        To find best humidity condition for the use of Beauveria ARP14 against Grapholita molesta (Busck), first instar of G. molesta was treated with three conidial concentrations (1×107, 1×108, and 1×109 conidia/ml) in three different relative humidities (RH; 55, 75, and 95%). Mortality varied depending on concentration and humidity. Mortality in 95% RH was 1.5 and 2.7 times higher than 75 and 52% humidity at 1×109 conidia/ml and 16 hours after the exposure. However, the mycosis rates after 14 days were all not different among the treatments. In conclusion B. bassiana ARP14 could be most effective when applied higher at RH condition.

        약제 처리에 따른 담배거세미나방(Spodoptera litura) 유충의 섭식 행동 및 반응을 조사하기 위해 1분 간격으로 잎면적을 자동 측정하였다. 담배거세미나방 유충의 섭식 행동은 섭식기와 비섭식기가 뚜렷하게 구분되었으며, 섭식기가 끝나면 비섭식기를 거쳐 탈피를 하고 다시 섭식기에 들어갔다. 1회 섭식 지속 시간은 약 15분으로 조사되었고, 영기 내 평균 섭식 회수는 약 27.5회로 섭식 지속 시간과 마찬가지로 영기에 따른 차이는 없었다. 약제 처리는 피망 잎을 Buprofezin methoxyfenozyd과 BT (Bacillus thuringiensis) 500ppm 약액에 10초간 침지 처리하였다. Buprofezin methoxyfenozyd를 처리 하였을 경우 섭식 시간은 평균 8~9분으로 감소하였고, 치사 전까지 섭식량은 각각 176mg으로 조사되었다. 하지만 BT제를 처리 시에는 담배거세미나방 유충은 치사하지 않았다.

Since the lack of food,BSF larva didn’t grow more than the pig carcass feed group, extra in 6kg of pig feces feed. Amount pig feces take12.35kg decomposition during 32 days. Manure make 4.2kg.

        This study aimed to assess fatty acid composition and anti-inflammatory effects, such as nitric oxide(NO) production, expression of TNF-α and interleukin-6(IL-6), of Tenebrio molitor larva using RAW 264.7 cells. The content of total fatty acid in Tenebrio molitor larva was 76.14%, which was composed of oleic acid(42.12%), linoleic acid(32.67%) etc. There was no cytotoxicity at a dose level of 0.1, 1.0, 10, and 100 μg/mL of freeze dried Tenebrio molitor larva ethanol extract(FDTEtOH) on RAW 264.7 cells. FDTEtOH significantly decreased NO production in LPS(lipopolysaccharide)- stimulated RAW 264.7 cells in a dose-dependent manner. Also, FDTEtOH dose-dependently suppressed the expression of TNF- α and IL-6. Thus, these results showed that Tenebrio molitor larva has the potential to be used as an anti-inflammatory food to improve immunity.

        This study investigated the effect on body length, body width, body weight and mortality of larva white-spotted flower chafers(Protaetia brevitarsis seulensis) that the feeds as a secondary feed aloe, apple, banana, persimmon and sweet pumpkin being sold on the market. Weight of larvae increased the most in a sweet pumpkin 2,966 mg, and was followed by banana and persimmon. Weight increased in the aloe the control as the lowest in 2,179 ~ 2,127 mg. It fed the sweet pumpkin showed the highest cumulative increase of 240% in the body length then the persimmon was a cumulative increase of 232%. It fed the sweet pumpkin showed the highest cumulative increase of 254% in the body width and the lowest cumulative increase of 232% was the control. It fed the sweet pumpkin showed the highest cumulative increase of 240% in the body weight then the persimmon, banana, apple in order. Mortality showed most of the high mortality rate of 19.8% in the sweet pumpkin and apple and banana and the lowest mortality rate showed a mortality rate of 13.2% in the control. Although these results sweet pumpkin, persimmon and banana are expected higher utilization as a secondary feed, it should be reviewed in various feeding ways how to reduce the changes of the artificial breeding environment.

        본 연구는 4일간 절식을 통해 배변을 하지 않고 먹이 급이 에 따른 흰점박이꽃무지 유충의 일반성분, 지방, 아미노산 등 을 분석하였다. 먹이 급이에 따른 체중감소는 호박, 알로에 쌀 겨, 절식 순으로 각각 0, 2.8, 15, 27% 나타났다. 조단백질 함 량은 50.7 ~ 55.4%, 지방함량의 분포는 16.1 ~ 18.5% 쌀겨 급 이 한 것이 가장 높게 나타났다. 전체 지방산 함량 중 불포화 지방산은 75.5 ~ 76.4%로 나타났으며, 알로에 급이가 76.4%로 가장 높게 나타났다. 구성아미노산 조성에서 필수아미노산의 36%, 비필수아미노산이 34%로 나타났다. 총 polyphenol 함량 은 쌀겨, 알로에, 호박, 절식 순으로 각각 23.57, 23.38, 23.05, 22.70 mg g−1으로 나타났다. ABTS DPPH radical 소거활성은 쌀겨를 급이한 흰점박이꽃무지 유충에서 각각 17.94 mgTE g−1, 2.00 mgTE g−1 가장 높게 나타났다. 흰점박이꽃무지 유충 명 도를 나타내는 L 값은 호박을 급이한 것이 72.3로 알로에를 급이한 것이 64.7, 쌀겨를 급이한 것이 58.3, 급이를 하지 않 은 것은 44.3으로 호박을 급이한 것이 가장 밝게 나타났으며, 급이를 하지 않은 것이 가장 어둡게 나타났다.

        개맥문동(Liriope spicata (Thunb.))이 검정주머니나방(Mahasena aurea (Butler))의 새로운 기주식물로 처음으로 확인되었기에 보고한다. 또한 본 연구를 통해 본 종의 유충과 암컷이 우리나라에서는 처음으로 채집되었다. 이들의 암컷과 수컷에 대한 외부형태적 특징을 재기재함과 동시에 수컷생식기, 성충, 애벌레, 번데기 등의 특징을 도해하여 제시하였다.

        Cynegetis impunctata (Linnaeus, 1767), a phytophagous lady beetle, was recorded in South Korea for the first time recently. Previously, only the adult form of this species had been described. In this study, we provide a redescription of the adult and the first descriptions of the larva and pupa. Diagnostic characters for this species are given, and intraspecific color variation in Cynegetis impunctata adults is discussed.

        열대와 아열대 지역에서는 모기로 인한 질병이 상습적으 로 전파되고 있다. 하지만 최근 기후변화로 인해 말라리아, 뎅구열, 황열병 등의 분포 지역이 열대와 아열대를 넘어 확 산되고 있는데, 이 질병들은 모기를 통해 인간에게 전파된 다. 오랫동안 이러한 질병 및 가려움을 유발하는 모기의 수를 줄이기 위해 퇴치기구, 식물의 추출물, 자생어류, 파장, 살충 제 등에 대한 연구가 꾸준히 이루어지고 있다. 본 실험에서 는 모기 유충인 장구벌레를 생태학적으로 제어하기 위해 자연 상태와 유사한 인공수조 34개에서 식물의 피도와 높이 를 다양하게 조합하여 모기 유충의 수를 관찰하였다. 각 수 조에서 뜰채로 1회 3번씩 채집된 장구벌레의 수를 기록하였 으며 3회 반복하였다. 장구벌레의 수는 식물의 피도가 41~60%인 지점에서 평균 2.26마리로 가장 많았고, 식물체 높이가 0~9cm인 곳에서 0.85마리로 가장 많았다. 본 연구 결과 식물의 피도가 60%이상이거나 높이가 10cm 이상인 곳에서는 장구벌레가 발견되지 않았다.

        Commercial Larva Zophobus atratus is sed as pet food, sold in pet stores under the name‘giant mealworms’. Zophobus atratus is also considered for the human alterative food in the future. In this study, we are aimed to compare the effects of the supplements including agricultural by-product for commercial Larva Zophobas atratus. One hundred Zophobas atratus larvae were divided into group I (wheat bran 100%, N=20), group II (wheat bran 70 % and rice bran 30%), group III (wheat bran 70 % and soybean meal 30%), group IV (wheat bran 70 % and red ginseng meal 30%), group V (wheat bran 70 % and red perilla meal 30%). The body weights of commercial Larva Zophobas atratus were significantly improved in the agricultural by-products supplemented groups. From these results, it is considered that the agricultural by-products were effective for larval growth in Zophobus atratus rearing with alternative diet.

        The Asian honeybee, Apis cerana, is a native honeybee species in Korea which is important in agriculture for pollination and honey production. For better understanding of the physiology of A. cerana, high-throughput Illumina transcriptome sequencing was performed to analyze the gene expression profiles of queen, worker and larva. A total of 219,799,682 clean reads corresponding to 22.2Gb of nucleotide sequences was obtained from the whole body total RNA samples. The Apis mellifera reference mRNA sequence database was used to measure the gene expression level with Bowtie2 and eXpress software and the Illumina short reads were mapped to 11,459 out of 11,736 A. mellifera reference genes. Total of 9,221 genes with FPKM value greater than 5 of each sample group were subjected to evolutionary genealogy of genes: Non-supervised Orthologous Groups (eggNOG) with BLASTX for gene ontology analysis. The differential gene expression between queen and worker, and worker and larva were analyzed to screen the overexpressed genes in each sample group. in the queen and worker sample group, total of 1,766 genes were differentially expressed with 887 and 879 genes overexpressed over two folds in queen and worker, respectively. In the worker and larva sample group, total of 1,410 genes were differentially expressed with 1,009 and 401 genes overexpressed over two folds in worker and larva, respectively.

        Hemocytes are key players in the immune response against pathogens in insects. However, the hemocyte types and their functions in the white-spotted flower chafers, Protaetia brevitarsis seulensis (Kolbe), are not known. In this study, we used various microscopes, molecular probes, and flow cytometric analyses to characterize the hemocytes in Protaetia brevitarsis seulensis. we identified the professional phagocytes, granulocytes (GRs), which mediate encapsulation and phagocytosis of pathogens. The GRs were immunologically or morphologically activated and phagocytosed potentially hazardous substances in vivo.

        Tenebrio 모델은 Tribolium과 비교하여 실험실에서 배양 및 조작하기가 쉬운 생물 종이다. 하지만 현재까지는 해독되어진 유전체 정보가 그리 많지 않다. Mycoplasma genus는 세포벽이 없으며 사람에서 pneumonia 나 다른 호흡기 질환을 일으키는 박 테리아로 본 연구에서는 갈색거저리 유충을 이용하여 Mycoplasma genus와 유사 한 acholeplasma lysate를 처리하여 접종 전과 후의 비교 전사체학적 방법을 통하여 선천성 면역 관련 유전자들을 동정하고 기능 분석을 위한 기초 데이터를 확보 하고 자 하였다. 갈색거저리 유충에 acholeplasma lysate를 처리하기 전과 후의 각 샘플 들로부터 cDNA library를 구축한 후 random sequencing 을 통해 해독 되어진 염기 서열들을 비교 분석 하였다. 얻어진 서열들로부터 NCBI nr 데이터베이스에 Blastx 분석을 하여 획득한 서열들을 생물정보학적 방법을 이용하여 비교한 결과, 곤충의 선천성면역(innate Immunity)에 중요한 것으로 알려진 serpin 관련 유전자들이 약 5종류 동정되었다. Serpin (XP_974209.1) 의 경우 acholeplasma에 처리하여 전과 후 비교하였을 때, 약 3배 정도 증가를 나타내었고, serpin 6 (XP_972660.1)의 경우 에는 acholeplasma를 처리한 샘플에서만 동정되었다. 또한 serpin 3a (XP_969874.1), serpin 1(BAI59109.1), serpin 40(BAI59106.1) 등의 유전자들도 동정되었다. 추후 이러한 유전자들을 대상으로 한 기능연구를 통하여 보다 구체적인 면역기능을 구 명하고자 한다.

        Serine protease는 병원체의 표면 melanization, hemolymph coagulation, antimicrobial peptide synthesis 등을 통해 여러 무척추동물의 방어기작을 조절하는것으로 알려 져 있다. 곤충의 경우 Tribolium을 대상으로 이와 같은 연구가 이루어져 왔지만, 혈 액의 량이 그리 많지 않아 연구자들은 최근 갈색거저리(Tenebrio)를 이용하기 시작 하였다. 하지만 아직 유전체(자) 서열정보가 충분하지 않은 상황이다. 본 연구에서 는 이러한 갈색거저리 유충을 이용하여 세포벽이 없으며 사람에서 pneumonia나 다른 호흡기 질환을 일으키는 mycoplasma 와 유사한 acholeplasma lysate를 처리 한 후 접종 전과 후의 전사체의 비교를 통하여 무척추 동물에서의 선천성 면역 관련 유전자들을 동정하고자 하였다. Acholeplasma lysate를 처리하기 전과 후의 각 샘 플들로부터 cDNA library를 구축한 후 random sequencing 을 통해 염기서열을 분 석하였고, 얻어진 서열들로부터 NCBI nr 데이터베이스에 Blastx 분석을 하여 획득 한 서열들을 comparative transcriptomic 방법을 이용하여 분석한 결과, 여러 종류 의 Serine protease 관련 유전자들이 동정되었다. Serine protease (XP_970766.1)의 경우에는 acholeplasma를 처리한 샘플에서 2배 정도 발현이 증가하였고, serine protease P66 (EFA09207.1)의 경우 증감의 변화는 보이지 않았다. 또한 serine protease P146 (EFA04636.1), serine protease H1 (EEZ99180.1) 등의 유전자들도 동정되어 연구하고 있다.

        Ascotis selenaria is one of most important pest of geometridae moths in citrus orchards causing citrus fruit damages in jeju, Korea. Oviposition site had not been found on citrus tree, but was witnessed at the net adjacent of vinyl covering a green house in 2007. And then, A. selenaria larva highly clumped on the citrus(Shiranui : [C. unshiu × C. sinenesis] × C. reticulata) tree near the oviposition site and the ID(Index of Dispersion) value was 6.81. However, dispersion of A. selenaria larva was not clearly clumped in field citrus(C. unshiu) during 2008 and 2010. The value of GI(Green’s index) was 0.0179, 0.0208, and 0.0064, respectively. Those were so low that A. selenaria larva were distributed almost randomly in field citrus orchard. Consequently, it was assumed that A. selenaria female oviposited on a tree like Cryptomeria japonica surrounding a citrus orchard in field and hatched larva moved to citrus tree by drifting with winds.

        The aims of the present study were to estimate the possibility for toxicity test and compare acute toxicity of potassium dichromate in the larva stage of Neocaridina denticulata, Daphnia magna and the juvenile stage of Oryzias latipes. N. denticulate, a freshwater shrimp lives in Korea, is an indigenous species and considered to be useful for toxicity test. D. magna and O. latipes were recommended as a test species for the OECD test guideline. The 96 h-LC50 potassium dichromate value was 0.62 mg L-1 for the larva stage of N. denticulata and 168.44 mg L-1 for the juvenile stage of O. latipes. The 48 h-EC50 value was 1.27 mg L-1 for the D. magna. The study was confirmed higher sensitivity of the larva stage of N. denticulata to potassium dichromate compared to the D. magna and the juvenile stage of O. latipes.

        Teratocytes are originated from embryonic serosal membrane of some endoparasitoid wasps. Cotesia plutellae eggs release teratocytes in parasitoid host hemocoel at hatch in about 150 cells per egg. Teratocytes of C. plutellae were cultured in an insect culture medium for at least 14 days. Teratocytes cultured in vitro showed no increase in cell numbers but increased in cell size. Similarly,teratocytes in parasitized larvae did not increase cell numbers, but increased their cell size. Microinjection of invitro cultured teratocytes in to third instar larvae of nonparasitized Plutella xylostella showed a dose-dependently inhibitory effect on development and larval-pupal metamorphosis. In addition, teratocytes prolonged the immature developmental period and reduced the pupation rate, in which young aged host larvae were more sensitive to teratocytes treatment than old larvae. These results suggest that teratocytes play a crucial role in successful parasitization of C.plutellae by altering host developmental program.

        Parasitization by an endoparasitoid wasp, Cotesia plutellae, extends a larval period of Plutella xylostella and inhibits a larva-to-pupa metamorphosis. To determine antimetamorphic parasitic factor(s) in this host-parasitoid interaction, an effect of its symbiotic polydnavirus, Cotesia plutellae bracovirus (CpBV), was investigated by injecting purified virus particles to nonparasitized larvae of P. xylostella. Larvae injected with CpBV exhibited antimetamophosis in a viral dose-dependent manner. Also, the susceptibility to the viral injection was increased at young larval stages. Parasitized or virus-injected larvae shwed significant decrease in cell size of prothoracic gland and reduction in expression of ecdysone receptor (EcR) gene. However, they increased and maintained expression of insulin receptor (InR) gene. Twenty four CpBVsegments were individually injected to nonparasitized larvae. Only two segments (S22 and S27) had significant antimetamorphic effect. Subsequent RNA interference using double stranded RNA (dsRNA) was performed in each of encoded genes in each segment. Protein tyrosine phosphatase, ELP, and three hypothetical genes were determined to be antimetamorphic factors.

         ,  , This study was conducted to evaluate the scouting methods for larva and adults of the alfalfa weevil, Hypera postica Gyllenhal on Chinese milkvetch, Astragalus sinicus L. in the field. Three sampling methods, shake-bucket, shake-picking, and a sweeping net were evaluated for collecting alfalfa weevil larvae. We found significant differences among scouting methods and date in all survey fields. Sweep-net sampling was less able to detect small larvae than large larvae, which were not detected until early April whereas the shake-bucket, and shake-picking methods efficiently collected larvae from middle March. A Pitfall trap with three different baits - no bait, kidney bean seeds and sprouting kidney beans were compared for collection efficiency of alfalfa weevil adults. Collection efficiencies were significantly different by bait(p<, 0.018). Traps baited with sprouting kidney beans were the most efficient for collecting the alfalfa weevil. The number of alfalfa weevil caught was not significantly different between kidney bean seed and no bait in the pitfall trap. Therefore, the shake-bucket method for larvae and a pitfall trap baited with sprouting kidney beans for adults are recommended for scouting of the alfalfa weevil in a Chinese milkvetch field.

         ,  , Detailed morphological descriptions and illustrations of the last instar larva of Lilioceris (Lilioceris) ruficollis (Baly, 1865) with the host species, Dioscorea spp., are presented for the first time. Taxonomical and ecological remarks on their biology are also given herein.
