        이 연구는 마음챙김을 기반으로 한 명상 프로그램을 말기 암 환자에게 실시하여 마음챙김의 주의 자각이 환자들의 죽음에 대한 불안감 감소에 미치는 효과를 검증하고자 하였다. 연구방법은 단일집단 사전-사후검사 설계를 바탕으로, 부산 소재 D병원에서 항암과 방사선 치료를 받고 있는 말기 암 환자들에게 마음챙김 명상 프로그램을 주 1회 1시간 30분씩 5 회기를 실시하였으며, 효과성에 대한 검증을 살펴보기 위해 비모수 검정 인 Wilcoxon Signed-Test로 분석하였다. 연구의 결과 마음챙김 명상 프로그램이 연구 참여자들의 주의 자각을 향상시킴으로써 참여자들의 죽 음에 대한 불안감을 감소시키는데 효과가 있음이 입증되었다. 결론 및 제언으로 마음챙김 명상 훈련을 통해 말기 암 환자들의 죽음에 대한 불 안감을 감소시킬 수 있다는 본 연구의 결과를 바탕으로 말기 암 환자들 의 불안감 감소가 지속적으로 유지될 수 있는 시스템의 구축과 꾸준히 마음챙김 명상 프로그램을 활용한 연구가 진행되기를 제언하였다.

        Purpose: Even today, cancer remains a challenge to overcome. The purpose of this study is to understand the current status of lip-oral-pharyngeal cancer in Koreans by identifying the survival rate of lip-oral-pharyngeal cancer in Koreans through long-term big data. Material and Method: This study utilized 2023 KOSIS (Cancer Registration Statistics, Ministry of Health and Welfare) academically. The 5-year relative survival rates of lip-oral-pharyngeal cancer from 1996 to 2020 were compared and analyzed at 5-year intervals. Results: The 5-year relative survival rate for lip-oral-pharyngeal cancer was 47.4% from 1996 to 2000, 54.5% from 2001 to 2005, 61.1% from 2006 to 2010, 65.5% from 2011 to 2015, and 69.7% from 2016 to 2020. From 1996 to 2005, the 5-year relative survival rate for lip-oral-pharyngeal cancer was higher than the 5-year relative survival rate for all cancers. However, in the recent 15 years from 2006 to 2020, the 5-year relative survival rate for lip-oral-pharyngeal cancer was lower than for all cancers. Conclusions: In conclusion, this long-term big data showed that the 5-year relative survival rate of lip-oral-pharyngeal cancer in Koreans has increased further in modern times. However, in order to increase the overall survival rate of all human cancers, continuous efforts to improve the survival rate of lip-oral-pharyngeal cancer are needed in the future.

        This study was conducted to evaluate in vitro antioxidant activity of goat meat hot water extracts and the changes in apoptosis-related protein expression levels in the cancer cells treated with these extracts. Goat meat hot water extracts were prepared using different cuts of goat meat, including foreleg, hindleg, loin, and rib. Among these extracts, the foreleg and hindleg extracts displayed higher (P<0.05) ABTS radical scavenging activity than the other two extracts. Protein expression levels of BAX, p53, and p21 were not different in the cells treated with the extracts from different cuts, regardless of the cell type. Only p53 expression in HT-29 cells was elevated (P<0.05) after loin extract treatment. These results suggest that antioxidant activity and apoptosis-related effects of goat meat hot water extract varied with cut of meat under in vitro conditions. Because all data was obtained from the in vitro experiment, the ability to generalize conclusions is limited. Additional in vivo studies are necessary.

        Patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) generally have an elevated expression of homeobox C6 (HOXC6) gene. We found that HOXC6 was the significantly upregulated gene in hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (FaDu) cells using RNA-seq analysis. However, it remains unclear whether HOXC6 plays a role in tumor process mechanism. Our study aimed to explore the potential oncogenic role and the detailed molecular mechanism of HOXC6 in FaDu cells. In this study, Sirt1 was validated to be overexpressed in FaDu cells and associated with HOXC6 expression. Overexpression of HOXC6 promoted the cell colony formation, whereas inhibition of Sirt1 by Sirt1 inhibitor EX527 reduced cell proliferation/colony formation and migration, and induced apoptosis in HOXC6 overexpressed FaDu cells. Interestingly, mechanistic study showed that EX527 mediated Sirt1 suppression led to decreased HOXC6 expression and upregulation of Sirt1 significantly increased the expression of HOXC6. HOXC6 was shown to cooperate with Sirt1 to enhance cell survival. We propose that HOXC6 promotes cell growth/colony formation, and that the HOXC6 may be a progression of hypopharyngeal carcinoma by activating Sirt1 pathways.

        Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is the most common type of head and neck cancer and is associated with high recurrence, poor treatment, and low survival rates. Hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) is a transcription factor that regulates the response to hypoxia, a major factor in the tumor microenvironment that affects tumor development and progression in various cancer types. However, microRNA (miRNA) sequence analysis revealed that only a few miRNAs targeting HIF-1α had been discovered. In the present study, we investigated HIF-1α expression in OSCC and the effect of HIF-1α-targeting miRNAs on the progression and metastatic potential of OSCC. We analyzed public databases to explore which miRNAs target HIF-1α expression. In addition, the expression of proteins involved in the cell cycle, proliferation, and apoptosis in HSC-2 cells was analyzed after miRNA-126 mimic treatment. Furthermore, to investigate the effect of miRNA-126 on the proliferation and invasion ability of OSCC cells, 5-ethynyl-2′-deoxyuridine and Transwell assays were performed. The activities of MMP-2 and MMP-9 were evaluated via gelatin zymography. Our results showed that miRNA-126, which targets HIF-1α, enhances OSCC cell proliferation by regulating the cell cycle and reinforces the cell mobility of OSCC via HIF-1α expression. These findings suggest that miRNA-126 may be a novel marker for OSCC treatment and the development of new tools for patients with OSCC.

        미역(Undaria pinnatifida) 포자를 사용한 생태독성 시험법은 연중 상시 이용하기에 어렵다. 미역 의 암배우체는 실험실에서 배양할 수 있기 때문에, 포자의 단점을 보완하고 상시 생태독성 시 험에 사용할 수 있다. 따라서 미역의 암배우체를 생태독성 시험에 활용하기 위해 다양한 환경 조건에 노출된 미역의 암배우체 생존율과 상대성장률의 변화를 분석하였다. 미역 암배우체는 염분(5~40 psu), 온도(5~30℃), pH (2~10), 광량(0~120 μmol photon m-2 s-1)에 노출되었다. 암배 우체의 생존율은 최고 평균값을 기준으로 온도 20℃, 염분 27.5 psu, pH 8, 광량 30 μmol photon m-2 s-1에서 가장 높았다. 상대성장률은 최고 평균값을 기준으로 온도 15℃, 염문 35 psu, pH 9, 광량 60 μmol photon m-2 s-1에서 가장 높았다. 본 연구결과를 통해 미역 암배우체의 생존율과 상대성장률을 활용하여 연안환경을 상시 신속하게 평가하기 위한 효율적인 방법으로 활용이 기대된다.

        담낭암은 드물지만 치명적인 악성 종양으로 초기에는 증상이 없어 대부분의 담낭암이 늦게 진단되고, 급속하게 인접 장기로 전이되기 때문에 예후가 불량하다. 따라서 담낭암을 조기에 발견하는 경우는 드물고, 담낭담석이나 용종으로 수술적 절제를 시행한 후 우연히 발견되는 때가 대부분이다. 저자들은 급성 무결석 담낭염 환자에서 초음파 내시경을 통해 비교적 조기에 담낭관암을 발견하여 성공적으로 치료할 수 있었던 증례를 경험하였다. 이에 문헌고찰과 함께 보고한다.

        Purpose: The purpose of this study is to determine how the incidence of oral cancer has changed over the past few years. Material and Method: In this study, the number of total cancers and lip-oral-pharyngeal cancers by year was compared using public big data from the National Cancer Center. The incidence rate of lip-oral cavity-pharyngeal cancer from 2000 to 2015 was analyzed. Results: In 2000, there were 101,772 cases of all cancers in all men and women. In 2015, there were 202,266 cancer cases in both men and women. In 2000, there were 2,183 cases of lip-oral-pharyngeal cancers for both men and women. In 2015, lip-oral-pharyngeal cancer were 3337 in both men and women. Conclusions: It is possible that oral cancer also increased along with the increase in total cancer, and it is thought that we should focus on preventing cancer in the future.

        Spirodelae Herba (SH) and Perilla Frutescens (PF) extracts have been widely used in clinical practice with various disorders for thousands of years. There are some reports regarding the anticancer effects of SH and PF each by each, but their mixture have not been investigated and their mechanisms also have not been clear. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the anticancer mechanisms and their effects of the mixture of SH and PF extracts on head and neck cancer cell line. Head and neck carcinoma KB cells were treated with SH, PF and their mixture. Anticancer effects were investigated by searching cancer cell death pathway; apoptosis and autophagy, which have been regarded to be effective and safe methods. Apoptosis, which is termed a programmed cell death, was observed by TUNNEL assay. Autophagy, which is termed a type II programmed cell death, was observed by acridine orange red staining. Additionally, the protein expressions associated with apoptosis and autophagy were detected for their mechanism by western blots. The mixture of SH and PF extracts induced autophagic and apoptotic cell death simultaneously in cancer cells. And 0.4 mg/ml of the mixture with SH and PF extracts down-regulated the expression of mTOR, however, the expressions of ATG5 and LC3-II, which induced autophagy, up-regulated. The mixture of SH and PF extracts also down-regulated the expressions of Bcl-2, but up-regulate the expressions of PARP-1 cleavage, Caspase-9 cleavage, Caspase-3 cleavage and BAX, which induced apoptosis. Taken together, these results suggested that the mixture of SH and PF extracts induce autophagic and apoptotic cell death simultaneously in head and neck cancer cells and it could be used as an alternative for anti-cancer drugs.

        The study was conducted to identify the anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer effects in sprouts of mouse-eyed bean (Rhynchosia nulubilis), ginseng (Panax ginseng), perilla (Perilla frutescens), broccoli (Brassica oleracea var. italica), and lettuce (Lactuca sativa) grown with organic germanium concentrate. Western blot analysis was performed to assess the antiinflammatory activity of the extract. All extracts exhibited noticeable anti-oxidant activity, indicating a significant correlation between the germanium content and anti-oxidant activity (p<0.05). In particular, rat-eyed bean sprouts with the highest germanium content showed significant anti-inflammatory activity (p<0.05) by significantly inhibiting the expression of the inflammatory complexes, NLRP3, cytokines IL-1β and caspase-1. Ginseng and broccoli sprouts showed strong anti-cancer properties and had high anti-oxidant effects (p<0.001). Germanium-concentrated water allows the mass production of agricultural products containing high concentrations of organic germanium. Agricultural produce grown with germanium concentrate add organic germanium to various physiological active ingredients, increasing the anti-oxidant and anti-cancer effects. These results strongly suggest that agricultural products containing high germanium concentrations can be used as novel health supplements to improve health.

        Autophagy is a cell survival mechanism that works for the survival of cells under various physiological and pathological conditions. ATG5 is a key protein in the process of autophagy propagation and is involved in tumor development and progression. Chemotherapeutic agents targeting ATG5 enhance the host's immune response in various human cancers and intensify the effectiveness of chemotherapy. However, the physiological role of ATG5 protein in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) has not been fully recognized. The purpose of this study was to examine the correlation between clinico-pathological factors of OSCC patients and ATG5 immunoexpression through immunohistochemistry (IHC) in the tissues of OSCC patients treated at our hospital, and to analyze the regarding influences and their mechanisms. The authors analyzed 20 OSCC patients from National University Dental Hospital, at Pusan National University from January 2002 to December 2007, which were eligible for the study. Data were obtained by reviewing the medical records of the OSCC patients, and ATG5 immunoexpression was obtained using IHC staining in the tissue samples of the OSCC patients. In the tissue sample of OSCC patients, the immunoexpression of ATG5 elevated, in comparison to the normal oral mucosa, and there was a significant correlation with Drinking, Pathological Stage. In regards to Cox regression analysis, Clinical stage, Tumor size, Histopathologic grade, Cervical nodal metastasis, Loco-regional recurrence, and ATG5 expression have statistically significant correlations. These results imply that the changes in the expression of ATG5 proteins in OSCC can be a prominent factor in the OSCC progression and the prognosis of OSCC patients.

        Purpose: The aims of the study were to explore caregiving burden and quality of life (QOL) and to identify factors affecting QOL of family members of terminal cancer patients from hospice palliative care center. Methods: Survey was performed using structured questionnaires measuring caregiving burden and QOL. To collect data, family members from 6 hospice palliative care facilities were recruited from July to September 2018. During that period, survey questionnaires were distributed and collected and total 140 study respondents participated in the survey. Collected data were analyzed using SPSS WIN 23.0 and descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, correlation coefficient, stepwise multiple regression analysis were performed as appropriate. Results: Caregiving burden and QOL score were 2.83 and 3.23 out of 5 point respectively. Factors affecting QOL were emotional burden (β = -0.35, p <.001), perceived health status (β = 0.23, p <.001), family support (β = 0.23, p <.001), age (β = -0.19, p <.003), economic burden (β = -0.16, p <.020), education (β=0.13 p<.033). Conclusion: Study results suggest that the lower caregiving burden, the higher QOL level of family members of terminal cancer patients. Since QOL of family members was affected by various factors, efforts to promote QOL through alleviating caregiving burden are required.

        Doenjang is a major fermented soy-based food in Korea. Recent investigations have shown that fermented soybean foods have immunity-enhancing, anti-cancer, anti-obesity and anti-diabetic effects. Several studies also have reported that genistein and daidzein, which are easily absorbed in the body are produced in larger quantities in aged doenjang. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the variations in the anti-cancer effects of commercialized doenjang as it ages. Four groups were formed for this study according to aging periods of doenjang, namely short (under 5 years, S group), mid (under 10 years, M group), long (under 15 years, L group) and very long (over 15 years, E group). The anti-cancer effects of doenjang were determined by cell cytotoxicity assays in A549, YAC-1, and HepG2 cancer cell lines. Also, NK cell activity and splenocyte proliferation were assayed for cancer immunotherapy. The quantities of phenolic compounds in doenjang at different ages were also measured. The results showed that the anti-cancer effects increased in the S and M groups for all three cancer cell lines. Interestingly, similar to this result, splenocyte proliferation and NK activity were also the highest in the S and M groups. In contrast, the E group showed significantly reduced splenocyte proliferation. The quantity of phenolic compounds was similar to that of the anti-cancer results. Collectively, these results suggest that the fermentation period of doenjang plays a very important role in determining its anti-cancer effects.

        Background: The Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy (FACIT) for Dyspnea was developed to assess multidimensional dyspnea using two subscales (experience of dyspnea and functional limitation) and a total score. Objects: This study aimed to assess the reliability and validity of the Korean version of the FACIT-dyspnea 10-item short form questionnaire (FACIT-dyspnea-K). Methods: Subjects were 163 patients with cancer. Dyspnea-related scales (modified Medical Research Council scale [mMRC], European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire-Core 30 [EORTC QLQ-C30], Hospital Anxiety and Depression [HAD], and WHO Performance Scale) were used to validate the FACIT-dyspnea-K. Results: Internal consistency was confirmed by Cronbach’s alpha values of 0.90 and 0.95 in factors 1 and 2, respectively. Convergence validity was determined by comparing the two factors and total score of the FACIT-dyspnea-K with conceptually related assessment tools measuring the physical and emotional effects of dyspnea, with which correlations ranged from 0.364 to 0.567. Criterion validity was established by significant differences in the FACITdyspnea- K score between groups when the patients were classified by performance status as assessed by the WHO performance scale. Furthermore, the FACIT-dyspnea-K showed notable correlations with other dyspnea scales (mMRC, EORTC QLQ-C30, and HAD) for cancer patients (r = 0.28 to 0.54). The test-retest reliability of the two factors and total score of the FACITdyspnea- K appeared to be excellent (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.96 to 0.97). Conclusion: This study supports FACIT-dyspnea-K as a valid and reliable instrument to assess the dyspnea experience of cancer patients in clinical settings.

        목적 : 유방암 환자의 자기효능감과 사회적 지지 및 지역사회참여 정도를 알아보고 작업치료중재 프로그램 개발의 기초선을 제공하고자 한다. 연구방법 : 본 연구는 H군에 위치한 병원에 외래로 방문하는 유방암 환자 40명을 대상으로 자가보고형 설문지를 배부하였고, 유방암 환자의 자가관리에 대한 자기효능감(Self-Efficacy Scale for Self-Management of Breast Cancer; SESSM-B), 사회적 지지(Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support; MSPSS) 그리고 한국판 지역사회 참여 지표(Korean-Community Participation Indicator; K-CPI)를 측정하였다. 결과 : 자기효능감은 3.70±.38점, 사회적 지지는 3.49±.66점이었다. 지역사회 참여 정도는 주관적 특성 을 반영한 참여권 문항은 3.27±.65점이었다. 객관적 특성을 반영한 20개 활동들에 대하여 참여 빈도와 중요성을 알아본 결과 가장 중요하게 생각하는 활동은 가족과 시간을 보내기, 요리나 집안일을 하기 그 리고 취미나 여가활동에 참여하는 것이었다. 하지만 낮은 참여 빈도를 보였다. 각 변수간의 상관성을 알아본 결과 사회적 지지는 자기효능감(p<.01)와 지역사회 참여에서 양의 상관관계를 나타냈다(p<.001). 결론 : 유방암 환자의 사회적 역할, 관계 등을 고려한 작업치료 중재 프로그램의 개발과 추가적인 연구가 필요하다.

        암은 오랫동안 한국인의 주된 사망원인이었으며, 주로 환경적 요인이 암 발생에 영향을 주고 있다. 암으로 인한 높은 사망률에도 불구하고, 어떠한 지리적 및 환경적 요인이 암 발생에 영향을 주는지에 대한 국내 사례 연구는 부족한 실정이다. 본 연구의 목적은 공간적 관점에서 갑상선암, 대장암, 위암, 폐암, 간암, 전립선암, 유방암을 포함한 주요 암의 발생률이 지리・환경적 요인에 따라 어떻게 다르게 나타나는지를 파악하는 것이다. 이를 위하여, 시군구 수준에서 계산된 암 발생률을 종속변수로 활용하였고, 암 발병에 영향을 미칠 것으로 기대되는 13가지 독립변수를 선정하였다. 종속변수의 공간적 의존성 및 군집을 확인하기 위하여 전역적, 국지적 Moran ’ s I 통계량을 이용하였고, 암 발병에 영향을 미치는 요인을 파악하기 위하여 OLS 및 공간회귀모형들을 활용하였다. 전역적 Moran 통계량과 LISA Cluster map을 통하여 암 발생의 공간적 패턴에서 공간적 자기상관을 확인할 수 있었다. 다음 OLS 회귀 분석을 통하여 암 발생에 영향을 미치는 변수들을 파악하였다. 이때 대부분의 암에서 연령 효과가 강하게 나타났기 때문에 이를 통제하였다. OLS 모형의 잔차에서 공간적 의존성이 명확하게 나타남을 확인한 후, 공간적 의존성을 모형화하기 위하여 공간회귀분석을 수행하였다. 분석 결과 모든 유형 별 암에 대한 발생률을 설명하는데 있어 공간회귀분석이 적합한 것으로 나타났다. 특히 공간적 의존성을 고려할 경우 암별로 영향을 주는 요인이 OLS 분석 결과와 상이할 수 있음을 확인하였다. 본 연구 결과는 공간통계분석을 통하여 암 발생에 영향을 주는 지리 환경적 요인을 보다 정확하게 식별할 수 있음을 보여주었다. 이러한 결과는 암을 예방하기 위하여 지역의 환경을 요인을 어떻게 개선할 것인지에 대한 유용한 정보를 제공한다.

        The purpose of this study was to investigate the inhibitory effect of enzyme activity and anti-proliferation of human cancer cell lines (HCT 116, NCI-H460 and MCF-7) of peanut skin depending on cultivars (Arachis hypogaea L. cv. K-Ol, cv. Sinpalkwang, cv. Daan, cv. Heuksaeng) and extraction solvent. Peanut skin was extracted with 80% ethanol, 80% methanol, 80% acetone, and distilled water, followed by analysis of the enzyme inhibitory activity and anticancer activity. Methanol extract of Daan cultivar most effectively inhibited α-gluosidase (65.08%, 0.025 mg/mL), tyrosinase (82.49%, 2 mg/mL) and ACE (73.61%, 10 mg/mL). The inhibitory effect of peanut skin extracts on colon cancer cell (HCT-116), lung cancer cell (NCI-H460) and breast cancer cell (MCF-7) growth were investigate using MTT assay. The highest anti-proliferation of cancer cell line of peanut skin extracts was observed in the methanol extract of Daan cultivar. The cell viability on HCT 116, NCI-H460 and MCF-7 cell lines of methanol extracts from peanut skin of Daan cultivar was 48.13%, 41.03%, and 36.02% at 200 μg/mL, respectively. These results suggest that peanut skin extracts may mediate physiological activity, and provide valuable information for the use of peanut byproduct as a functional food material.
