        The critical micelle concentration (CMC) at which micelles start to form from a surfactant solution is usually measured in terms of conventional concentration units. However, the thermodynamic potentials are expressed in terms of mole fraction XCMC and XCMC cannot be directly measured experimentally. The Gibbs free energy, δG*mic, in particular is related to XCMC through δG*mic = RTlnXCMC. When it comes to CMC, the molar CMC, CCMC, differs only by the proportionality C-1w with Cw being the molarity of water. Hence, CCMC is found to be a proper representation of CMC. However, in calculation of δG*mic and other thermodynamic potentials from the CMC, XCMC or CCMC/Cw should be used.

        Gamma irradiation at 20 kGy was applied to Kanjang (soy sauce), Doenjang (soybean paste), Kochujang (hot pepper paste) and Chungkukjang for their possible genotoxicity The genotoxicity of 20 kGy-irradiated samples was evaluated by Salmonella typhimurlum reversion assay. The Salmonella tester strains included TA98, TA100, TA1535 and TA1537 in the absence and presence of an exogenous metabolizing system (S9 mix). All samples were negative in the bacterial reversion assay with S. typhimurium TA98, TA100, TA1535 and TA1537. The results indicated that 20 kGy of gamma irradiation on water-soluble fraction of Kanjang, Doenjang, Kochujang and Chungkukjang were not shown mutagenicity.

        The fabrication process and mechanical properties of SiC particle prefrrms with high volume fraction ranged 50∼71% were investigated to make metal matrix composites for possible applications as heat sinks in electronic packares. The SiC particle preforms with 50∼71vol% of reinforcement were fabricated by a new modified process named ball milling and pressing method. The SiC particle performs were fabricated by ball milling of SiC particles with single sized of 48m in diameter or two different size of 8m and 48min diameter, with collodal SiO2 as inorgnic binder in distilled water, and the mixed slurries were cold pressed for consolidation into final prefom. The compressive strengths og calcined SiC particle prefoms increased from 20MPa to 155MPa with increasing the content of inorganis binder, temperature and time for calcination. The increase of compressive strength of SiC particle bridge the interfaces of two neighboring SiC particles.

        There are several models for process quality assurance by quality system(ISO 9000), process capability analysis, acceptance control chart and so on. When a high level process capability has been achieved, it takes a long time to monitor the process shift, so it is sometimes necessary to develop a quicker monitoring system. To achieve a quicker quality assurance model for high-reliability process, this paper presents a model for process quality assurance when the fraction nonconforming is very small. We design an acceptance control chart based on variable quality characteristic and time-censored accelerated testing. The distribution of the characteristics is assumed to be normal of lognormal with a location parameter of the distribution that is a linear function of a stress. The design parameters are sample size, control limits and sample proportions allocated to low stress. These parameters are obtained under minimization of the relative variance of the MLE of location parameter subject to APL and RPL constraints.

        The fabrication process and properties of SiC particulate preforms with high volume fraction above 50% were investigated. The SiC particulate preforms were fabricated by vacuum-assisted extraction method after wet mixing of SiC particulates of 48 in diameter, as inorganic binder, cationic starch as organic binder and polyacrylamide as dispersant in distilled water. The SiC particulate preforms were consolidated by vacuum-assisted extraction, and were followed by drying and calcination. The drying processes were consisted with natural drying at for 36 hrs and forced drying at 10 for 12 hrs in order to prevent the micro-cracking of SiC particulates preform. The compressive strengths of SiC particulate preforms were dependent on the inorganic binder content, calcination temperature and calcination time. The compressive strength of SiC preform increased from 0.47 MPa to 1.79 MPa with increasing the inorganic binder content from 1% to 4% due to the increase of flocculant between the interfaces of SiC particulates. The compressive strength of SiC preform increased from 0.90 MPa to 3.21 MPa with increasing the calcination temperatures from 800 to 120 under identical calcination time of 4hrs. The compressive strength of SiC preform increased from 0.92 to 1.95 MPa with increasing the calcination time from 2 hrs to f hrs at calcination temperature of 110. The increase of compressive strength of SiC preform with increasing the calcination temperature and time is due to the formation of crystobalite phase at the interfaces of SiC particulates.

        The effect of / phase on the mechanical properties and contact damage of silicon nitrides ) was investigated. Silicon nitride materials were prepared from two starting powders, at selective increasing hot-pressing temperatures to coarsen the microstructures: (i) from relatively coarse -phase powder, essentially equiaxed - grains, with limited, slow transformation to - grain; (ii) from relatively fine -phase powder, a more rapid transformation to -, with attendant grain elongation. The resulting micro-structure thereby provided a spectrum of / phase ratios, grain sizes, and grain shapes. Fracture strength, hardness, and toughness were measured, and contact damage and strength degradation after indentation were investigated by Hertzian indentation using spherical indenter. A brittle to ductile transition in depended on / phase ratio as well as grain size. Silicon nitride with elongated grains showed a superior, contact damage resistance.

        In order to predict droplet velocity and temperature profiles and fractional solidification with flight distance during spray forming, the Newtonian heat transfer formulation has been coupled with the classical heterogeneous nucleation and the specific solidification process. It has been demonstrated that the thermal profile of the droplet in flight is significantly affected by process parameters such as droplet size, initial gas velocity, undercooling. As the droplet size and/or the initial gas velocity increase, the onset and completion of solidification are shifted to greater flight distances and the solidification process also extends over a wider range of flight distances. The amounts of solid fractions formed during recoalescence, segregated solidification and eutectic solidification are insensitive to droplet size and initial gas velocity whereas those are strongly affected by the degree of undercooling. There are good linear relations between the undercooling and the corresponding solid fractions generated during recoalesced, segregated and eutectic stages.

        초 록 보리흰가루병(Erysiphe graminis hordei race I)에 의한 대맥엽침입부에 항균성 형광화세포를 유도하는 물질의 추출분획을 얻기 위하여 실험을 실시한 결과 분생포자의 ethanol 추출분획이 형광화세포의 유도활성을 가지고 있음이 밝혀졌다. 이 분획은 비친화성인 Turkey 290품종에나 친화성품종에나 마찬가지로 형광화세포 유도활성을 나타냈으나 그 유도에 요하는 시간은 Turkey 290에서 8시간 이내 Kobingataki에서 16시간이내이었다.

        천연미백소재를 개발하기 위하여 대산(마늘)을 포함한 총 10종의 약용식물 혼합물을 발효하여 얻은 발효물로부터 tyrosinase inhibition 활성을 확인하고, 이로부터 신규한 화합물 1종 외 3종의 활성 성분을 분리하였다. 마늘복합발효물의 영양성분 13항목을 분석하여 기능성 식품 소재로의 활용가능성을 확인하였다. 발효원액의 tyrosinase 저해효과는 88.6%로 나타났고, 활성성분의 분리를 위하여 EtOAc, n-BuOH 및 H2O로 분배, 추출하였다. 이중 수득률이 가장 높은 EtOAc 분획물(47g)로부터 silica gel 및 ODS column chromatography를 반복하면서 TLC 와 효소저해 효과로부터 확인한 활성분획을 순차적으로 분리하였다. 화합물의 화학구조를 NMR 및 MS 등의 스펙트럼으로 분 석한 결과 phenylpropanoid류의 신규 화합물인 2,4,5- trihydroxy-benzenepropanoic acid (1) (1.9 ㎎) 및 화합물 1과 동량으로 혼재하는 2,3,5-trihydroxy-benzenepropanoic acid (2)를 확인하였다. 이외에 2,4-dihydroxy-hydrocinnamic acid (3) (3.3 ㎎) 및 (+)sesamin (4) (6.1 ㎎)을 분리·동정하였다. 이 화합물들이 향후 본 조성물의 지표성분 및 기능성 성분으로 활 용된다면 기업에서의 원천기술 확보를 통한 제품개발과 산업화에 매우 유용할 것으로 사료된다.

        An application of an integrated climate extreme index (CEI) is presented, that quantifies observed climate change of South Korea by various five indicators. Based on an annual basis surface observation station data, climate extreme indicators that measure the fraction of the stations in South Korea are analyzed. Results for the annual CEI indicate that the area experiencing much above-normal maximum and minimum temperatures in recent years has been increased. The extremes in much greater-than-normal number of days with or without precipitation has a large interannual variability similar with much above and below normal standardized precipitation index. Results from above-normal proportion of heavy daily precipitation show a more pronounced increasing feature from 1990’s to the early 2010’s. Five indicators in CEI had distinct contrasting features which indicates that CEI can be a useful tool in providing the information on the percentage of the climate in South Korea that experienced various kinds of extreme conditions during any given year or period.

        This study was investigated to improve the phosphorus release and water quality by transformation of sedimentary P fraction for application of CaO2. For the experiment, 0.5% (w/w) of CaO2 was homogenized in the sediment and incubated with the control for 20 days. The analytical results showed that pH increased with CaO2 and redox potential (ORP) was improved in the sediment of the reactor. The growth rate of chlorophyll-a was lower in the CaO2 reactor and Dissolved Oxygen (DO) of overlying water maintained higher than that of the control. Total phosphorus (T-P) concentration in the overlying water increased from the initial concentration to 0.304mg/L in the control at 20 days. The reactor of CaO2 was lowered by 29.3%. Ex-P, Fe-P and Ca-P in sediment P fraction were increased with the CaO2. The formation of bound Fe-P and Ca-P in the sediments seemed to control the release of P by removing the Soluble Reactive Phosphorus (SRP) presented in the pore water. From the result, this indicated that the reduction of P release from the sediments seems to be effective in suppressing the eutrophication of P and improving the oxygen condition in the water quality with the application of CaO2.

        This paper describes the effect of steel fiber volume fraction and aspect ratio on mechanical properties of SFRC with compressive strength of 40 MPa. In this study, The fiber volume fractions consist of 0.25%, 0.50% and 0.75% and aspect ratios are 64 and 80 used. The prisms with 150×150×550 mm were made and tested in accordance with EN-14651. Test results show that the superior flexural performance was observed in SFRC with higher fiber volume fraction and aspect ratio.

        한련초는 열대 및 아열대 지방에 서식하는 국화과 한련초속에 속하는 한해살이풀로 간 손상에 대한 보호 효과, 살무사 독에 대한 해독효과, 항산화효과, 발모효과, 상처치유효과 등의 효능들이 확인된 바 있다. 더 나아가 본 연구에서는 한련초의 항산화 및 항노화효과를 확인하여 피부보호 소재로써의 가능성을 검토하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 한련초를 50% 에탄올로 추출한 추출물과 이를 다시 에틸아세테이트로 분획하여 얻은 분획물을 실험에 사용하였다. 항산화 지표인 FSC50과 OSC50을 측정한 결과, 에틸아세테이트 분획물의 OSC50은 항산화제로 잘 알려진 L-ascorbic acid 보다 2.7배 이상 뛰어난 것으로 나타났다. 이와 더불어 시료의 세포 내 활성산소 종 소거능과 H2O2로 유도된 세포손상에 대한 보호효과가 확인되었으며, 특히 1O2으로 유도된 사람 적혈구 광용혈에 대한 지연효과의 평가에서 64 μ g/mL의 에틸아세테이트 분획물이 적혈구 광용혈의 소요시간을 6배 이상 지연시켜 한련초의 우수한 항산화능을 반영해주었다. 한련초의 항노화 효과를 검증하기 위해 Hs68에서 추출한 엘라스타제에 대한 저해활성을 평가한 결과, 16 μ g/mL의 두 시료 모두 엘라스타제의 활성을 각각 6.8%와 14.0% 억제한 것을 확인하였다. 마지막으로 한련초가 식품 또는 화장품 등의 소재로 사용됨에 있어 화학적 방부제의 역할을 대체할 수 있을 가능성을 확인하기 위한 항균실험의 결과, 에틸아세테이트 분획물이 그람 양성 균주 인 Staphylococcus aureus에 대해 mehyl paraben과 동등하거나 더 뛰어난 항균활성을 가진 것을 확인하였다. 이상의 실험결과들을 통해 한련초는 피부보호 소재 또는 천연방부제로서의 가능성을 가진 천연소재라 생각되며, 식품 또는 화장품 소재로서의 이용이 기대된다.
