We found ten species of larvae belonging to the family Pleuronectidae as a result of analysis on ichthyoplankton collected monthly from the East Sea, Yellow Sea, Korea Strait and East China Sea between February 2016 and May 2018 using bongo net. The ten species of pleuronectid larvae were divided into three groups in morphology. Group A had three or four bars on the lateral side of the tail: Glyptocephalus stelleri, G. kitaharae, Pseudopleuronectes yokohamae, and Hippoglossoides dubius. Group B had a row of melanophores along the dorsal and ventral side of tail: Cleisthenes pinetorum, Eopsetta grigorjewi, Dexistes rikuzenius, and Platichthys bicoloratus. Group C had dense melanophores which are covering trunk and tail entirely except caudal peduncle: Platichthys cornutus and Platichthys japonicus. The three groups did not associate with previous molecular phylogenetic studies except for the G. stelleri and G. kitaharae of the group A.

한국산 둥글장수풍뎅이(Pentodon quadridens bidentulus)의 3령 유충과 번데기의 형태를 처음 기술한다. 서식지와 실험실 사육에서 둥글장수 풍뎅이의 생태, 분포, 생활사 또한 제공한다.

Many spiders belonging to Enoplognatha Pavesi, 1880 and Parasteatoda Archer, 1946 of Theridiidae were collected with sweep net between shrubs and bushes in the mountain forest during a survey of the mountain spider fauna. Among the spiders collected, male Enoplognatha gramineusa Zhu, 1998 and female Parasteatoda ryukyu (Yoshida 2000) were recognized as newly recorded spiders to Korean spider fauna. The present work describes these two spiders with measurements and morphological illustrations.

The supertribe Faronitae consists of 29 genera worldwide, and 13 genera in Australia and New Zealand. During examine 36 specimens from the private collection of Donald S. Chandler (Durham, New Hampshire, USA) and the Field Museum of Natural History (Chicago, Illinois, USA), we recognized three species. They does not share diagnostic characters with any known faronite genus. Here we describe new genus and three new species from Western Australia. Members of this new genus can be distinguished by the following combination characters: rostrum with distinct shallow and narrow frontal sulcus, apically sharp and narrow median lobe of male genitalia, and twice longer abdominal segment VI than V.

이 논문은 첫째, 明末 전후의 진보적인 儒者는 ‘治生’을 긍정적으로 바라보았고, 심지어 치생이 ‘財富의 분배(증여)’와 상반되는 것이 아니라 증여를 실천할 바탕이라고 인식했음을 밝힌다. 그리고 명말의 단편소설집『三言二拍』의 작가 ― 馮夢龍과 凌濛初는 그들의 저술 목적 이 敎化에 있고 通俗적 수단을 지향한다고 했는데, 이러한 의식 기저에는 ‘치생’ 욕구와 ‘증여’ 의식이 함께 교차함을 밝혔다. 둘째, 그러한 치생과 증여의 의식이 『삼언이박』에서 문학 적으로 형상화되어서 배려, 구원, 적선, 환원 등의 다양한 ‘증여’ 서사가 펼쳐짐을 밝힌다. 아울러 여러 ‘증여’ 서사를 지배하는 의식의 기저를 규명하여 재부의 축적과 재분배가 어떻게 문학적으로 담론되는지를 밝혔다.

Nysius Dallas, 1852, is one of the most common and widely distributed genera under the superfamily Lygaeoidae. Species under this genus are hard to identify due to similarity of the species and variability of the coloration. The Nysius species were collected with the help of aspirator and plastic vile in the perilla crop fields in RDA, Miryang, Korea. Korean species of the Nysius were identified, and three species including a newly reported species N. inconspicuus were recognized. Morphological and genetic characteristics of species were illustrated, and a key to species of Korean Nysius was provided. The DNA barcoding information of N. plebeius and N. inconspicuus were recorded.

The genus Meganola (Nolidae, Nolinae) was established by Dyar (1898), with the type species Meganola conspicua Dyar, 1898, from America (Type locality: Texas, Colorado, Arizona). This genus comprises 80 species described in the Palaearctic and Oriental region. In this study, genus Meganola Dyar is reviewed from Korea, with description of a new species. We redescribed 12 species and one new species. Illustrations of adults and genitalia of all Korean species are provided, with a key to the genus of Meganola based on the male genitalia.

The dung beetle, Copris tripartitus, has been listed as an endangered insect in Korea. In contrast to typical genomic characteristics, the 15,457-bp long, the complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of C. tripartitus has a few unusual characteristics. The genome has the trnP-trnT arrangement at the ND4L-ND6 junction, which is found only in two species of Scarabaeoidea, including C. tripartitus, in 53 available species. Twelve protein coding genes (PCGs) have typical ATT and ATG start codons, whereas COII had the start codon GTA, which is unprecedented in Scarabaeidae. The 297-bp A + T-rich region, which is the shortest available in Scarabaeidae, harbors three repeat units (26, 29, and 21 bp), each consisting of duplicated identical sequences interspersed in the A + T-rich region. Phylogenetic analyses were performed using the concatenated sequences of the 13 PCGs and two rRNA genes using both the Bayesian inference (BI) and maximum likelihood (ML) methods for the families Scarabaeidae and Lucanidae that are available for their mitogenomes in Scarabaeoidea. Our consensus phylogeny yielded monophylies of each family and the subfamily Scarabaeinae in Scarabaeidae with the high nodal supports (0.99-1 by BI and 79-100 by ML). Among the three tribes, represented by multiple genera in Scarabaeinae each Oniticellini and Onitini was supported as monophyletic groups with the highest nodal supports (1 by BI and 100 by ML), whereas Onthophagini was non-monophyletic group, presenting the tribe relationships: ((((Oniticellini + Onthophagini [Caccobius, Milichus, Onthophagus]) + Onthophagini [Digitonthophagus, Phalops]) + Onitini) + (Phanaeini + Eurysternini) + Coprini).

한국고유종인 밭고랑거미과의 봉화밭고랑거미Agroeca bonghwaensis (Seo, 2011) 수컷을 측정치 및 형태학적 도해와 함께 처음으로 기재한다. 봉화밭고랑거미의 수컷은 A. brunnea (Blackwall, 1833) 수컷의 더듬이다리기관과 유사하나 끝부분이 뭉뚝한 후측면돌기와 기부가 넓고 끝부분이 넓은 갈고리 모양의 중부돌기로 쉽게 구분된다.

In the Sumeunmulbaengdui Wetland Protected Area of Jeju Island, there exists a unique pond, a so-called ‘Ohmi’, which is likely to be an oasis supporting the wildlife and escaped-livestock. We exquisitely described the diversity and distribution of plant community of the Ohmi. Despite its small area, six syntaxa were identified: Sphagnum community of peat bog type, Nymphoides coreana community of the floating-leaf limnetic vegetation, Scirpus triangulatus community and Schoenoplectus hotarui community of the littoral zone vegetation, and Deinostema violacea-Eleocharis congesta community and Eriocaulon atrum-miquelianum community of the ephemeral vegetation. A zonal distribution of plant communities along the water depth was recognized. The Sphagnum islets regarded as a typical component of peat bog, in Korea were first described at the center of the Ohmi. We conclude that the Ohmi is a primeval keystone habitat of the Sumeunmulbaengdui intermediate moor with a less oligotrophic ombrotrophic environment.

While working on beetles collected by using flight interception trap, we found specimens possessing similar characters with salpingidine genus Lissodema Curtis. After detailed examination of the specimens and comparison with other Lissodema species, we concluded that these specimens represent a new species of the genus. The genus Lissodema was first proposed by Curtis based on Lissodema heyana Curtis and contains 19 species in the Palaearctic region. In eastern Asia, 14 and three species are recorded in Japan and Russian Far East, respectively, but no species have been reported from Korea. In this study, a description, habitus photographs and line drawings of diagnostic characters of a new species from Korea are provided.

We observed the external genitalia and uterus of a 24-month-old freemartin Hanwoo. The vulva was smaller than observed in a normal female Hanwoo, while the clitoris was larger in the freemartin. The angle between the external genitalia and the perineum also varied. Upon internal genital examination, the uterus of the freemartin was a thin tube approximately 18 cm in size and had not differentiated into a normal uterus and uterine horns.

주왕산국립공원의 삼림식생에 대한 식물사회학적 연구가 이루어졌다. 식물사회의 종조성과 서식처의 균질성을 강조하는 Z.-M. 학파의 방법으로 수행하였다. 52개 식생자료가 획득되었고, 출현식물 총 265분류군의 행동양식은 9계급의 변환통합우점도와 상대기여도를 통해 분석하였다. 식생자료의 모둠화 과정을 통해 단위식생을 분류하고, 그 분포와 현존균질도 등이 분석되었다. 4가지 상관우점식생 속에 9개 식물군락이 기재되었다: 신갈나무-애기감둥사초군락, 신갈나무-뱀고사리군락, 졸참나무-둥근잎천남성군락, 굴참나무-털조록싸리군락, 떡갈나무-털피나무군락, 서어나무-털대사초군락, 느티나무-등칡군락, 들메나무-개면마군락, 소나무-가는잎그늘사초군락. 삼림식생의 대상분포가 논의되었고, 표고 약 700 m가 냉온대 중부·산지대(신갈나무-생강나무아군단역)와 남부·저산지대(졸참나무-작살나무아군단역)의 전이대인 것으로 밝혀졌다. 주왕산국립공원의 삼림식생은 종조성의 낮은 균질성이 특징이었다. 결론적으로 주왕산국립공원의 삼림식생은 <지역생물기후구-대구형> 속에서 더욱 강한 대륙성 생물기후환경과 세립질 풍화토와 암편을 공급하는 유문암질 응회암 우세의 지질 환경에 대응하는 고유성이 큰 지역식생이고, 산불 영향이 더해진 근자연림 또는 이차림인 것으로 밝혀졌다.

Two species of the genus Argyresthia Hübner are reported for the first time from Korea: A. albicomella Moriuti, A. alpha Friese & Moriuti. Up to now, unknown information of male genitalia of A. albicomella is firstly described herein. Illustration of adults and genitalia are provided.
