is a memorial archway of Merit and Virtue built in the fourth year of Chongzhen, Ming Dynasty. This research takes the image of Zu Dashou stone memorial archway's character story as the research object, and analyzes the content of stone carving by searching historical materials and comparing stone carving images. The horizontal part of Zu Dashou Stone memorial archway is carved with twelve figures. Every three of them become a unit and there are four units in total. The horizontal part on the first floor in the south carved the story of Zu Dashou being attacked by Inner Mongolian Army when he was hunting, and being punished and imprisoned. The horizontal part on the second floor in the south carved the story of Zu Dashou who fled to Juehua Island and was appointed by Sun Chengzong to build the Great Wall. The horizontal part on the first floor in the north carved with the meritorious military service of Zu Dashou in the battle of Ningjin Battle. The story of the visit of a North Korean envoy is carved on the second floor of the horizontal part in the north. On the west lintel architrave in the north, Zu Dashou borrowed the carp to jump over the Longmen Gate to express Yuan Chonghuan's kindness to him. Zu Dashou Stone memorial archway describes the important deeds of Zu Dashou's life by means of stone carving, and displays the relevant information of Zu Dashou's life deeds and the history of the late Ming Dynasty from the perspective of art.
