다양하고 풍부한 내용과 의미를 지닌 『삼국연의』 속 아이들과 관련된 일화는 소설 속의 소설이라 할 수 있다. 본고에서는 소설 속에 나오는 아이들의 일화를 덕행, 언변, 문제 해결, 기타 등 네 가지로 분류하여, 난세에 아이들도 언변과 지혜를 다하고 때로 분발과 처세로 살 아나갔음을 살펴보았다. 소설가는 정사와 필기 등의 기록 가운데 일정한 선택과 배제의 기준 에서 취사선택하였다. 소설은 삼국의 대립과 통일이라는 줄거리에 집중하여 그와 관련된 인 물들의 일화를 수집하였지만, 한편으로 삼국시대에 새로 등장한 현학과 죽림칠현 등 문화적 현상은 될수록 배재하였다. 아이들의 일화는 소설적 기능도 일정 정도 수행하고 있었다. 유년 의 언행은 성년의 활동을 이해하는데 도움을 주며, 인물의 성격을 부여하는데 근본적인 특징 으로 제시되었다. 그 결과 독자는 인물을 다방면에서 볼 수 있어 인물에 대한 풍부한 형상을 제공받게 된다. 더불어 유년의 언행이나 사건은 이후 일어날 일의 암시와 복선으로 작용하기 도 하였다. 또 아이들의 일화는 소설의 주제와 의미를 심화시키는 효과를 발휘하기도 했다.
The Romace of Three Kingdoms (『三國演義』) describes struggle heros and construction of the country in the Three Kingdoms period. The novel used ‘children’ images very effectively which has various features, and was to help complete an effective and integrated narrative. This paper is classified into four episodes of the children: virtues, witty speaking, problem solving, and others. And investigates the fictional feature. Among these anecdotes novelist knows that a certain eclectic in terms of selection and exclusion. Although the plot of the novel is focused on the confrontation and unification of the Three Kingdoms collect anecdotes of people associated with them. Anecdote about children were also performed to some extent fictional feature. Character's Childhood help us to understand the activities of the adults, it was presented to the essential characteristics given to the nature of the person. As a result, readers are given can see the figures in various fields provide a rich geometry for the character. In addition to childhood events and character it was also acting as a double track and a hint of what will happen later. Anecdote of children has also demonstrated the effect of deepening the theme and meaning of the novel.
