본고는 선행연구를 토대로 변화하는 중국어의 위상을 검토해보고 그에 따라 한국의 중국 어 교육이 향후 어떤 점을 염두에 두어야 하는지를 고찰하는 데 목적이 있다. “언어의 종합 경쟁력(徐傑 2007)” 요건 중 인구경쟁력과 경제경쟁력 등을 고려할 때 중국어의 지위는 높아 질 것으로 예상되나 전 세계 화교의 분포와 화교의 출신지 분포 등을 고려하면, 강현석(2014) 의 논의와 같이, 그것이 영어를 대체하는 언어로 발전하기 보다는 아시아를 중심으로 한 지 역 매개어로서 발전할 가능성이 높다. 현재 한국은, 중국은 물론 싱가포르와 대만 및 인도네 시아, 태국 등 아시아의 주요 화교 밀집 분포 국가와도 상당한 규모의 교역 관계에 있다. 나 아가 이들 국가는 향후 세계 경제에 미칠 영향력이 지속적으로 커질 것으로 전망된다. 따라 서 한국에서의 중국어 교수·학습 필요성과 중요성은 향후에도 꾸준히 증대될 것으로 보인다. 이 같은 점에서 한국의 중국어 교육은 중국이란 단일 국가의 언어로서가 아닌 아시아라는 지 역의 매개 언어로서 중국어를 대해야 할 것이며 보통화를 단일 표준으로 여겨왔던 과거의 관 점에서 벗어나 각 지역 변종들이 갖는 특징의 총체적 개념으로서 대화어(大華語)의 수용을 진지하게 고민할 필요가 있다.

This study aims to examine the change of Chinese status and study what the Chinese education in Korea needs to consider for the future. In terms of the competitiveness of population and economy, it is thought that Chinese will rise in status and be one of the most important languages. However, it might not develop to a global language like English but a international language as lingua franca in Asia area in terms of the spread situation of the overseas Chinese population in the world. Currently, Korea is having a big trading relationship not only with China, Singapore but also with Indonesia, Thailand etc. where a considerable number of Chinese immigrants live now, and the relationship between Korea and them would continue or increase in the years to come. So the need of teaching and learning Chinese in Korea will arise increasingly and the importance of it will be required steady in Korea in the future. The Chinese education in Korea needs to consider Chinese not only as a official language of China, but also as a lingua franca in Asia area, and also needs to consider accepting the concept of Da-Hauyu to the educaion seriously.
