        Recently IMO and IALA have developed the strategy of e-Navigation and the concepts of VTM to enhance the safety, efficiency and security of vessel traffic and protection of the marine environment. And current technical and functional trends require vessel traffic management systems to be improved so as to control vessel traffic not only in waters of harbour area, but also within EEZ waters. Under the consideration of these circumstances, a three-layered vessel traffic management system was proposed in this paper. The proposed system consists of three sub-systems, called Local VTS, Regional VTS and National VTS, and those sub-systems are designed respectively to be suitable for managing vessel traffic within their own jurisdiction waters.

        Reductions in the ozone column have led to substantial increase in UV-B radiation at the Earth's surface with the amount and intensity dependent on atmospheric and geographic factors. Our objectives were to understand the effect of UV-B radiation on photosynthesis and carbohydrate synthesis of soybean, and to establish an indicator to select resistant soybean cultivar against UV-B radiation. Soybean seeds (cv. Daepungkong) were sown and grown for 4 weeks in an environmentally controlled chamber. UV-B radiation was delivered to plants for four hours, each day, from 10:00 to 14:00 h by five fluorescent UV lamps. A distance of 1 m from lamps to the top of plants was always maintained throughout the experiment. The biologically effective UV-B radiation level was 21.6 kJ m-2 d-1 using the generalized plant responses action spectrum normalized at 300 nm. The damage of soybean leaves was optically observed at the second day of UV-B radiation, and leaf veins were first injured. Photosynthetic rate was reduced after 2 days of UV-B radiation, and, at 5 days, it was a half level (6.3 μmol m-2 s-1) compared with control (12.1 μmol m-2 s-1). UV-B radiation led to the reduction of stomatal conductance around 5 days of treatment. The decrease in stomatal conductance means the reduction of leaf transpiration and the influx of carbon dioxide. Also, the reduction of photosynthetic rate caused an accumulation of the intercellular carbon dioxide. It is suggested that photosynthetic characteristics can be used an indicator to select UV-B-resistant soybean cultivar.

        A new deep red colored standard rose (Rosa hybrida Hort.) cultivar, `Best Red' was developed at the Jeollanamdo Agricultural Research and Extention Services (JARES). Seedling and line selection were conducted in 2003 and its characteristics were examined three times from 2004 to 2006. 'Best Red' which was obtained by cross between 'Vital' and 'Cardinal'. It shows a red group color (RHS No. 46C), medium fragrance, and standard flower with good harmony between ray floret and flower center. The upper stem is moderate curved. The average yield during 2004-2006 was 111 stems/m2. Its vase life was 10 days. This cultivar was registered as a commercial cultivar in 2007. It is suitable for greenhouses in all regions in Korea and will be released to farmers in 2009.

Seedling and line selection were conducted in 2003 and its characteristics were examined three times from 2004 to 2006. 'Fine Pink' was obtained by crosse between 'Nobless' and 'Yvessaaintlaurent'. It shows a red group color (RHS No. 56C), very weak fragrance, and standard flower with good harmony between ray floret and flower center. It has a characteristic of straight stem. The average yield during 2004-2006 was 113 stems/m2. It has 10 days vase life and resistance to powdery mildew. This cultivar was registered as a commercial cultivar in 2007. It is suitable for greenhouse in all regions in Korea and will be released to farmers in 2009.

        A new dark pink colored standard rose (Rosa hybrida Hort.) cultivar, 'Global Pink' was developed by the cross between 'Nobless' and `Belami' at the Jeollanamdo Agricultural Research and Extention Services (JARES) through seedling and line selection in 2003 and characteristic evaluations during 2004~2006. 'Global Pink' showed Red purple group color (RHS No. 65B), very weak fragrance, and standard flower with good harmony between ray florlet and flower center. Its yield was 134 stems/m2 averaged over three years (2004-2007). It showed 10 days vase life and was resistant to powdery mildew. This cultivar was registered as a commercial cultivar in 2007. It can be cultured in greenhouses in Korea and will be released to the farmers in 2009.

        A new Cymbidium hybrid “Bright Evening” was released by National Horticultural Research Institute (NHRI) in 2003. A cross was made in 1995 between Cymbidium “Tropical Yellow”, a brownish yellow colored petal and medium plant sized variety, and “Lucky Rainbow Rapin Hot”, a light purple-pink petal with red lip and medium sized variety. A cross was made in 1995 between Cymbidium “Tropical Yellow”, a brownish yellow colored petal and medium plant sized variety, and “Lucky Rainbow Lapin Hot”, a light purple-pink petal with red lip and medium sized variety. The eighty seven progenies were obtained after planting and acclimatization in green house. In 1999, a line (9529125) was selected and multiplicated for its flower color, leaf shape, flower stalk, and vigorous growing habit. After evaluation trial for two growing seasons, the selected line was named as “Bright Evening”. The “Bright Evening” has yellow petals and is a medium sized (average leaf length is about 62 cm and width of flower is about 6 cm) Cymbidium variety with vigorous growth and erect flower stalks. Blooming is started from November to February in optimal culture condition. High temperature (more than 30℃) and low light intensity should be avoided for the appropriate growth. In addition, flower stalks develop easily even from underdeveloped pseudobulbs.

        This paper proposes a method for generating radar images used in a ship handling simulator, which includes mathematical logics based on radar equations and information from Openflight format files. In order to make radar image much similar to that of real radar in PPI type, the proposed mathematical logic derives radar video signals under the consideration of not only the data form flight format file of simulation scenes, but also geographical radar's position. The proposed method is considered useful to make radar images in ship handling simulator with accuracy and reality.

        This study was conducted to examine the physiological and biochemical responses against UV-B radiation in the seedling of 15 different rice cultivars, having the different physiological sensitivities. Out of 15 rice cultivars tested, moderate and susceptible groups showed significant decreases in biomass and RGR (relative growth rate). Contents of total chlorophyll were reduced remarkedly by irradiation of UV-B. In all rice cultivars tested, the content of chlorophyll a was strongly decreased, while the contents of chlorophyll b were slightly reduced without showing clear different among three groups and 15 cultivars. Carotenoid content was largely reduced by UV-B radiation, whereas polyamine content was moderately increased. The contents of MDA (malondialdehyde) that reflect the level of lipid peroxidation of cell membranes were clearly increased by UV-B stress, showing higher content in susceptible cultivars than moderate and torelant cultivars. The physiological important parameters highly related to visible injury were leaf color, chlorophyll, carotenoid, and lipid peroxidation, whereas biomass and polyamines were not closely correlated. Based on this results, it was concluded that changes of visible injury and the contents of chlorophyll and MDA could be adequately applied and utilized as physiological indicators to UV-B radiation

        This study was conducted to assess the allelopathic potentiality of Korea traditional seventy-nine rice (Oryza sativa L.) cultivars on barnyardgrass (Echinochloa crus-galli P. Beauv. var. oryzicola Ohwi) and to identify possible allelopathic compounds from selected rice cultivars, such as Seogandodobyeo, Huadobyeo and Heugbalbyeo. In the straw mixture, Seogandodobyeo showed the greatest inhibition (67.07%) on total emergence percentage. The greatest inhibition on total seedling length and dry weight of barnyardgrass occurred in Huadobyeo (58.32 %) and Heugbalbyeo (81.20%), respectively. An HPLC analysis with nine standard compounds showed that the concentrations and compositions of allelopathic compound depend upon the cultivars. Four compounds including Ο-coumaric acid in Seogandodobyeo extracts, four compounds including p-coumaric acid in Huadobyeo extracts, and seven compounds including Ο-coumaric acid in Heugbalbyeo were detected, respectively. Ο-coumaric acid (0.97 mg/g) in Seogandodobyeo, p-coumaric acid (0.92mg/g) in Huadobyeo and Ο-coumaric acid (1.02 mg/g) in Heugbalbyeo was detected as the highest amounts, respectively. The preliminary identification by HPLC analysis resulted in peaks with retention times close to those of standards which were confirmed with EI/MS. The mass spectra of p-coumaric, and Ο-coumaric acids showed molecular ions (m/z) at 164 and 164, and their base peaks (m/z) at 164 and 118, respectively.

        1. Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis를 이용하여 국내외 재래종과 야생종 대두 계통들의 trypsin inhibitor의 변이를 규명하기 위하여 본 시험이 시도되었으며 1706계통의 한국산 재래종과 103계통의 한국 야생종콩, 그리고 167계통의 외래 재배종과 71계통의 외국 야생종 대두가 공시되었다. 2. Trypsin inhibitor를 함유하지 않은 ti/ti형과 Ti c/c형은 한국 재래종에서만 발견되었으며, Ti* c형을 Hymowitz도 일본 대두품종에서 보고한 바 있으나 그도 이 계통은 한국 도래종일 가능성이 크다고 보고 한 바 있다. 3. 한국기원의 콩에서 trypsin inhibitor에 관한 이형접합형의 출현빈도가 외국 기원 콩 계통에서 보다 비교적 높았으며, 재래종에서 3.6%(N=61)와 야생종에서 9.7%(N=10)이었으며 종합적으로 보아 중국, 일본 등의 대두에 비해 한국 기원의 콩이 가장 큰 변이를 나타내고 있음을 확인하였다.
