본 논문은 토니 모리슨의 소설 낙원에 드러난 희생양 메커니즘의 폭력을 드러내고자 한다. 모리슨은 소설에서 인종주의적인 미국 주류 사회뿐만 아니라 차별받고 억압당하는 흑인 공동체 내 희생양 메커니즘에 대한 문제의식을 드러 내며 이러한 폭력을 멈추고자 하는 등장인물들의 모습을 묘사해왔다. 특히 모리 슨과 공통된 문제 의식과 종교적 가치관을 공유한 문학비평가이자이자 인류학 자인 르네 지라르의 희생양 메커니즘에 대한 통찰과 이 소설에 나타난 시민권 시기 비폭력 저항 운동에 대한 고찰을 바탕으로 모리슨의 작품에서 등장 인물 들이 희생양 메커니즘의 실체를 자각하고 극복하고자 행동하는 데 있어서 미국 흑인의 기독교적 신앙이 담당하는 역할을 조명하고자 했다. 지라르는 문학은 사 회과학보다 인간 삶의 진실을 더 잘 표현하고 있다고 지적했고 소설과 각종 에 세이에서 모리슨은 지라르와 공통적으로 인간 사회의 폭력과 ‘희생’이라는 주제 에 천착해 왔다. 희생양 메커니즘과 같은 사회적 폭력을 극복하는 데 있어서 그 리스도교적인 가치관에 깊이 공감했던 모리슨 소설의 도덕적이고 종교적인 비 전에 대한 연구는 지라르의 문화인류학에서 새로운 통찰을 얻을 수 있으리라 생각된다.

보들레르와 김춘수의 시세계는 고통의 감각으로 점철되어 있다. 보들레르는 그의 시론인 인공낙원 과 일련의 시편들에서 마약중독으로 인한 고통을 승화 하는 양상을 아름답게 형상화한다. 김춘수는 그의 시론인 고통에 대한 콤플렉 스 와 일련의 시편들에 고문 체험으로 인한 고통을 승화하는 양상을 아름답게 형상화한다. 이 시인들은 궁극적으로 예술작품의 창작이라는 승화를 통해 고통 스러운 콤플렉스를 극복하고, 예술적 이상으로서의 인공낙원의 건축으로 새로 운 시인상을 만들어냄으로써 자기 치유를 추구한다. 이러한 고통의 감각은 정신 분석학적으로 인간의 근본조건으로서의 죽음충동이 반복강박적으로 시적 주체 를 공격한다는 데 있다. 결론적으로 이러한 고통의 극한에서 상징적 죽음으로서 의 무의 지점을 발견한 보들레르와 김춘수는 무로부터의 창조를 해 나아간다. 그 결과 보들레르는 인공낙원과 미학적 천국에 이른다. 이와 대조적으로, 김춘 수는 신학적 천국으로서의 인공낙원, 즉, 천상과 지상의 일치에 이른다.

Bongik-dong, Kwonnong-dong, Ikseon-dong and Nakwon-dong are areas around Donhwamun-ro in Seoul. These residential areas began to be developed collectively from the 1920s and the construction period was the fastest among hanok residences collectively formed in urban center. At that time, houses were developed with high density. In the 1920s, many medium-sized plots of less than 3,300㎡ were distributed around Donhwamun-ro. Private developers such as Jeong Se-kwon(Konyangsa), Shin Tae-jong, and Yoon Heung-rim, who were active at the time, purchased medium-sized plots. Developers sold out the land directly or after constructing Hanok on the divided plot and then selling them. This method of developing hanok residences by private developers in the 1920s have influenced on hanok residences which began to be developed after the 1930s. Currently, many urban Hanoks still remain in areas around Donhwamun-ro. The initial aspects of the hanok development in the 1920s could be grasped through blocks, plot division, alleys, row house Hanok etc around Donhwamun-ro.

This paper examines the intertextual relationsbip between Toni Morrison's Paradise and the Bible, which has been a consistent, inspirational source througbout her works. lt argues that the author deconstructs and restructures the notion of holiness, using the Scriptures, as she suggests building a "paradise" as a solution to the problematics of American society. The privileged residents of Ruby, an all-black town, believe that they are "holy and pure" as a chosen people of God while they have fossilized and idolized their founding fathers' spiritual and religious experiences. It is revealed that their concept of holiness is intertwined with their faith in black racial purity, an unwritten blood rule that determines Ruby citizens' legitimacy. Their exclusivism based on "reversed racism" reaches its climax when they attack the five women at the Convent, who hold the inferior term in Ruby's holy/unholy dyad. Morrison, however, blurs the boundary between Ruby the covenanted community and the Convent when she implies the redemption of these "sinful" women and calls them "holy." Ultimately, the "barefoot walk" of Deacon, who has led the Convent massacre, suggests the possibility of Ruby to be a "shrine," where even the strange and foreign are accepted as God's chosen and holy people.
