        The lightweight and high strength characteristics of aluminum alloy materials make them have promising prospects in the field of construction engineering. This paper primarily focuses on aluminum alloy materials. Aluminum alloy was combined with concrete, wood and carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) cloth to create a composite column. The axial compression test was then conducted to understand the mechanical properties of different composite structures. It was found that the pure aluminum tube exhibited poor performance in the axial compression test, with an ultimate load of only 302.56 kN. However, the performance of the various composite columns showed varying degrees of improvement. With the increase of the load, the displacement and strain of each specimen rapidly increased, and after reaching the ultimate load, both load and strain gradually decreased. In comparison, the aluminum alloy-concrete composite column performed better than the aluminum alloy-wood composite column, while the aluminum alloy-wood-CFRP cloth composite column demonstrated superior performance. These results highlight excellent performance potential for aluminum alloy-wood-CFRP composite columns in practical applications.

        스마트팜형 시설 딸기에 예찰 없이 작물 정식 초기에 천적을 먼저 적용하는 생태공학적 Natural Enemy in First (NEF) 기법이 총채벌레류 와 진딧물류의 밀도에 미치는 영향을 확인하였다. 대조구는 약제를 처리하여 비교하였다. NEF 처리구에서 총채벌레류와 진딧물류의 천적과 서식 처로 참멋애꽃노린재와 Portulaca sp.를 적용하여 작기 종료시점까지 해충의 밀도를 대조구와 유사하게 효과적으로 관리할 수 있었다.

        During wartime, the operation of engineering equipment plays a pivotal role in bolstering the combat prowess of military units. To fully harness this combat potential, it is imperative to provide efficient support precisely when and where it is needed most. While previous research has predominantly focused on optimizing equipment combinations to expedite individual mission performance, our model considers routing challenges encompassing multiple missions and temporal constraints. We implement a comprehensive analysis of potential wartime missions and developed a routing model for the operation of engineering equipment that takes into account multiple missions and their respective time windows of required start and completion time. Our approach focused on two primary objectives: maximizing overall capability and minimizing mission duration, all while adhering to a diverse set of constraints, including mission requirements, equipment availability, geographical locations, and time constraints.

        This study explores the perceptions of Chinese engineering-major students towards their English learning experience after taking a mandatory English composition course in an EMI college. The investigation centers on first-year students’ perceptions of transitioning to EMI, with a focus on how the composition course has assisted students’ transition as a primary language support. Data were collected through a metaphor elicitation technique in which students expressed their perceptions of English learning, complemented by a thematic analysis of 86 reflection essays on the composition class. An analysis of the 334 metaphors identified students’ enhanced confidence in English, the importance of the English-using environment, positive views of learning communities, and increased agency in the learning process. It also revealed that many students were stressed and unaware of learning strategies, therefore suggesting institutional-level language support. One implication is to promote the culture of the learning community. The findings can be particularly useful for programs that are implementing language support for non-English major students.

        The WRK (Waste Repository Korea bentonite) compacted bentonite medium has been considered as the appropriate buffer material in the Korean SNF (Spent nuclear fuel) repository site. In this study, hydraulic properties of the WRK compacted bentonite core (4.5 cm in diameter and 1.0 cm in length) as the buffer material were investigated in laboratory experiments. The porosity and the entry pressure of the water saturated core at different confining pressure conditions were measured. The average velocity of water flow in the WRK compacted bentonite core was calculated from results of the breakthrough curves of the CsI aqueous solution and the hydraulic conductivity of the core was also calculated from the continuous flow core experiments. Because various gases could be generated by continuous SNF fission, container corrosion and biochemical reactions in the repository site, the gas migration property in the WRK compacted bentonite core was also investigated in experiments. The gas permeability and the average of gas (H2) in the core at different water saturation conditions were measured. Laboratory experiments with the WRK Compacted bentonite core were performed under conditions simulating the DGR environment (confining pressure: 1.5- 20.0 MPa, injection pressure: 1.0-5.0 MPa, water saturation: 0-100%). The WRK Compacted bentonite core was saturated at various confining pressure conditions and the porosity ranged from 27.5% to 43.75% (average: 36.75%). The calculated hydraulic conductivity (K) of the core using experimental results was 8.69×10-11 cm/s. The gas permeability of the core when the water saturation 0~58 % was ranged of 19.81~3.43×10-16 m2, representing that the gas migration in the buffer depends directly on the water saturation degree of the buffer medium. The average gas velocity in the core at 58% of water saturation was 9.8×10-6 m/s, suggesting that the gas could migrate fast through the buffer medium in the SNF repository site. Identification of the hydraulic property for the buffer medium, acquired through these experimental measurements is very rare and is considered to have high academic values. Experimental results from this study were used as input parameter values for the numerical modeling to simulate the long-term gas migration in the buffer zone and to evaluate the feasibility of the buffer material, controlling the radionuclide-gas migration in the SNF repository site.

        Safe management of spent nuclear fuel (SNF) is a key issue to determine sustainability of current light water reactor (LWR) fleet. However, none of the countries are actually conducting permanent disposal of SNFs yet. Instead, most countries are pursuing interim storage of spent nuclear fuels in dry cask storage system (DCSS). These dry casks are usually made of stainlesssteels for resistibility against cracking and corrosion, which can be occurred over a long-term storage period. Nevertheless, some corrosion called Chloride-Induced Stress Corrosion Cracking (CISCC) can arise in certain conditions, exacerbating the lifetime of dry casks. CISCC can occur if the three conditions are satisfied simultaneously: (i) residual tensile stress, (ii) material sensitization, and (iii) chloride-rich environment. A residual tensile stress is developed by the two processes. One is the bending process of stainless-steel plates into a cylindrical shape, and the other is the welding process, which can incur solidification-induced stress. These stresses provide a driving force of pit-to-crack transition. Around the fusion weld areas, chromium is precipitated at the grain boundary as a carbide form while it depletes chromium around it, leading to material susceptible to pitting corrosion. It is called sensitization. Finally, coastal regions, where nuclear power plants usually operate, tend to have a higher relative humidity and more chloride concentration compared to inland areas. This high humidity and chloride ion concentration initiate pitting corrosion on the surface of stainless-steels. To prevent initiation of CISCC, at least one of the three conditions should be removed. For this, several surface engineering techniques are under investigation. One of the most promising approaches is surface peening method, which is the process that impacts the surface of materials with media (e.g., small pins, balls, laser pulse). By this impact, plastic deformation on the surface occurs with compressive stress that counteracts with pre-existing residual tensile stress, so this approach can prevent pit-to-crack transition of stainless-steels. Also, cold spray deposition can prevent CISCC. Cold spray deposition is a method of spraying fine metal powder to a substrate by accelerating them to supersonic velocity with propellant gas. As a result, a thin coating composed of the feedstock powders can protect the substrate from outer corrosive environments. In addition, the impact of the feedstock powder on the substrate during the process provides compressive stress, similar to the peening method.

        High-strength low-alloy steel is one of the widely used materials in onshore and offshore plant engineering. We investigated the alloying effect of solute atoms in α-Fe based alloy using ab initio calculations. Empirical equations were used to establish the effect of alloying on the Vicker’s hardness, screw energy coefficient, and edge dislocation energy coefficient of the steel. Screw and edge energy coefficients were improved by the addition of V and Cr solute atoms. In addition, the addition of trace quantities of V, Cr, and Mn enhanced abrasion resistance. Solute atoms and contents with excellent mechanical properties were selected and their thermal conductivity and thermal expansion behavior were investigated. The addition of Cr atom is expected to form alloys with low thermal conductivity and thermal expansion coefficient. This study provides a better understanding of the state-of-the-art research in low-alloy steel and can be used to guide researchers to explore and develop α-Fe based alloys with improved properties, that can be fabricated in smart and cost-effective manners.

        함정의 전투관리체계나 민간의 스마트 시티와 같은 많은 센서와 동작기기가 연결된 체계에서는 주로 미들웨어인 DDS(Data Distribution Service)를 사용하여 대규모의 데이터를 전송하고 향후 센서나 장비 증가에 대해 효과적으로 대응하고 있다. 선박에서 함정의 전투관리체계(Combat Management System, CMS)와 같은 역할을 하는 중요한 제어체계인 통합기관감시제어체계(Engineering Control System, ECS)는 여전히 Server-Client 모델을 기반으로 산업용 프로토콜(Modbus, CAN(Controller Area Network) bus 등)을 사용하여 데이터를 전송하고 있어 확장성 측면에서 불리하다. 따라서 향후 자동화나 무인화가 진행될 경우에 많은 센서류가 추가될 것이며 이는 많은 프로그램 수정 소요가 발생하게 되며, DDS는 이러한 상황에서 좋은 해결책이 될 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 전투관리체계에서 사용 중인 미들웨어인 DDS 중에서 OMG(Object Management Group) 표준을 따르는 OpenDDS를 활용하여 선박의 통합기관감시제어체계의 개발 가능성을 확인하였다. 이를 위해 필드장비 시뮬레이터 및 ECS 서버를 구성하여 DDS를 이용한 필드장비 데이터 입출력 시뮬레이션을 수행하였다. 개발한 ECS 축소모형은 데이터를 발간-구독하는데 문제가 없으며, DDS가 선박 ECS의 미들웨어로 충분히 사용할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

        The advent of big data has brought about the need for analytics. Natural language processing (NLP), a field of big data, has received a lot of attention. Topic modeling among NLP is widely applied to identify key topics in various academic journals. The Korean Society of Industrial and Systems Engineering (KSIE) has published academic journals since 1978. To enhance its status, it is imperative to recognize the diversity of research domains. We have already discovered eight major research topics for papers published by KSIE from 1978 to 1999. As a follow-up study, we aim to identify major topics of research papers published in KSIE from 2000 to 2022. We performed topic modeling on 1,742 research papers during this period by using LDA and BERTopic which has recently attracted attention. BERTopic outperformed LDA by providing a set of coherent topic keywords that can effectively distinguish 36 topics found out this study. In terms of visualization techniques, pyLDAvis presented better two-dimensional scatter plots for the intertopic distance map than BERTopic. However, BERTopic provided much more diverse visualization methods to explore the relevance of 36 topics. BERTopic was also able to classify hot and cold topics by presenting ‘topic over time’ graphs that can identify topic trends over time.

        In this paper, seismic performance evaluation was carried out for eight circular reinforced concrete columns designed seismically by KRTA[1]and KCI[8]. Primary design parameters for such columns included many longitudinal reinforcements, yield strength of reinforcements, the vertical spacing of spirals, aspect ratio, and axial force ratio. The test results showed that all the columns exhibited stable hysteretic and inelastic responses. Based on the test results, drift ratios corresponding to each damage state, such as initial yielding, initial cover spalling, initial core concrete crushing, buckling, and fracture of longitudinal reinforcement and final spalled region, were evaluated. Then, those ratios were compared with widely accepted damage limit states. The comparison revealed that the existing damage states were considerably conservative. This implies that additional research is required for the damage limit states of such columns designed seismically by current Korean design codes.

        본 연구의 목적은 공학설계 기반 오션 클린업 수업이 STEAM 태도와 창의공학적 문제해결성향에 미치는 영향 을 알아보는 것이다. 또한 이 과정에서 학생들이 공학설계 기반 수업에서 접하는 흥미로운 점을 파악하고자 하였다. 본 연구에서는 공학설계를 전공한 교수 1명과 석사 이상의 공학설계 전문가 5명이 함께 공학설계를 기반으로 한 6차시의 과학수업을 개발하여 검토하였다. 수업의 주제는 실제 오션 클린업 프로젝트에서 구현된 방법을 기반으로 해양 오염을 줄이기 위한 과학 및 공학적 해결과정의 설계 및 구현으로 선정되었다. 공학설계 과정은 NGSS(2013)에서 제시한 공학 설계 모형을 활용하였으며, 최적화 과정을 통해 재설계를 경험할 수 있도록 구성하였다. 효과를 검증하기 위해 Park et al.(2019)이 개발한 STEAM 태도 설문지 및 Kang and Nam(2016)이 개발한 창의공학적 문제해결성향 검사 도구를 사 용하였다. 효과성 검정을 위한 통계분석을 위해 사전 및 사후 t-검정을 사용하였다. 또한, 학습자가 경험한 흥미로운 점 의 내용은 기술적인 응답을 받아 전사하고, 중심도 분석을 통해 분석 및 시각화하였다. 결과는 과학 수업에서 공학설계 기반 오션 클린업 수업이 STEAM 태도와 창의공학적 문제해결성향 모두에 긍정적인 영향을 미친다는 것을 확인하였다 (p< .05). 또한, 비정형 데이터 분석 결과, 학습자가 학습에 관심을 갖는 요인으로 이공계 지식, 공학적 경험, 협동과 협 업이 나타나 공학적 경험이 중심 요인임을 확인하였다.

        본 논문에서는 최근 4차 산업혁명을 통해 최신 ICT 기술을 접목하여 대한민국의 항만, 해운, 조선 및 기자재 산업이 물샐틈없는 완 벽 공조를 통한 가치 사슬, Seamless Value Chain이 Smart Seamless Value Chain 성공적인 구축을 위한 산업 간의 협력관계를 정의하 고, 이들 산업의 지속 가능한 발전을 위한 핵심 요소가 무엇인지를 고찰해 보았다. 이를 통해 오늘날 디지털화를 통한 탈탄소화를 실현 하여 ESG 경영 달성을 위한 방향도 제시하였다. 그리고 특히 중소기업의 관점에서 미래시장을 대응하기 위한 방안으로서의 디지털 화의 중요성과, 특히 중소 기자재 업체가 실현하는 디지털 화가 산업계 전반에서 어떤 역할을 하는지 중점적으로 고찰하였다. 이를 통 해 산업 간의 연계 상태와 가치 사슬이 원활한 관계를 반드시 유지해야할 필요 사유를 동시에 보여준다. 그리고 대한민국의 산업에서 얻은 실패 사례를 통한 교훈으로 발판 삼아 향후 지능형 연결의 전략적 통로를 만드는 초석을 구축하는 방향성도 제시하였다.
