New anthology of Jeon Yak-Jeon(丁若銓, 1758-1816), originally renowned for his few prose works, was discovered. Jeong Yak-Jeon and Jeong Yak-Yong brothers exchanged poems and letters after the banishment to Heuksando and Gangjin. Newly introducing anthology, 『Yeoyudangjip(與猶堂集)』(卷首題) is a transcription of two brother’s writings from the period. Among the writings, ones written by Jeong Yak-Jeon was not introduced until this day besides 「Songjeongsaui(松政私議)」.
The forepart of 『Yeoyudangjip』, 「Yeoyudangjip」 consists of 9 letters [上仲兄書] written by Jeong Yak-Yong to Jeong Yak-Jeon. Included right afterwards, 「Japseol(雜說)」 is Jeong Yak-Jeon’s reponses of Jeong Yak-Yong’s reports of exile experiences in Gangjin and some of the writings are not contained in 『Yeoyudangjeonseo(與猶堂全書)』. The Second part, 「Yeoyudangsijip(與猶堂詩集)」 contains 22jae(題) and 37su(首) poems of Jeong Yak-Yong written in Gangjin to Jeong Yak-Jeon. ‘Eha Songwan(以下 巽舘, tentatively named, Jeong Yak-Jeon Anthology)’ contains 32jae(題) and 40su(首) poems of Jeong Yak-Jeon. All things taken together, the purpose held by the editor of 「Yeoyudangjip」, 「Yeoyudangsijip」 and ‘Eha Songwan(以下 巽舘, tentatively named, Jeong Yak-Jeon Anthology)’ seems to be in editing the writings of Jeong Yak-Yong from Gangjin and those of Jeong Yak-Jeon from Heuksando.
Jeong Yak-Jeon was different from Jeong Yak-Yong to drink and socialize with fisherman and woodsman. Jeong Yak-Yong described the residents as ‘barbaric islanders’, but in the other hand Jeong Yak-Jeon gladly became friends with fishermen and woodsmen. In Joseon Dynasty Annals, Heuksando is usually introduced as the place of exile. Exiled literati would mention about the nature of the island in which one is currently living, never to write a poem from the experience with fishermen and woodsmen. They isolated themselves from the islands, seeing themselves as temporary being in the place. However, Jeong Yak-Jeon became one with Heuksando to sublimate the place as a literary scene. If 『Heonsan-eo-bo』 is a ecology paper written together with fishermen, and 「Songjeongsa-ui(松政私議)」 is a political proposal for woodsman, the anthology of Jeong Yak-Jeon can be described as a autobiography of 16 years of exchanges.
