        In this study, controlling pattern gap was induced by deformation of the stretchable substrate. The pre-fabricated pattern was made by depositing an Au(gold) on the Si substrate, and PDMS(Polydimethylsiloxane) was used for the stretchable substrate in consideration of surface energy, formability, and viscoelastic characteristics. For uniform deformation of PDMS, it is manufactured in the form of a tensile specimen using a molding method. An external force is applied to the deformable substrate in the uni-axial direction using a self-manufactured JIG, and the Au thin film pattern is transferred to the substrate under tensile state. After that, the external force is removed, and the PDMS specimen is recovered to its initial state. At this time, it can be seen that the pre-fabricated pattern gap is shortened from the initial size due to the viscoelastic properties of the PDMS. As a result, it was characterized to deformation rate of the pattern gap according to elongation rate of PDMS.

        Purpose: This study investigated the effect of DPDMS on the oxygen permeability of contact lenses. Methods: The functional silicone monomers MPDMS [poly (dimethylsiloxane) methacrylate modified] were used and the hydrophilic monomers amino substituted methacrylate and HEMA (2-Hydroxyethyl methacrylate) were polymerized in proportions. Results: Oxgen transmissibility was measured in the range of 8.158 to 20.389 x 10-9 (cm/sec)( mlO2/ml x mmHg), and the oxygen permeability was measured in the range of 37.511 to 75.691 x 10-11(cm2/sec)(mlO2/ml x mmHg). As the addition ratio of MPDMS increased, the oxygen permeability increased. Conclusions: MPDMS is considered to be useful as a highly oxygen permeable contact lens material.

        Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) membranes were fabricated using a new class of UV-curable PDMS (UV-PDMS) and conventional heat-curable PDMS (Heat-PDMS) materials for n-butanol recovery. In addition, mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) were prepared using silicalite-1 particles as a additive to improve the recovery efficiency of n-butanol. To understand the structure-performance relationship, the surface/cross-sectional morphology and roughness of the PDMS membranes and MMMs were characterized using SEM and AFM, respectively. Consequently, when 20 % of silicalite-1 particles was loaded, the UV-curable MMM exhibited 58 % increased flux with similar separation factor compared to the heat-curable MMM, which is attributed to enlarged the effective membrane surface area resulting from its unique morphology.

        The purpose of this study was to introduce the toxicological study review to evaluate the safety of PDMS on the 69th JECFA meeting. Polydimethylsiloxane is a polymer and its ADI was established at 23rd JECFA meeting in 1979. The ADI was maintained although the specification was expanded at its 26th, 29 th, 37 th meetings. Recently, it was reported that PDMS with low molecular weight and viscosity has high absorption rate and different toxicity, so it was submitted at 69th meeting. Toxicological studies of PDMS were submitted from the sponsor and additional information is collected from a document searching. The toxicological studies were reviewed in accordance with the 'Guidelines for the preparation of toxicological working papers for the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives'. In the available acute, sub-chronic and chronic toxicity studies on PDMS, dose-related increases in incidence and severity of ocular lesions(corneal crystal, inflammation of the corneal epithelium etc.) were consistently observed after oral dosing. It seems to be a local irritant effect, but the mechanism by which the ocular lesions arose is unclear, although the lack of absorption of PDMS indicates that it is unlikely to be a direct systemic effect. Consequently, the relevance of the ocular lesions for food use of PDMS could not be determined. The ADI of PDMS was re-established from 0-1.5 mg/kg bw/day to 0-0.8 mg/kg bw/day by applying additional safety factor 2 based on its ocular toxicity. The result of 0-0.8 mg/kg bw/day is a temporary ADI until further data are provided to 2010.

        목적: 실리콘은 생체적합성과 기체투과성 등의 특성을 가지고 있어 의료용 목적으로 많이 사용되고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 콘택트렌즈에 적용 가능한 실리콘의 합성과 그 응용에 있다. 방법: HEMA(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate)를 사용하여 Acrylate-PDMS(Polydime-thylsiloxane) prepolymer를 합성하였다. 여기에 Phenyltrimethoxysilane을 비율별로 사용하였다. 촉매제로는 HCl를 사용하였으며, Na2CO3 수용액으로 촉매를 중화시켰다. 또한 DIW 제거를 위해 MgSO4를 사용하였다. 결과: FT-IR을 통하여 Poly Dimethylsiloxane에 Acrylate와 Phenyl이 Modification 되었음을 확인하였다. 결론: 합성된 Polydimethylsiloxane을 이용하여 기존의 친수성을 갖는 콘택트렌즈 재료와의 공중합을 통해 기능성 콘택트렌즈로 응용될 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

        폴리올레핀 산업에서 발생되는 올레핀 함유 배 가스(off-gas)에서 올레핀만을 선택적으로 분리하기 위해, 폴리디메틸실록산(Polydimethylsiloxane)계열의 막 소재들에 대한 올레핀과 질소의 투과특성을 연구하였다. 막 소재로는 가교 형태의 폴리디메틸실록산(Polydimethylsiloxane, 이하 PDMS라 칭함)막, 폴리실록산이미드(Polysiloxaneimide, 이하 PSI라 칭함)막, 아크릴변성 Oligo-PDMS가 부가된 Oligo-PDMS막들을 대상으로 공급기체의 온도(-20~50℃)와 압력(1∼25 atm)을 변화시키면서 에틸렌(C2H4), 프로필렌(C3H6), 부틸렌(C4H8), 질소(N2) 기체의 단일투과특성을 조사하였다. 실험결과, 사용되는 막소재의 특징에 따라 다양한 투과특성을 보였다. 세 가지 막소재중에서 PDMS막이 가장 넓은 사용압력범위에서 높은 에틸렌투과도 및 에틸렌/질소의 분리특성을 보였으며 이 막을 대상으로 여러 투과조건에서 투과특성을 연구하였다. 선택된 가교 PDMS막을 통한 올레핀, 질소 기체들의 투과도는 투과기체의 분자크기(확산도 선택성)보다, 투과기체의 응축온도(용해도 선택성)에 좌우되는 경향을 보였다. 공급기체의 온도가 감소하거나 압력이 증가할 때, 응축성 기체인 올레핀 기체의 투과도는 증가하고, 비응축성 기체인 질소는 감소하는 특징을 보였으며 이에 따라 올레핀/질소의 선택도가 크게 증가하는 특징을 보였다. 이러한 결과들은 고무상 고분자막에서 보여지는 응축성, 비응축성 기체들의 전형적인 투과특성을 보여준다.
