For diamond/metal composites it is better to use diamond particles coated with metal carbide because of improved wettability between the diamond particles and the matrix. In this study, the coating of diamond particles with a chromium carbide layer is investigated. On heating diamond and chromium powders at 800~900 oC in molten salts of LiCl, KCl, CaCl2, the diamond particles are coated with Cr7C3. The surfaces of the diamond powders are analyzed using X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The average thickness of the Cr7C3 coating layers is calculated from the result of the particle size analysis. By using the molten salt method, the Cr7C3 coating layer is uniformly formed on the diamond particles at a relatively low temperature at which the graphitization of the diamond particles is avoided. Treatment temperatures are lower than those in the previously proposed methods. The coated layer is thickened with an increase in heating temperature up to 900 oC. The coating reaction of the diamond particles with chromium carbide is much more rapid in LiCl-KCl-CaCl2 molten salts than with the molten salts of KCl-CaCl2.

In order to improve the high temperature oxidation resistance and lifespan of mat type porous carbon insulation, SiC was coated on carbon insulation by solution coating using polycarbosilane solution, curing in an oxidizing atmosphere at 200 oC, and pyrolysis at temperatures up to 1200 oC. The SiOC phase formed during the pyrolysis process was converted into SiC crystals as the heat treatment temperature increased, and a SiC coating with a thickness of 10-15 nm was formed at 1600 oC. The SiC coated specimen showed a weight reduction of 8.6 % when it was kept in an atmospheric environment of 700 oC for 1 hour. On the other hand, the thermal conductivity was 0.17W/mK, and no difference between states before and after coating was observed at all.

As the automobile industry has recently developed, the automobile parts processing industry is also increasing. However, as the processing companies don't have their own studies or facilities now, their productivity is low. And they are in difficult situations because they cannot stay economically competitive. This study measured the cutting force, surface roughness, and tool wear of Ductile Cast Iron(FCD500) used in automobile brake modules in automobile parts to try to help harsh realities of automobile parts processing industry. And it drew the result by taking a test to increase productivity of processing companies as interrupted cutting is more used in industrial settings than continuous processing.
