        For last couple of years many apartments, roads and bridges are constructed along the Kok-kyo stream which is penetrating Asan city, Chung-Nam Province. The effect of construction on stream environment was investigated in this study. Various kinds of water qualities of the Kok-kyo stream were monitored for 5 months. As it passed through the construction sites, CODcr concentration increased abruptly whereas the increment of the BOD5 was not so great, indicating that non-biodegradable organics were flowed from the construction sites to the stream. Particularly, 0.2 mg/L of N-hexane was measured, which is believed to be mainly responsible for the organic pollution from construction sites. In spite of short periods of water quality monitoring, it could be concluded that there was a good correlation between construction sites and stream pollution. Therefore, legislative activity or enforced management by local government to the construction sites are needed for keeping the small stream environment better.

        A comprehensive quality survey for heavy metals, organophosphorous and organochlorine residual pesticides, and coplanar PCBs in samples such as water, sediments and soils as well as spiders has been implemented. The samples were undertaken at nine stream sites and their vicinity in August 2006, representing different surrounding environments. The levels of PCBs were expressed as concentrations and WHO-TEFs. Among 12 coplanar PCBs as target compounds in this study, 2,3',4,4',5-PentaCB (IUPAC # 118) was the congener with the highest concentration. The total concentrations and TEF values of coplanar PCBs in Siheung stream sediment (heavy industrial complex site located in Ansan city) were 3915.50 pg/g and 0.8366 pg-TEQ/g on a dry weight basis, respectively. Such levels were around 40 times higher compared to sediment from Gapyung stream (green site located in the upper of Myunggi mountain). It is probably due to the direct input of PCBs from PCBs treatment materials. Organophosphorous (EPN, dementon-s-methyl, diazinon, parathion, and phenthoate) and organochlorine (alpha-BHC, aldrin, 4,4'-DDT, 4,4'-DDE, endosulfan alpha and etc.) pesticides were not detected above 5 ppb of detection limits. The concentrations of Cu and Cd in water and sediment samples from Siheung stream were 44.11 and 0.17 ug/㎖ and 713.42 ㎍/g and 3.73 ㎍/g, respectively, which contained 20~40 times higher concentrations than those from Gapyung stream. In addition to the water and sediment samples, the levels of heavy metals in spider from designated sampling sites were also determined. Heavy metals in spider collected near Siheung stream was appeared to be equivalent and/or a little higher levels with respect to other spiders. Furthermore, the ratio of relative heavy metals (Cu, Cd, and Pb) in spider from each stream site showed a correlation as similar as that of heavy metals in soil samples.

        The eco-hydrologic effects of maintenance water supply on Oncheon stream are studied using hydrologic, hydraulic and ecologic models. SWMM (Storm Water Management Model) is used for long-term simulation of runoff quantity and water quality from Oncheon stream watershed. Using the output hydrologic variables from SWMM, HEC-RAS (River Analysis System) is then used to simulate the hydraulics of water flow through Oncheon stream channels. Such hydrologic, hydraulic and water quality output variables from SWMM and HEC-RAS are served as input data to execute PHABSIM (Physical Habitat Simulation) for the purpose of predicting the micro-habitat conditions in rivers as a function of stream flow and the relative suitability of those conditions to aquatic life. It is observed from the PHABSIM results that the weighted usable area for target fishes has the maximum value at 2 ㎥/s of instream flow. However, mid and down stream areas that have concrete river bed and covered region are unsuitable for fish habitat regardless of instream flow increment. The simulation results indicate that the simple maintenance water supply is limited in its effect to improve the ecological environment in Oncheon stream. Therefore, it is imperative to improve water quality and to recover habitat conditions simultaneously.

        본 연구는 자갈하천에서 하상에 분포하는 입자에 작용하는 전단력을 이용하여 등가조도를 산정할 수 있는 모형을 개발하였다. 산정된 등가조도는 수위-유량자료가 부재한 하천에서 유량에 대한 수위를 산정하고 조도계수를 산정하는데 이용하였다. 대상하천은 섬진강의 중 하류부인 구례수위표와 송정수위표 구간으로 선정하였다. 등가조도는 개발된 모형에 의해 구례수위표지점에서 0.194m가 산정되었다. 산정된 등가조도를 흐름모형에 적용하여 계산된 수위유량자료를 관측된 자료와

        산지계류수에서의 T-N(총질소), T-P(총인) 및 COD(화학적산소요구량)의 농도와 유출부하의 변화를 파악하고 산림의 수질정화기능을 평가하였다. 충청북도에 있는 시험유역은 면적이 92.5 ha이며 59%의 혼효림과 30%의 침엽수림으로 구성되어 있다. 시험유역의 말단에서 평상시는 10일 간격으로 또한, 1개의 강우사상에 대하여 2-6 시간 간격으로 계류수의 유량과 농도를 1년간 측정하였다. 강우시의 평균농도는 COD만이 유의적인 수준(p<0.05)에서

        It is the purpose of this study to investigate the change of stream water quality in upper stream of Dongjin river, and to give the basic information for the conservation of water quality. Water samples were taken periodically at 9 sampling sites during 8 months from March to October in 2002. The results of this study were as follows : 1. The water temperature and pH of stream water were ranged 9.0~29.4℃, 6.48~9.33, respectively. The COD values of stream water was ranged from 0.60 to 19.06. The contents of T-N and T-P mainly affected by the livestock wastes, and agricultural activity were 1.88~6.74 mg/L, ND(not deleted)~0.50 mg/L, respectively. 2. The SS, DO and BOD values of stream water were ranged 0.4mg/L~274.0mg/L, 0.5~6.0 mg/L, and 7.3~13.7 mg/L respectively. 3. The cation is one of the important components in analysis of stream water quality. The contents of analysis, Ca++, Mg++, Na+ and K+ were ranged 1.96~11.08 mg/L, 1.21~6.16 mg/L, 3.38~18.44 mg/L, 1.12~7.96 mg/L, respectively. SAR was ranged 0.31~1.63 below 2.0. The contents of cation showed in the order Na++>Ca++>K+>Mg+. 4. The contents of heavy metal Zn, Cu, and Pb were ND~0.071 mg/L, ND~0.012 mg/L, and ND~0.043 mg/L, respectively. Cd was not detected in all samples. 5. As a result of these researches showed water quality in upper stream watershed of Dongjin river more affected by livestock wastes and living sewage than agricultural activity.

        Chonan and Asan city have been a focal point due to rapid development as the first station for Express Railroad and key cities West Coast Development Region. Gokgyo stream adjacent to the cities plays an important role as a drainage channel for an agriculture and a discharger of urban storm water. Water quality of the stream has been deteriorating caused by pollution sources such as a untreated wastewater discharge and runoff from the watershed. In this study, we conducted 4 surveys in April, May, July, and September to understand the current state of water quality for the stream and to make it possibe to predict future water-quality variation for future development. The system runs on a personal computer under the windows enviroment and provides extensive graphics using graphic user interface(GUI) for user-friendly assessment. Using the pull-down menus provided by the GUI panel, the user is able to operate the system by pointing and clicking the icon to identify the state of water-quality at locations concerned. Furthermore, we developed an integrated watershed management system. The constructed system could be a useful tool as a decesion maker for pollution source control strategy.

        This study was carried out to develop the stream water quality model for the intaking station of Kongju waterworks in the Keum River system. The monthly water quality(total nitrogen and total phosphorus) with periodicity and trend were forecasted by multiplicative ARIMA models and then the applicability of the models was tested based on 7 years of the historical monthly water quality data at Kongju intaking site. The parameter estimation was made with the monthly observed data. The last one year data was used to compare the forecasted water quality by ARIMA model with the observed one. The models are ARIMA(2,0,0)×(0,1,1)_12 for total nitrogen, ARIMA(0,1,1)×(0,1,1)_12 for total phosphorus. The forecasting results showed a good agreement with the observed data. It is implying the applicability of multiplicative ARIMA model for forecasting monthly water quality at the Kongju site.

        The purpose of this study Is to develop water quality management system fort a farm village stream. The framework design of the system and the ecological monitoring of a test watershed were carried out, The system consists of GIS(Geographic Information System ), database, pollution source management, water quality and hydrologic analysis. Suri watershed located on Idong, Yongin city, Kyunggi Province, was selected as the test watershed for the application of the system. The fifteen's monitoring stations were chooses at up- and down-stream of the watershed. The results of an aquatic ecological monitoring were analyzed by the GPI(Group Pollution Index) method. The GPI revealed that water quality was varied within the stream. GPI and DO map for the watershed stream were developed, These maps facilitated to analyze the spatial distribution of the water quality.
