본 논문의 목적은 철학적이고 기독교적 인간학의 입장에서 트랜스휴머니즘 안에서 논의되고 있는 사이보그를 통한 생명 연장의 문제에 대하여 분석하고 비판하는 것이다. 트랜스휴머니스트들이 추구하는 사이보그 기술을 통한 영원에 가까운 생명의 획득은 데카르트의 영육이원론과 인간 정신이해에 기초해 있으며, 자유 시장 경제의 논리에서 벗어나지 못한다. 이에 반해 기독교의 부활과 영생에 대한 가르침은 인간의 정신에 대한 깊은 이해를 담고 있으며, 정신과 몸에 대한 전인적인 이해를 담고 있다. 더욱이 기독교의 부활과 영생의 관념은 오랜 역사적 경험을 통하여 인간 욕망의 위험성에 대한 충분한 반성을 품고 있으며, 그 반성을 기초로 인간의 욕망을 극복한 새로운 미래의 가능성을 제시해 왔다. 이러한 점에서 기독교의 부활과 영생에 대한 사상은 사이보그 기술을 바탕으로 한 트랜스휴머니즘의 생명 연장에 도전을 받기보다는, 오히려 트랜스휴머니즘의 사이보그 기술을 통한 영생추구를 비판하고 인도하는 오래된 지혜로서 기능할 수 있을 것이다.

In this article, the issue of revolutionary life extension through cyborg technology within transhumanism is critically analyzed from the perspective of philosophical and Christian anthropology. The idea of the near-eternal life of transhumanists is based on the Cartesian mind-body dualism, and it cannot escape the influence of free-market Capitalism. In contrast, the reflections on resurrection and eternal life in Christianity are arguably bearing a deep understanding of the human mind and holding a holistic view of the mind-body problem. Furthermore, through the lessons of its history, Christian thinkers came to realize the danger of the evil proclivity of human beings and to suggest a new possibility of future beyond human desire. In this sense, the Christian idea of eternal life can be useful guidance for the transhumanist’s pursuit of near-eternal life.
