        This study was conducted to investigate the consumption of milk, along with satisfaction for improvement of the school milk program in middle school. The subjects were 447 middle school students(265 male, 182 female) in the Gyeonggi area, who were asked to fill out the questionnaire. The collected data were analyzed by a SAS package. The results showed that 53.2% of the subjects were participating in the school milk program. Regarding the frequency of milk consumption, 77.7% of students reported daily milk consumption and 65.3% of students reported they drank milk when it was available. 56.8% of the students responded that they were satisfied with the school milk program. Male students not participating in the school milk program cited the reason as "eating at home", while non-participating female students cited the reason as "tasteless". When asked whether they accepted or rejected the school milk program, male students(97.7%) and female students(97.8%) answered "it should be executed". To improve the school milk program, most of the students(72.2%) stated that "it should be selected among flavored milk(strawberry, banana, chocolate, black bean, and husked rice milk) instead of white milk". Therefore, in order to increase the intake of milk, the students should develop the habit of drinking milk to gain the attention of parents. Also, schools should attempt to help through offering proper dietary education.

        이 연구에서는 장르 분석 및 레지스터 분석을 통해 중학생들의 지구과학 주제 글쓰기의 언어적 특징을 분석하였다. 연구 자료는 7, 9학년 학생들을 대상으로 '지구 온난화'와 '암석의 분류' 주제 글쓰기를 실시하여 얻은 학생들의 글쓰기를 대상으로 하였다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 학생들은 장르별 글쓰기에 익숙하지 않았으며 특히 논설장르 글쓰기에 많은 어려움을 보였다. 둘째, 내용과 논리관계의 특징으로 정의나 분류와 같이 한 부분을 다른 부분과 관련시키는 관계적 술어보다는 행동 및 하는 것을 의미하는 현상적 술어와 부가적 논리 관계가 많이 나타났다. 셋째, 상호관계적 표현의 특징으로 글 속에서 글의 주체, 글쓴이의 감정, 주관적 의견들이 많이 드러났으며, 학생들은 자신의 생각에 대해서 확신을 가지지 못하고 불확실성을 드러내었다. 넷째, 텍스트 구성의 특징으로 대부분의 학생들이 부가 접속사를 통해 단편적인 정보들을 나열하였으며, 체계적이며 논리적인 글을 쓰는데 익숙하지 않았다. 연구 결과를 바탕으로 과학적 소양의 함양을 목표로 하는 과학 학습에서 과학 글쓰기가 강조되어야 하며 국가 교육과정차원에서 체계적인 계획뿐만 아니라 과학 글쓰기에 대한 교사들의 인식이 향상되어야 함을 논의하였다.

        The middle school subjects were 65.8% girls and 34.2% boys. Seniors were most abundant at 56.3%. The most abundant location was Gyeonggi-do (54.7%), and 69.3% of subjects were living with 4?5 family members. Approximately 56% of the mothers had graduated from high school, and 58.1% were unemployed. The mother most often prepared the food (78.4%), fish was eaten mostly in the home, and taste was the most important factor (62.6%). The preferred home food menu was fish because it is healthy, and the main cause for disliking the school meal service was poor quality dishes compared to a home cooked meal. The acceptance and type of fish were proportional. Rice was the most favored dish to eat with fish and scored 3.97, the highest rank. Approximately 50% answered that fish was nutritious, and a significant difference was observed regarding the mother's educational background (p<0.05). Students who never had a lecture about fish answered that fish was not nutritious, which showed a significant difference with education (p<0.05). Approximately 44% of students ate fish 2?3 times per week, and male students showed a significantly higher intake of fish than female students (p<0.05). The poorly educated disliked fish the most, and the higher frequency intake of fish resulted in a significantly higher percentile (p<0.001).

        This study conducted a questionnaire survey of 482 male and female second graders in middle schools located in Cheongju, Chungcheongbukdo. This study lays its purpose on establishing the nutrition facts labeling system by understanding eating habits and analyzing the actual state of reading nutrition facts labels and degrees of understanding them among middle school students, and helping them to engage in right food purchasing activities and through it result in developing sound eating habits by providing them with basic material to be employed to actively utilize nutrition facts for choosing and buying healthy foods. As a result of surveying regarding the actual state of reading food labels, regarding degrees of recognition of food labels, it was revealed that 91.1% of female students recognized them, while 42.1% of male students did not recognize them, indicating lower levels of recognition among the male group. Regarding reasons for not checking food labels, 49.2% indicated habitual purchasing, followed by poor contents in the label(20.2%), ununderstandable contents(17.7%), and the lower reliability of the contents(6.9%). As a result of surveying regarding the actual state of reading nutrition facts labels, in recognition of nutrition facts labels, female rather than male students showed higher degrees of recognition, and degrees of recognition were found to differ according to parents` total income and mothers` educational attainments.

        The purpose of this study is to investigate learning desire based on the interests, application of clothing and textiles in Technology․Home Economics curriculum of middle school. For this research, a questionnaire survey was conducted to 404 middle school students living in Seoul and Kyunggi areas. The data was analyzed by frequency, descriptive statistics, Cronbach's α coefficient, one-way ANOVA, and Duncan-test using SPSS 14.0. The conclusions of this study are as follows: First, the perception of middle school student for Technology․Home Economics was low. Students were interested not in the clothing and textile education but in getting dressed specially, and purchasing of clothes. Second, the more interested in the area of clothing and textiles, the higher is the application of apparels coordination, apparel purchase, and apparel management. And the more interested in the area of clothing and textiles, the higher is the desire in class contents. Therefore, teaching-learning methods should be developed to improve middle school students' interests, and applications in the clothing and textiles.

        이 연구의 목적은 지구과학 수업에 적용한 MBL(Microcomputer Based Laboratory, 이하 MBL)이 중학생의 그래프 능력, 과학탐구능력에 미치는 효과를 알아보고자 하는 것이다. 중학교 지구과학 내용 중 5개의 실험 주제에 대하여 MBL 활용 탐구 활동 자료를 개발하였다. 이 MBL 수업자료를 33명의 중학생들에게 적용하고 사전 검사와 사후 검사를 실시하였다. 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, MBL 수업은 중학생의 그래프 능력 향상에 유의미한 효과가 있었다. 그래프 능력의 하위 영역인 그래프 작성, 그래프 해석 능력 모두에서 유의미한 향상을 보였다. 특히 자료 변환하기 영역에서 유의미한 효과가 크게 나타났다. 둘째, MBL 수업은 중학생의 과학탐구능력 향상에 유의미한 효과가 있었다.

        The purpose of this study was to provide basic informations for educating juveniles on desirable body image recognition by examining their body image recognition and comparing and finding problems according togender and body mass index (BMI) in middle school students. The average age of the subjects was 15, their average height was 162.5㎝, their average weight was 53.5㎏, and their average BMI was 20.1㎏/㎡. Male students wanted togain weight and female students wanted to lose weight. As for body shape, female students thought that they were fat more often than male students. Also the more overweight the students were, the higher their concerns and experiences toward weight control. Among weight control methods, exercise scored highest in all BMI groups. Over 80% of the respondents answered that their weight control effort were not systematic such as via professional counseling. As for the frequency of eating breakfast and dinner in female students, the more a student was overweight, the lower their frequency of eating breakfast and dinner. Many respondents answered that a typical meal time was ``10∼20 minutes``. The average eating habit score for all subjects was 38.0. The eating habit scores of male students were significantly higher than those of female students, and there were no significant differences among BMI groups. Eating habit score of ``I have more than two meals with rice everyday`` in female overweight group was significantly higher than those of other two groups. These results indicate that the female students` degree of preference for a slim body shape were higher than those of male students. In addition, weight control by students is not systematic through professional counseling; instead they attempt to control their weight by themselves such as a meal skip, which lead to potential danger that they may lose weight carelessly. Therefore, correct body image recognition is greatly needed, and families and schools should make ceaseless efforts to help students properly control their weight and have correct eating attitudes.

        We surveyed 553 middle school students living in Incheon using questionnaires to compare their food behaviors and snack intake patterns according to weight groups based on BMI. Mean BMI was 20.3 for males and 19.6 for females. The rate of underweight, normalweight and overweight students was 33.3, 51.7, and 15.0%, respectively. Compared to the other two groups, the overweight students perceived their body shape more accurately (p<0.01). Regarding the reasons for skipping dinner, the most frequent answer by the underweight students was 'because of snacks', while that of the overweight students was 'to lose weight' (p<0.01). The normalweight students were found to eat a Korean traditional type breakfast more frequently than the other weight groups (p<0.05). The overweight female group was more likely to overeathabitually, whereas the normalweight and underweight groups tended to overeat when they were under stress (p<0.05). As for the amount of the snack intake, the overweight male students replied that they eat quite a lot of snacks. As a conclusion, the problems found in the underweight group were unbalanced diet and the disturbance of regular meal patterns due to inappropriate snack intake. The problems shown in the overweight group were overeating due to habit or stress, fast eating speed and large amount of snack intake.

        본 연구는 과학적 소양은 과학적 지식의 획득과 과학적 담화에 참여할 수 있는 언어적 능력을 통하여 길러진다는 전제하에 대기 중의 물의 상태변화에 관한 학생 글에서 나타나는 의미관계와 과학 언어적 특징을 알아보았다. 중학교 3학년 학생 67명이 참여하여 일상생활에서 흔히 경험할 수 있는 현상과 학교과학교육에서 체계적으로 배우는 현상 에 관한 두 개의 서술형 문항에 대한 글을 작성하였다. 연구의 결과 학생들은 '이슬점' 같은 생소한 용어뿐만 아니라 '수증기', '김' 등과 같은 친숙한 용어에 대해서도 잘못된 의미관계를 형성하고 있었고, 학교과학 교육보다 일상의 경험에서 형성된 지식에서 옳은 의미관계와 잘못된 의미관계 모두 더 많이 나타났다. 일상의 과학적 현상에 대해서는 행위와 절차를 중심으로 한 서술 양상이, 학교 교육에 의해 접하게 된 현상에 대해서는 전문용어와 명사구의 사용 양상이 보였다. 본 연구를 통하여 경험에 기초한 자발적 과정은 풍부한 의미관계 형성에, 형식적이고 이론적인 과정은 명사화를 중심으로 한 전문적이고 추상적인 서술의 측면에서 과학적 언어 능력 발달에 기여함을 알 수 있었다.

        This paper investigated the effects of Korean syllable structure on the acquisition of English consonant clusters on the basis of the speech data collected from a total of 8 Korean middle school students (2 females and 6 males). A total of 24 English monosyllabic words that formed 8 different quasi minimal triplets was employed and recorded. Each triplet consisted of mono-consonantal, bi-consonantal, and tri-consonantal words like pin, spin, spring or pin, pink, pinks. The three words at four triplets were differentiated by the number of consonants at the onset position and those at the other four triplets, at the coda position. Using a 5 point-scale scoring method, two native English speakers rated the speech data in terms of (i) intelligibility and (ii) the scoring of bi- and tri-consonantal words with three points being fixed on mono-syllabic words. The main finding was that the tri-consonantal words scored the lowest, bi-consonantal words were in the middle, and mono-consonantal words scored the highest. But, this general tendency held true only at the words dissimilar at the coda position. At the onset position, on the other hand, the mono-consonantal words scored the lowest. The in-depth analysis that followed the rating showed that a comparison of the words in terms of the syllabic intelligibility can be properly made only when each consonant comprising a syllable is intelligibly articulated on its own.

        탐구는 과학교육의 본질을 설명해주는 결정적인 특징이다. 최근에는 스스로 문제를 제기하여 탐구하고 그것을 의사 소통하는 능력을 포함한 논증이 강조되고 있는데, 학교 탐구학습 맥락에서는 자율적이고 활발한 상호작용의 측면에서 그 한계가 지적되고 있다. 그래서 대안으로 비형식 맥락에서의 탐구학습이 제안되고 있으며, 이에 본 연구는 국립과천과학관 내 자연사관을 자유 관람하는 중학생 소집단의 대화적 탐구에서 나타나는 상호작용 유형을 밝히고자 하였다. 이를 위해 중학생 13그룹의 탐구적 대화 42사례를 대상으로 탐구요소 및 상호작용 유형을 분석하였다. 탐구요소는 문제제기, 자료수집, 설명의 세 가지로 구분하였고, 상호작용은 대화의 흐름을 화살표로 도식화하여 나타내었다. 문제제기로부터 탐구가 시작된다고 보았으며, 문제제기 이후 후속적인 반응에 따라 유형이 구분되었는데, 총 7가지 유형이 발견되었다. 그 유형은 문제제기 공유, 문제제기-단순응답, 문제제기-단순설명, 문제제기-단순설명-(자료수집)-자료기반 설명, 문제제기-자료수집-자료기반 설명의 5가지로 크게 나누어지고, 가장 많은 빈도를 보인 유형 2는 다시 소극 회피적 응답, 부정확한 응답, 패턴의 반복으로 세분화되었다. 본 연구는 비형식 탐구학습에서 학교 탐구학습과 차별화되는 상호작용 패턴을 파악하였다는 점에서 기존 연구들과 차별성을 가지며, 비형식 탐구학습에서 상호작용 유형을 기술하고 있다는 점에서 비형식 탐구학습 연구를 위한 기초를 제공하였다는 의의를 가진다.

        The objective of this study was to investigate a method to improve and to increase the utilization of Korean traditional food in middle school students by examining preferences and perceptions. Middle school students in Seoul area were surveyed from 29 November to 6 December 2007. The results are summarized as follows: 83.9% students ate Korean food as breakfast. The reasons for the success of Korean food were 'Nation's traditional food' (29.2%), 'fit in taste' (27.4%), and 'suitable match of nutrients' (24.8%). Students responded that the following needed to be changed in order to improve Korean food: 'alleviation of strong taste' (30.3%), 'various cooking methods' (23.9%), and 'convenience of eating the food' (22.1%). Meal preferences in this survey of middle school students were 'Korean food' (4.09), 'Western food' (4.08), 'Japanese food' (4.00), 'Chinese food' (3.91) and 'Fast food' (3.55). Perceptions in the taste of Korean food were 'spicy taste' (3.28), 'hot taste' (3.22), and 'salty taste' (3.15). Male students (3.23) perceived a higher salty taste than female students (3.05). Expectations for the taste of Korean food included 'spicy taste' (3.16) and hot taste (3.03). Male students (3.25) anticipated the spicier taste more than female students (3.05).
