The genus Tetramoera Diakonoff (Tortricidae: Olethreutinae) is small group, including 6 species worldwide (Brown, 2005). Among them, 4 species, T. flavescens Kuznetsov, T. isogramma Meyrick, T. paragramma Meyrick, and T. schistaceana Snellen, have been described from the Oriental region in the early 20th century. And the other two species, T. gracilistira Turner, and T. leptalea Diakonoff were reported from Australia and South Africa respectively. During the course of the study on North Korean Tortiricidae based on the material deposited in the Hungarian Natural History Museum, Budapest, Hungary, one species of the genus Tetramoera Diakonoff was found. In the present study, the genus Tetramoera Diakonoff, is reported for the first time from the Korean Peninsula. Also a new species, Tetramoera bongwaensis sp. nov., is described as new to science. Photographs of the adults and male genitalia are presented.

The genus pammene Hübner, [1825] is one of the genera related to Grapholita Treitschke, 1829, belonging to the tribe Grapholitini of the subfamily Olethreutinae (Bae & Park, 1998). The genus is mostly distributed in the Holarctic region, with about 100 species in the world. Danilevsky & Kuznetzov (1968) divided the genus into the two subgenera, Pammene and Eucelis. Komai (1999) discussed the phylogenetic position within the tribe. Since Park (1983) reported one species of the genus for the first time from Korea, they are mainly studied by Byun & Park (1993), Byun et al. (1998) and Bae & Park (1998). Up to date nine species have been reported from the Korea by Bae and park (1998). In this study, Pammene gallicolana Lienig & Zeller, 1846 is report for the first time from Korea. This species resembles with Pammene ignorata superficially, but P. gallicolana is easily distinguished from the latter by following characters: dorsal patch much larger, basal cavity much bigger, and apophysis posterior longer than P. ignorata, respectively. Morphological characters of this species are redescribed with illustrations of genitalia.

(E,E)-8,10-dodecadienyl acetate (E8E10-12:Ac) and (E)-8-dodecaenyl acetate (E8-12:Ac) have been selected as the candidate chemicals for sex pheromone components of the M. phaseoli, female through GC-EAD tests, whereas the two compounds and an additional candidate, (E,Z)-7,9-dodecadienyl acetate (E7Z9-12:Ac), have been found at a ratio of 7:1:1 in the abdominal tip extract (Yum et al., 2008). In order to determine the actual composition of sex pheromone, therefore, several blends using the three chemicals were evaluated for attractiveness to males of M. phaseoli around red bean and soybean fields. Individual components as well as two blends consisted of E8E10-12:Ac/E7Z9-12:Ac and E8-12:Ac/E7Z9-12:Ac did not show attractiveness, whereas the blend of E8E10-12:Ac/E8-12:Ac showed an increased effect in male capture. Of the tested blends with all three chemicals, the 7:1:2 composition of E8E10-12:Ac, E8-12:Ac and E7Z9-12:Ac attracted the most number of males. The results suggested that E7Z9-12:Ac is one of the sex pheromone components and may act as a synergist.

The genus Cydia Hübner is distributed in all the continents, with the tropical regions. However, It's rather insufficiently studied. In palaearctic, there are about 100 known species, less than half of this amount is Nearctic region; 49 species are recorded from Europe. The repartition areas of some species are wide, of some other small, however, they extend during the studies. The genus Laspeyresia Hübner, 1825, which was often used instead of Cydia until the late 1970s is help to be a junior homonym of Laspeyresia R.L,. 1817, an emendation of Laspeyria Germar, 1810 (Noctuidae). Comprehensive reviews of Cydia have been given by Heinrich (1926), Obraztsov (1959), Danilevsky and Kuznetzov (1968), and Razowski (1989). Komai (1999) discussed the phylogenetic position within the tribe (Horak, 2006). In the present study, the Korean species of genus Cydia are reviewed. A total of 10 species are recogniged. Of them, Cydia danilevskyi (Kuznetzov, 1973) and Cydia indivisa (Dailevsky, 1963) are reported for the first time from Korea. Morphological characters of this genus are redescribed with illustrations of adults, wing venation, male and female genitalia. Distribution map, data matrix, cladistic analysis are provided.

A new species of Adoxophyes is described, illustrated, and distinguished from closely resembling species. Larvae of this species were discovered on sweet cherry (Prunus avium) imported from China and intercepted under plant quarantine inspection at Korean sea- and airport. They were reared to adult in the laboratory for identification. We provide a full description of the new species based on adult of female external structures. In addition, we conducted a comparative study of three related species (A. orana, A. honmai, and A. new species) and provided a key to distinguish them. To confirm the identity of new species, we compared barcoding sequences (~472 bp) of the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) gene from 11 specimens of three Adoxophyes species. As a result of this study, we confirmed the identity of Adoxophyes new species. We also provided pairwise p-distances among the species and their neighbor-joining tree.

The first list of the family Tortricidae from North Korea was provided by Zhu(1969), including 16 species of the subfamily Olethreutinae. There had been no research on this group, until the report of Park and Byun (1991) with 9 additional species. And Jaros et al.(1992) reported 17 previously unrecorded species, including 4 of Eucosmini. Byun et al. (1998) made a illustrated catalogue of Korean Tortricidae containing 350 species. In 1999, Razowski provided a list of 358 tortricid species in the Korean Peninsula, including 87 species of the subfamily Olethreutinae from North Korea. Among them 29 species of the tribe Eucosmini were included as them to be distributed in North Korea. In this study, we report eight previously unrecorded species of the tribe Eucosmini from North Korea, based on the examination of the material deposited in the Hungarian Natural History Museum. The species, which are known for the first time from North Korea in this study, are as follows. 1. Ancylis melanostigma Kuznetsov 2. Ancylis sativa Liu 3. Eucoenogenes japonica Kawabe 4. Eucosma glebana (Snellen) 5. Notocelia rosaecolana (Doubleday) 6. Rhopobota ustomaculana (Curtis) 7. Spilonota ocellana (Denis et Schiffermüller) 8. Zeiraphera lariciana Kawabe

This study was carried out to identify the sex pheromone of the soybean podworm, Matsumuraeses phaseoli. EAG response of M. phaseoli male antenna to various chemical compounds were examined. Of them, (E,E)-8,10-dodecadienyl acetate (E8E10-12:Ac) and (E)-8-dodecenyl acetate (E8-12:Ac) were most EAG-active. The abdominal tips of M. phaseoli females were extracted with distilled hexane 4h after light-off for 30 min. In an electroantennographic detection (GC-EAD), female extracts showed two EAG-active components. In a GC-MS analysis, three components (E8E10-12:Ac, E8-12:Ac, and (E,Z)-7,9-dodecadienyl acetate) were identical with those of authentic standards following the retention time and their ratio was 7: 1: 1. Of these three components, EAG responses of M. phaseoli males to E8E10-12:Ac and E8-12:Ac were significantly dose-dependent. Field effectiveness of these components remains to be evaluated.

The tortricid moths genus Cydia Hübner includes many species of economic importance due to the damage they inflict on agricultural crops, especially fruit and nut trees. Some Cydia species are an important food source for other animals, and some have been used as agents of biological control. Cydia species are generally small dull brown moths with yellow or white wormlike larvae. This group was defined by the combination of the following characters: Apical segment porrect; forewing apex rounded; M2 and M3 sub-parallel; hindwing M3 separate CuA1; uncus absent; socius rounded; corpus bursae with two segnum, like hook-shape; ductus bursae sclerotized. In this study, the Korean species of genus Cydia are reviewed. A total of 10 species are recognized. Among them, two species are newly recorded from Korea for the first time. Adults and genitalia of both sexes are illustrated. Distribution map, data matrix, cladistic analysis are provided. Also illustration of adults, venations, male and female genitalia are provided.

Taxonomic studies of Taiwan moths have been done by only a few Taiwanese and foreign entomologists. The earliest significant collections and studies of Taiwan Lepidoptera began in 1856 with the arrival of Robert Swinhoe (1836-1877) as British Consul in Taiwan. The Japanese Occupation (Sino-Japanese War of 1895-1945) enabled studies by mainly Japanese scientists, and post- 1945 many Japanese and some others scientists visited Taiwan to study and collect moths and butterflies. In 1992, Heppner and Inoue (eds.) reported over 3,900 species in the checklist of "Lepidoptera of Taiwan" for the first time, based on the materials from 62 collecting sites and previous records. Recently, the Lepidoptera series of guide books to Insects in Taiwan was published by Mr. H.Y. Wang. Also the 2nd author has a publication plan of a total of 10 volumes in the series of "Lepidoptera of Taiwan", and a color introduction due out this year. In this study, we identified over 3,000 specimens of the subfamily Olethreutinae belonging to the family Tortricidae, collected at 62 sites in Taiwan from 1982 to 2006 by the 2nd author and some of collection’s of Y.S. Bae and K. T. Park in 1996-1999. We recognize the results of identification that more than 280 Taiwan tortricids, including over 35 newly recorded or new species, are in the Taiwan fauna.

Two lepidopteran species, Matsumuraeses phaseoli (Matsumura) and Maruca vitrata (syn. M. testulalis) (Fabricius) were reared on artificial diets, and analyzed in their developmental characteristics. Photoperiod was supplied with 16L/8D for M. phaseoli and with 13L/11D for M. vitrata, respectively. Both species passed five larval instars with discrete sizes of head capsule width. In a constant environment (25℃ and 65%RH), the developmental period of M. phaseoli egg, larva and pupa was 3.9, ca. 16.0 and 8.9 days, respectively, and over 80% of M. phaseoli larvae could develop into pupae, most of which emerged into adults. Newly laid eggs could be stored at 5℃ for 15 days with over 50% hatchability. Similar developmental traits were shown in M. vitrata. However, a low temperature preservation was not applicable to M vitrata eggs.
