As directly imported apparel brands are actively entering the domestic market, studies of the marketing aspects of these imported apparel products and their overall consumption trend have been done. However, studies of whether are not the directly imported apparel products provide Korean consumers with an appropriate fit are not as common. Therefore, this study investigates the satisfaction with and problems associated with the fit along with the recognition of and preference for directly imported US apparel brands. 100 female college students who purchased directly imported US apparel brands participated in a survey. The results of this survey showed that their recognition of, preference for, possession rate of and satisfaction with the directly imported US apparel brands tend to be high. The major purchasing motivations were the excellent ‘design’ and ‘color’ of the products. The subjects reported that they were satisfied with the quality of ‘materials’ and ‘sewing condition’. However, they were not satisfied with the ‘comfort’ or the ‘size’. Their level of satisfaction with the fit of these products differed depending on the specific item. Their level of satisfaction with the fit of T-shirts and knits was high, whereas the level for pants was relatively low. They complained mostly about the sleeve length and garment length of upper-body garments and coats. They were not satisfied with how the pants fit. The areas of dissatisfaction regarding the pants were the waist girth, the crotch length and the pants length.

The purpose of this study was to investigate perceptions and globalization of Korean food among university students with food related majors. Self-administer questionnaires were completed by 386 students, and data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA and regression analysis. The students in food-related majors had positive perceptions of Korean food. They had perceptions of Korean foods as ‘fermented foods’, ‘seasonal foods’, and ‘medical foods’ and have ‘various spices’. Most students agreed that Korean foods need to be ‘creatively transformed’ and ‘localized’ in order to globalize successfully. Localization, fusion and creative transformation of Korean food are more important than simple adherence to traditional Korean food. There were statistically significant differences in perception between students in different majors. Students majoring in traditional Korean cuisine showed a more positive perception and attitude toward globalization of Korean food.

When globalizing Korean food, it is important to conduct regional consumer research before entering the market so that an effective market strategy can be developed. This study was conducted to compare the perceptions regarding Thai, Chinese, Japanese and Korean food between Swedish and Yugoslavian university students in Växjo, Sweden, where regional market research is lacking. As immigration increases worldwide, comparison of consumer perceptions of immigrants and domestic individuals will provide meaningful insight for use in the development of marketing strategies for areas where immigrant populations are increasing rapidly. In this study, six attributes of Asian food, fresh vegetables, low fat, chicken and sea food, exotic ingredient, value for money and unknown food, were compared. The perception of fresh vegetables and low fat of Chinese food differed significantly among the two groups. Because both of these attributes are health related, these findings indicate that recipe modification may be necessary to adapt to the preferred taste of target customers in this prospective market.

This article reports on research into self-directed English leaning of Korean university students, focusing on their motivation and metacognition. In general, university students in Korea undertake independent learning to improve their English competence outside the classroom, rather than relying on English courses provided by their universities. Although much of their English learning is self-directed, little has been known about how they carry out their out-of-class English learning. To obtain a better understanding of their self-directed learning, this study, employing a qualitative approach, analyzed reflective journals written by 25 university students during one semester. From the analysis, students’ motivation and metacognition emerged as important themes involved in the students’ self-directed learning. The findings of this study suggest that student motivation continuously ebbs and flows as a result of its complex interrelationship with contextual factors. In addition, it was found that students’ metacognitive knowledge played a crucial role in directing their out-of-class learning as students adopted learning strategies based on their metacognitive knowledge, which was again formed and revised in the course of their learning process. Finally, this article presents suggestions for promoting students’ self-directed English learning.

For globalization of Korean food, It is essential to research and analyze target markets in advance. However until recently, there has been a lack of food research in regions of select countries in order to create systematic plans for marketing Korean foods. Therefore this study aimed to investigate the recognition of Korean foods as compared to other Asian foods in young adults living in Vaxjo, Sweden. Over 90 percent of the Swedish students had experienced Thai and Chinese cuisines, indicating their popularity as Asian foods in Sweden. The participants were attracted to six positive attributes of Asian food: 'fresh vegetables', 'low fat', 'chicken and sea food', 'exotic ingredients', 'good value for the money' and 'unknown foods'. The favorite type of Asian food was Thai food and Korean food was the least tried, as over 50% of respondents linked it to 'unknown food' attributes. Based on these results, in order to introduce Korean food more successfully, focus should be placed on the unique and unknown attributes of Korean food, as well as emphasis placed on its healthfulness, to stimulate the curiosity of target markets such as young Swedish adults.

Today, a lot of schools aim for open education and school. In the same context, Christian university can’t be equal to academy mission, building a high wall of a doctrine. As Paul confesses that I can do everything through him who gives me strength for the Gospel under any circumstances, Christian university must be open for the Gospel. Above all, open school is open for all students and must be always ready for a meeting. Open Christian school is to ask a meaning of life and to meet students asking a question of existence, receiving them with a open mind and help them welcome Jesus Christ in the Holy Spirit. This is possible to be one in the center of Christ. School personnels who work in Christian university are to serve faithfully. They must take part in the faith training program actively and positively as ripe christians. Students who work in missionary organizations and christian groups have to cooperate each other in university. Because of spiritual superiority and arrogance of faith, we must not be separated and repeat past mistakes. On the contrary, we must receive in a humble way the comment that missionary organizations were a obstacle to academy mission. In the case of a part of missionary organizations, officials and core members used to build a wall and blame a church. And so, we have to improve this negative attitude. When members in campus as a God people have to cooperate each other and live in a place of life as the witness of the Gospel, the future of the campus mission will be better and brighter. We will get the vision of the future, conversing past history with present situation. First, we will examine the missionary history of christian university briefly and diagnose the situation of campus mission. On the basis of this diagnosis, we should present several important tasks to practice for mission. This paper will give a direction of campus mission with a limitation of research range. We will examine this paper in the center of Jeonju University .

The present study investigated the relationships between acculturation and English learning among Korean students at an American university. A survey was conducted with 115 students whose first language is Korean. Data was collected through an acculturation questionnaire, self perceived Korean and English proficiency questionnaire and background questionnaire. ANOVA, Post Hoc Tests, Group comparison and multiple regression were used to analyze the data. The majority of students in the survey chose bicultural adaptation as their strategy for acculturation and did not lose Korean cultural identity although some of them exhibited linguistic assimilation. In the four group comparisons based on acculturation types, students in a high bicultural tendency group reported the greater level of English proficiency. The results of multiple regression showed that students’ age of arrival in the U.S, their level of American acculturation, and gender (male), were important predictors of their English proficiency. Different from the assimilation theory in second language acquisition both integration into American society and positive acceptance of Korean culture and identity seemed to be important processes for their achievement of successful English learning as well as for their successful acculturation. In conclusion, the pedagogical implication of the finding and future research were suggested.

This qualitative study was designed to understand a role of culture on the experiences of Korean study abroad graduate students who tried to adjust to the U.S. academic and social life. Data was collected by semi-structured interviews and analyzed by the inductive process to identify analytical categories that emerged from the data. Three participants decided to go to a U.S. college in order to have an efficient learning environment, financial support, and career after schooling. They were satisfied with the factors that motivated them to study abroad as well as the American’s attitudes and observance of the rules. However, they experienced frustrations and difficulties in classrooms and in social settings due to limited English proficiency, the lack of familiarity with the American learning environment, and certain American’s unfair treatment. They developed strategies to cope with the difficulties and succeed at the university. The present study also revealed that the participants’experiential backgrounds played a crucial role in their perceptions of their own experiences in the U.S. The students acknowledged that there are cultural differences between two countries that were grounded in all findings of the research and those differences affected their attitudes and behaviors throughout the study and their stay in the U.S.

The purposes of this paper are to report the English proficiency of Korean university students through TOEIC test, and to suggest feasible ways to improve their communicative competence. A total of one thousand and forty-two sophomore students who took the Practical English course participated in this study. The data based on TOEIC scores were analyzed and the major findings revealed that: (1) Although students had slightly higher scores on the written language sections than on the spoken language parts, they had the lowest scores in the grammar section; (2) The total listening comprehension scores were significantly correlated with the total reading scores; (3) There was a high positive correlation between students’ proficiency level and their scores; (4) Multiple regression analysis showed that part 3 (short conversations) influenced significantly on the total listening part, while part 6 (grammar) had a significant effect on the total reading part. In conclusion, these findings contribute to the emerging picture of what constitutes a successful language learner by proposing a more refined model based on Willis’. In conclusion, the results of this study offer several suggestions for language teaching professionals as providers of effective instruction of communication strategies for enhancing the development of communicative competence.
