만투머르컨 은 퉁구스 샤머니즘의 특징이 잘 반영되어 있는 허저족의 대표 적 무속영웅서사시라 할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 만투머르컨 서사에 나오는 만투의 여행을 퉁구스족 샤머니즘 문화가 반영되어 있는 샤먼으로서의 마을재 건여행으로 바라봄으로써 그 해석의 지평을 확장하고자 하였다. 즉 만투의 서방 여행이 표면적으로는 부모를 찾아 그 원수를 갚는 것이었으나, 이면적으로는 주 변 신령들을 통제함으로서 대샤먼이 되어 부족을 재건하고자 하는 목적의 마을 재건여행이었음을 주장하고자 한 것이다. 바리데기 와 니샨샤먼 에서 질병 혹은 죽음이 영혼의 상실로 인해 생긴 것이기에 그 영혼을 찾아 저승여행을 떠 나고 있다면, 만투는 부족의 질병(폐허)이 부모의 부재로 인한 것이기에 마을재 건을 위해 부모를 찾아 떠난다. 선대 샤먼의 죽음으로 생긴 빈자리는 후대 샤먼 이 세워짐으로서 채워지는 것이다. 만투는 보조령으로 등장하는 여신령들의 도 움을 받아 남성 샤먼 신령들을 통제 하에 넣고 잔치를 벌이며 황폐화되었던 마 을을 재건하기에 이른다. 마을재건이 중시되는 허저족 구비서사시의 이와 같은 특징은 허저족을 포함한 퉁구스족의 씨족공동체 중시 문화와 연결될 수 있다.

“Mantu Mergen” is the archetypal Hezhe shamanistic heroic epic reflected in the features of Tungus Shamanism. A Mergen is both a shaman and the head of a clan. A mergen known as Mantu travels to the west in “Mantu Mergen.” I argue that the mergen Mantu traveled to the west outwardly to avenge his parents’ death, but his actually reason was to rebuild his devastated home village as a tribal shaman. In this Hezhe epic, various characteristics of Tungus shamanism are represented, such as an emphasis on clan identity and the role of a shaman in the village. Mantu was naturally in line to succeed his father as mergen after his parents were killed by the enemy. In Tungus, the death of the tribal shaman caused the desolation of the village. Therefore, Mantu traveled to the west to reorganize his village. He met many spirits, and mostly female spirits helped him while male spirits stood against him. He controlled the hostile spirits with the help of a spiritual assistant and finally returned home and rebuilt his village.
