        Methods for predicting the ultimate/buckling strength of ship structures have been extensively improved in terms of design formulas and analytical solutions. In recent years, the design strategy of ships and offshore structures has tended to emphasize lighter builds and improve operational safety. Therefore, the corresponding geometrical changes in design necessitate the use of high-tensile steel and thin plates. However, the existing design formulas were mainly developed for thick plates and mild steels. Therefore, the calculation methods require appropriate modification for new designs beased on high-tensile steel and thin plates. In this study, a modified formula was developed to predict the ultimate strength of thin steel plates subjected to compressive and shear loads. Based on the numerical results, the effects of the yield stress, slenderness ratio, and loading condition on the buckling/ultimate strength of steel plates were examined, and a newly modified double-beta parameter formula was developed. The results were used to derive and modify existing closed-form expressions and empirical formulas to predict the ultimate strength of thin-walled steel structures.

        Purple-fleshed potato powder (PFPP) was investigated to determine optimal mixing ratio with milk powder and dextrin to produce a ready-to-eat mashed potato powder. The rheological characteristics, color, and anthocyanin contents were studied at a different concentration of ingredients. The power-law model was applied to explain the mechanical spectra of mashed potatoes which represented the change in structure induced by different mixing ratios. Mixture design was used to obtain the experimental points used to establish the empirical models to describe the effects of each ingredient on the characteristic of the mashed potato. The results of mechanical spectra showed that both storage and loss moduli (G' and G'') were significantly influenced by PFPP and milk powder concentration. The power law parameters n' and n'' showed higher values for the mashed potato with a lower concentration of PFPP and a higher concentration of milk powder, which showed that the gel networks involved in the mashed potato were weaker. The optimum mixing ratio with the highest redness and anthocyanin content, while maintaining the rheological properties similar to the commercial mashed potato, was determined as PFPP:milk powder:dextrin = 90.49:4.86:4.65 (w/w). The proportions of PFPP and milk powder in the formulation significantly changed the characteristics of mashed potato, whereas no significant effect of dextrin was observed in this formulation.

        Cylindrical shells are often used in ship structures at deck plating with a camber, side shell plating at fore and aft parts, and bilge structure part. It has been believed that such curved shells can be modelled fundamentally by a part of a cylinder under axial compression. From the estimations with the usage of cylinder models, it is known that, in general, curvature increases the buckling strength of a curved shell subjected to axial compression, and that curvature is also expected to increase the ultimate strength. We conduct series of elasto-plastic large deflection analyses in order to clarify the fundamentals in buckling and plastic collapse behaviour of cylindrical shells under axial compression. From the numerical results, we derive design formula for predicting the ultimate strength of cylindrical shell, based on a series of the nonlinear finite element calculations for all edges, simply supporting plating, varying the slenderness ratio, curvature and aspect ratio, as well as the following design formulae for predicting the ultimate strength of cylindrical shell. From a number of analysis results, fitting curve can be developed to use parameter of slenderness ratio with implementation of the method of least squares. The accuracy of design formulae for evaluating ultimate strength has been confirmed by comparing the calculated results with the FE-analysis results and it has a good agreement to predict their ultimate strength.

        Involved in a research for the application of seismic isolation to the nuclear industry, this study evaluates firstly the responses of seismic isolation system considering general ranges of structural period and damping ratio by using preliminary design formula. Secondly, coupling effects of input motions were evaluated to find out appropriate conditions of excitations and effect of the iteration for calculating yield displacement of lead core was also assessed in terms of response of a seismically isolated structure. Finally, the results of preliminary design calculation were compared with those of dynamic analysis and the propriety of the formula was evaluated and appropriate ranges of reduction factor were also suggested from the results.

        The Axial compression tests were conducted on FRP strengthened circular CFT short clumns with the test parameters of D/t ratio and the number of FRP sheet ply. The ultimate strength design formula were proposed by applying ACI 440 code for FRP strengthened circular CFT columns.

        In this study, by comparing the current steel structure design equations find out the problems, we will utilize to make the pipe-gusset joint equations. Representative equations CIDECT and AIJ-02 consider unreinforced and reinforced. As a result, there is some difference. therefore current equations decrease in reliability, in order to propose more accurate design equations need additional testing experimentation through finite element analysis

        선체구조 부재에는 이중저의 거더 및 늑판 등에서 유공을 가진 판이 많이 사용되고 있고, 이는 중량 경감, 사람 및 화물의 이동, 배관 등의 목적으로, 보통은 강도상 큰 문제가 없는 부위에 위치하지만, 때로는 불가피하게 높은 응력이 작용하는 부위에 설치해야 할 경우도 있다. 이러한 판에 유공의 존재는 면내 하중에 의한 탄성좌굴강도 및 최종강도에 큰 영향을 주게 된다. 따라서 유공판의 탄성좌굴강도 및 최종강도 평가는 선박의 초기 구조설계단계에서 구조부재 치수를 결정할 때 검토해야 할 중요한 설계기준 중의 한가지 이다. 그러므로, 유공판에 대한 합리적인 신뢰적인 탄성좌굴강도 및 최종강도 평가가 필요시 되고 있으며 본 연구에서는 다양한 종횡비와 유공비 그리고 세장비의 영향을 고려하여 탄소성 대변형 유한요소 시리즈해석 결과를 바탕으로 하여 간단한 설계식을 도출하였다.
