        This study addresses the scarcity of research examining technology’s impact on learners of English as a foreign language in English for specific purposes (ESP) courses within English-medium instruction (EMI) programs. Focusing on a business communication course using a social question-answering platform, this study explores the interplay among English proficiency, motivational orientations, and online engagement. Surveying 126 university students via a mixed-method approach, this research identifies distinct motivational orientations (intrinsic, extrinsic, and self-efficacy) existing during class activities, influenced by proficiency levels, with notable differences in online participation between beginner and advanced learners. The findings suggest that while online activities enhance peer interaction and teacher feedback, they may trigger anxiety in beginners, potentially diminishing motivation and self-efficacy. These results emphasize the need to tailor technology integration to proficiency levels and motivational orientations in ESP/EMI settings. Practical recommendations are offered for educators aiming to implement effective online activities and provide targeted support, particularly for beginner learners, thereby bolstering their motivation and selfefficacy.

        This longitudinal study examined how an English for Specific Purposes (ESP) teacher transformed her teacher identity over time. Hinging on the close relationship between teaching and identity construction, this study was grounded on the notion that teaching a language is becoming a person who teaches it (Benson, 2017). Data were collected through six face-to-face interviews and six electronic interviews with the teacher during a four-year period. Findings demonstrate that becoming an ESP teacher is a complex process of constructing and negotiating identities. The teacher started ESP teaching as a scared general English teacher, and then negotiated her identities as a struggling but hardworking collaborator and learner. Later, she positioned herself as a novice ESP teacher, and then finally constructed her identity as a competent, helpful ESP teacher. Significant factors affecting identity transformation include needs analysis, enhanced subject matter knowledge, capacity to develop teaching materials, and teacher agency. Based on these findings, this study suggests implications for ESP teacher education programs.

        The present paper was intended to examine the research trends in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) using python and text mining. For this purpose, data were first collected from domestic and foreign theses as well as academic journals published between 1990 and 2019 and available on Research Information Sharing Service (RISS). Then keywords from the titles of the studies were extracted and analyzed via text mining. The study revealed that (1) Both domestic and foreign studies seemed to share much in common in terms of their favored research topics in ESP-text communication, English for Academic Purposes (EAP), and course/curriculum design; (2) Corpus/needs analyses were most favored in Korean ESP studies, while genre/needs analyses and case studies were in foreign ESP studies; (3) 'Engineering' was the field of study most dealt with in both domestic and foreign EAP research; and (4) Not all trends in the same period coincide in domestic and foreign ESP studies. Finally, the present study offered future directions derived from the results of the study.

        The present study investigates secondary school student athletes’ specific needs for English learning and analyzes correlation and a cause and effect relationship among the needs-related variables. Two hundred forty six student athletes enrolled in physical education. Junior and senior high schools participated in the study. Data were collected through a survey that inquired about the students’ perceived English ability and learning areas of interest, their needs for ESP education, and aspects to be considered for ESP course design. The results show that the students put more emphasis on verbal communication (i.e., on speaking and listening) than on written communication (i.e., on reading and writing) and that they wanted more practical ESP education reflecting their needs and interests. Additionally, there was significant correlation (p<.01) among the subjects’ learning areas of interest, needs for ESP education, and aspects to be considered for ESP course design; a cause and effect relationship among the above three variables was discovered by goodness of fit test for structure equation model. Based on these findings, it is concluded that secondary school student athletes’ perceived English ability and areas of interest for English learning influence both their needs for ESP education and aspects to be considered for ESP course design.

        The study analyzes English for Specific Purposes(ESP) needs of law school students and lawyers for developing English for Legal Purposes(ELP) courses in Korea. In order to investigate pedagogic needs of the learners and target needs of the domain experts, 74 law school students and 50 lawyers who were in charge of legal cases were interviewed and surveyed. The content of the questionnaire consisted of pedagogic and target needs about lawyer's tasks and open questions and comments about English education for law school students. The results of the analysis showed that learners' main need for studying English is conducting legal research and in communicating with others. The results of the language function analysis indicated that understanding legal terminology, reviewing provisions of law, writing a legal memo, legal translation, evaluating information to determine compliance with standards are considered important. The results also showed the differences in the importance ranking of function and type of language skills between the learner group and the domain expert group.

        Park Hai-kyong & Jeon Ji-hyeon. 2014. Move analyses of English job application letters: A case of Korean college students. The Sociolinguistic Journal of Korea 22(1). The purpose of this study is to examine the rhetorical structure of English job application letters written by Korean college students. College students were asked to write job application letters as an assignment for their Business English class. A move-analysis was conducted for the obtained college students' application letters. Then, the results were compared to the authentic application letters written by (1) Korean workers who obtained the interview and the job through their application letters and (2) native English-speakers who were in search of jobs in Korea. The results indicated that there were no consistent differences among the three group statistically. However, the authentic letters from the Korean and the English workers showed similar patterns in move sequence, frequency, and length, which was different from those written by the college students. The Korean college students seemed to use all the moves in their letters, whereas the other two groups seemed to focus more on promoting candidature(Move 5) for the communicative purpose of a job application letter. The present study suggests that an understanding of both the rhetorical patterns and the communicative purpose (i.e., to obtain an interview opportunity in the case of submitting a job application letter) should be emphasized in the genre writing process.

        Abstract Dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) in air, which has been established for the production of large quantities of ozone, is more recently being applied to a wider range of aftertreatment processes for HAPs (hazardous air pollutants). Although DBD has high electron density and energy, its potential use as precharging nano and submicron sized particles, is not known. In this work, we measured V‐I (voltage‐current) characteristics of DBD and estimated the collection efficiency of particles with bimodal distribution by DBD type 2‐stage ESP (electrostatic precipitator). To examine the particle collection with various applied voltage waveforms of DBD, nano size particles of NaCl (20∼100 nm) and DOS (50∼800 nm) were generated by an electrical tube furnace and an atomizer, respectively. Particle collection efficiencies of all the cases increased with increase of DBD electric power that the results corresponded to product of V by I whose magnitudes were the largest in triangular voltage waveform.

        The purpose of this work is to develop a new type of particle collection filter using electrical discharge technology. The new filter must be high efficiency and applicable to air conditioner to use for household, so we suggested the new type filter. The new type filter has a distinctive feature except characteristic of ESP, a thickness of collecting electrodes is thicker than that of existing type ESP. When particles come into the filter, the particles will collide with side surfaces of the collecting electrodes. At the same time of particle collision with side surface, the particles are charged by the collision and collected by electrical force. Therefore, we called this type "Ion Impactor". We optimized condition of thickness of collecting electrodes and applied voltage using six sigma method because thickness of collecting electrodes and applied voltage are very important to improve the collection efficiency. We analyzed distribution of electric field line, the electric field lines were uniformly distributed on the side surface of the collecting electrodes. From this analysis, we can see the improvement of the particle collection efficiency. We made the ion impactor type filter on a large scale to equip to the air conditioner, and measured the particle collection efficiency. For the 0.1∼0.2㎛ range particle, the collection efficiency was higher than that of existing type ESP by 30%. The collection efficiency of the 0.3∼0.4㎛ range particle was higher by 12%.

        본 연구에서는 충주댐 유역에 대해 다목적 댐 예측유입량 산정기법 BAYES-ESP를 개발하고 평가하였다. BAYES-ESP 기법은 기존 ESP (Ensemble Streamflow Prediction) 기법에 베이지안 이론을 적용하여 개발하였으며, 수문모델은 ABCD를 활용하였다. 입력자료는 기온, 강수량 자료와 댐 관측유입량 자료를 활용하였으며, 기온 및 강수량은 기상청, 국토교통부, 한국수자원공사의 지점관측자료, 댐 관측유입량은 한국수자원공사의 자 료를 이용하였다. 적용성 평가방법은 시계열 분석과 Skill Score를 활용하였으며, 평가기간은 1986~2015년이다. 시계열 분석 결과 ESP 댐 예측 유입량(ESP)는 매년 전망값의 큰 차이가 없었으며, 다우년 및 과우년의 예측성이 떨어지는 것으로 나타났다. BAYES-ESP 댐 예측유입량(BAYESESP) 는 ESP가 관측유입량에 비해 과소모의하는 경향을 보정하였으며, 특히 다우년에 개선효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 월별 평균 댐 관측유입량 과의 Skill Score 비교분석결과 ESP는 1~3월에 SS가 비교적 높은 값을 보였으며, 나머지 월에는 음의 값을 나타내었다. BAYES-ESP는 ESP와 관측 값 간의 선형적 관계를 갖는 1~3월에 ESP의 정확도를 향상시키는 것으로 나타났다. ESP 기법은 국내 강수특성상 우리나라에 적용하기에는 한계가 있었으며, 이를 개선한 BAYES-ESP 기법은 댐 유입량 예측연구에 가치가 있다고 판단된다.

        염색가공 공정 중 텐터 후처리 과정은 섬유에 다양한 기능성을 부여하기 위해 화학약품 처리 후 건열에 의한 섬유의 셋팅을 하는 단계로 건조에 필요한 고온의 열원이 필요로 한다. 고온의 열원에 의해 기계작동을 위한 윤활유가 증발되면서 유증기(Oil-mist)형태와 각종 첨가제에서 증발된 오염성분이 함께 배출되게 된다. 또한 열원 에너지 특성상 150~160℃ 고온의 폐열이 상당량 발생한다. 염색가공 산업의 에너지 비용은 제품가격의 상승을 가져오고 있으며 이에 따른 저인금 개발도상국간의 경쟁력 저하를 발생시키고 있어 배기되는 폐열을 회수/재이용을 하는 시스템 도입이 시급한 과제이다. 기존 텐터후단에서 발생되는 폐열을 회수하기 위한 연구사례가 있지만 배기가스 중 함유된 분진 및 폐유로 인한 열교환 모듈의 폐쇄에 따른 열교환 효율 미비로 성공적인 상용화 모델이 없는 실정이다. 이를 해결하고자 섬유업종 텐터 후단에서 발생되는 고온의 배기가스를 전단 열교환식 스크라바와 건식전기집진 기술을 접목하여 폐열 회수와 동시에 악취유발물질인 폐유를 회수하고 회수 된 폐유는 정제연료유로써 재활용 가능성을 평가하였다. 본 연구를 위해 400CMM 규모의 열교환 스크라바 건식전기집진 시설을 부산에 위치한 ‘D’사의 염색가공업체에 설치하여 폐열에너지 회수량, 폐유 회수량, 회수된 폐유의 총발열량등을 평가 하였다. 평가 기술 적용대상 업체는 합섬 섬유(폴리에스테르)원료로 해포, 염색, 가공 등의 공정을 거쳐 염색된 화학섬유를 제품으로 생산하는 염색 가공업체로 360 m3 용량의 텐터 1대를 보유 하고 있다. 기존 개발된 건식전기집진시설의 낙모와 폐유로 인한 집진모듈의 오염으로 인한 관리 어려움을 개선하기 위한 열교환식 스크라바를 적용 하여 부산 염색공단내 보급화에 성공하였다. 운전 성능 평가 결과 회수되는 폐유는 0.032 L/m3・hr으로 평균 수분량 8.1~8.2%의 양질의 폐유를 회수 하였으며 발열량은 100,444 kcal/kg으로 B-C유 발열량과 유사 하였다. 배기가스에서 회수된 폐열(에너지)회수량은 평균 발생량 대비 67%인 16 kcal/m3・hr이며 암모니아와 톨루엔의 제거효율 70%이상의 우수한 결과를 나타냈다.

        본 연구에서는 ESP (Ensemble Streamflow Prediction)기법을 활용한 가뭄전망 체계를 구축하고 가뭄예보에 있어 활용성을 평가하였다. 과거 관측 수문기상 및 지형정보를 이용하여 우리나라 전역에 지면모델(Land Surface Model, LSM)을 구축하고 유출량(Historical Runoff, HR)을 생산하였다. 또한, 모의기간 동안 과거 30개 기상자료와 초기 토양수분량을 이용하여 선행시간별(1, 2, 3개월) 전망된 유출량(Predicted Runoff, PR)을 생산하였다. 평가결과 여름 및 가을철 보다 봄철 및 겨울철에 정확도가 높았으며, 1개월 전망 이후로는 정확도가 낮게 나타났다. 가뭄지수는 국내 가뭄해석에 있어 검증된 표준유출지수(Standardized Runoff Index, SRI)를 활용하였으며, PR_SRI을 산정 및 평가하였다. 1, 2개월 전망에서는 과거 HR이 고려되어 ESP HR에 비해 정확도가 크게 개선됨을 알 수 있었다. 선행시간별 상관계수는 평균 0.71, 0.48, 0.00, 평균제곱근오차는 0.46, 0.76, 1.01로 나타났으며, 건조기에 정확도가 높게 나타나 1, 2개월 전망까지는 ESP를 활용한 국내 가뭄예보의 활용성이 높다고 판단된다.

        This paper aims to identify what is needed to improve the English for Specific Purposes(ESP) curriculum for English as a Foreign Language(EFL) college learners at navigation school. Different needs from learners and experienced professionals are identified through diversified methods, and the findings from these are analysed and consolidated from a balanced point of view. For this purpose, putting learners at the centre of analysis, identifying their subjective and objective needs serves as a point of departure in formulating the curriculum. Then, the target situation is analysed according to the short-term aim of getting a job, followed by long-term needs for successfully fulfilling future duties as a pilot. Based on findings, it is suggested that ESP curriculum for learners in navigation studies should be focused on the successful language performance of their actual duties and tasks to be given in the future working situations, rather than on immediate needs for getting a job. In particular, special attention needs to be paid to enhancing learners’ productive language competences through a series of hands-on trainings and a wide range of extra-curricular activities, specifically for a higher command of oral communication. For this, not only ESP, curriculum for EGP(English for General Purposes) should be systematically structured as ESP-oriented EGP, and naturally move onto areas of ESP in a coherent manner.

        This study has been carried out to investigate Electrostatic Precipitator`s(ESP) performance enhancement and removal efficiency of fine particle according to (NH_4)_2SO_4 injection rate. The following conclusions are derived from the these test results : 1)For plant condition cases, according to the variation of concentration agent [(NH_4)_2SO_4] - 10ppm, 20ppm, 30ppm, 40ppm - ESP`s collection efficiency was increased to 97.74%, 98.95%, 99.04%, 99.47%, when inlet dust loading was 2g/㎥. And when inlet dust loading was 3g/㎥, that was increased to 98.19%, 99.16%, 99.23%, 99.58%. 2)It is seen from this experiments that the increasing 30ppm concentration of (NH_4)_2SO_4 increase the collection efficiency and fine particle emission control.
