세바스찬 김(Sebastian Kim)은 한국교회의 특징을 다음과 같이 범주 화했다: ① 성경 기독교(초기~1940년대), ② 부흥 기독교(1950~60년 대), ③ 해방 기독교(1960~70년대), ④ 토착 기독교(1970~90년대), ⑤ 통일 기독교(1990년대~현재). 이런 유형론적 접근은 한국교회의 선교학적 과제를 시대별로 단편화시키면서 한국교회에게 부여된 선교적 총체성을 간과하는 경향을 보인다. 본고에서 필자는 교회의 선교적 삶을 총체적으로 정향화시키는 선교학을 메타선교학(meta-missiology)으로 명명하고 21 세기 한국교회가 직면한 선교적 총체성을 주제별로 고찰한다. 이를 위해 필자는 로버트 슈라이터(Robert Schreiter) 등이 포괄적 용어로 규정한 화해를 본 연구의 개념 틀로 활용하며, 그 결과 21세기 한국교회의 메타선교 학적 과제를 다음과 같이 제시한다: 1) 전도와 갱신에 진력하는 ‘영적 화해로서의 선교,’ 2) 한국적 상황화와 간(間)교회적 협력을 지향하는 ‘종교 문화적 화해로서의 선교,’ 3) 양극화 해소와 남북한 샬롬을 추구하는 ‘정치경 제적 화해로서의 선교.’ 이와 같은 메타선교학적 과제에 충실할 때, 21세기 한국교회는 자신에게 부여된 한반도에서의 선교적 사명을 총체적으로 구현 해 나갈 수 있다.
