        In this paper, the wakes behind a square cylinder were simulated using two kinds of different turbulence models for the eddy viscosity concept such as the zero- and the one-equation model in which the former is the mixing length model and the latter is the k-equation model. For comparison between numerical and analytical solutions, we employed three skill assessments: the correlation coefficient(r) for the similarity of the wake shape, the error of maximum velocity difference(EMVD) for the accuracy of wake velocity and the ratio of drag coefficient(RDC) for the pressure distribution around the structure. On the basis of the numerical results, the feasibility of each model for wake simulation was discussed and a suitable value for the empirical constant was suggested in these turbulence models. The zero-equation model, known as the simplest turbulence model, overestimated the EMVD and its absolute mean error(AME) for r, EMVD and RDC was ranging from 20.3 % to 56.3 % for all test. But the AME by the one-equation model was ranging from 3.4 % to 19.9 %. The predicted values of the one-equation model substantially agreed with the analytical solutions at the empirical mixing length scale L=0.6b1/2 with the AME of 3.4 %. Therefore it was concluded that the one-equation model was suitable for the wake simulation behind a square cylinder when the empirical constant for eddy viscosity would be properly chosen.

        Flow control of flow field is essential to design efficient elements relating to fluid machineries. In this study, the flow characteristics of rectangular prism with throughflow at different aspect ratio was investigated to flow control. A particle image velocimetry technique was employed to obtain detailed measurements at throughflow-velocity-based Reynolds numbers. As a results, the throughflow disturbs the development of vertical velocity component and decreased the vortex size.

        본 연구에서는 트랜섬 선미 후류 난류유동 특성을 알아보기 위하여 Re = 3.5×103 및 Re = 7.0×103에서 2-프레임 그레이레벨 상호상관 PIV기법을 적용하여 실험을 수행하였다. 트랜섬 선미의 형상은 선저와 트랜섬이 이루는 각을 기준으로 45˚(모델 A), 90˚(모델 B) 및 135˚(모델 C)로 구분하여 적용하였다. 모델의 침수깊이는 40 mm로 자유수면과 접하도록 설치하였다. 난류유동을 평균하여 난류강도, 레이놀즈 응력, 난류운동에너지에 대한 통계적 유동정보를 제공하였다. 난류강도는 자유수면과 모델의 하부 박리유동과의 상호작용으로 강하게 작용하며, 레이놀즈 응력과 난류운동에너지는 모델 C형(Raked transom)에서 낮은 분포가 나타났다.

        In this study, the velocity distribution according to upper side coner shape of underwater construction with rectangular cylinder was measured with PIV method and the wake flow characteristics was considered. According to the coner shape, the flow pattern of wake flow was also differed greatly and the step-shaped coner of cut-off ratio B/H=0.06 was similar in the slope shape in result.

        Bumblebees are widely used to pollinate crops in greenhouses and fields. Here, we investigated whether different wake-up treatments during a short period of 1-3 days just before indoor rearing has any effects on oviposition and colony development of CO2-treated Bombus ignitus queens and artificially hibernated B. terrestris queens The wake-up regimes were defined as 16L for 1 day (16L-1), 16L per day for 3 days (16L-3), 24L for 1 day (24L-1), or 24D for 1 day (24D-1). Among these wake-up treatments, the oviposition rate and preoviposition period of B. ignitus queens reared at 24L-1 were 16.7-25.1% higher and 1.0-3.5 days shorter than other wake-up treatments. B. terrestris queens reared at 24L-1 also showed the best results for egg-laying characteristics, which were 8.9-18.8% higher for oviposition and 0.6-3.5 days shorter for preovipostion period than other wake-up treatments. Furthermore, B. terrestris queens reared at 24L-1 were 17.5% and 13.8% higher in rate of colony foundation and queen production, respectively, than other wake-up treatments. These results show that the most favorable wake-up treatment just before rearing for egg-laying and colony developmental characteristics of B. ignitus and B. terrestris queens was 24L-1. Overall, our findings indicate that a wake-up treatment just before rearing was effective for colony initiation and colony development of bumblebee queens.

        무딘 모양 물체의 대표적 형상인 정사각주의 후류에서의 와류 형성 분석을 위한 스트롤수 측정 실험에서 실험 방법 및 결과의 신뢰성 확보를 위하여 실험계획법과 불확실성 해석을 수행하였다. 스트롤수는 정사각주와 지면과의 간극을 변화시키면서 열선유속계를 사용하여 측정하였다. 정사각주가 지면과 충분히 떨어져 있다면, 후류의 어느 곳에서 스트롤수를 측정하더라도 신뢰할 수 있다. 그러나 정사각주가 지면과 가까워지면 와류가 부분적으로 약하게 형성되기 때문에 스트롤수는 후류의 일정한 영역에서만 측정할 수 있으며, 신뢰할 수 있는 값을 얻기가 쉽지 않다. 이에 요인배치법과 분산분석을 이용하여 5% 유의수준에서 신뢰할 수 있는 스트롤수 측정 구역을 확보하였다. 마지막으로 불확실성 해석을 실시하여 실험 환경 및 계측 장비로부터의 오차 요인을 분석하였으며 스트롤수에 대한 95% 신뢰구간을 구하였다.

        The summer polar lower thermosphere (90–100 km) has an interesting connection to meteors, adjacent to the mesopause region attaining the lowest temperature in summer. Meteors supply condensation nuclei for charged ice particles causing polar mesospheric summer echoes (PMSE). We report the observation of meteor trail with nearly horizontal transit at high speed (20–50 km/s), and at last with re-enhanced echo power followed by diffusive echoes. Changes in phase difference between radar receivers aligned in meridional and zonal directions are used to determine variations in horizontal displacements and speeds with respect to time by taking advantage of radar interferometric analysis. The actual transit of echo target is observed along the straight pathway vertically and horizontally extended as much as a distance of at least 24 km and at most 29 km. The meteor trail initially has a signature similar to ‘head echoes’, with travel speeds from 20 – 50 km/s. It subsequently transforms into a different type of echo target including specular echo and then finally the power reenhanced. The reenhancement of echo power is followed by fume-like diffusive echoes, indicating sudden release of plasma as like explosive process probably involved. We discuss a possible role of meteor-triggered secondary plasma trail, such as fireball embedded with electrical discharge that continuously varies the power and transit speed.

        트랜섬 선미 형상변화에 따른 후류 유동특성을 알아보기 위해 Re=3.5×103 및 Re=7.0×103에서 수면하부 유동을 계측하였다. 선미형상변화에 따른 유동장 계측을 위해 2-프레임 그레이레벨 상호상관 PIV기법을 이용하여 분석하였다. 선미형상은 실선조사 결과를 바탕으로 선저와 이루는 각을 각각 45˚(모델 A), 90˚(모델 B) 및 135˚(모델 C)를 실험에 적용하였다. 모델의 선미 침수면의 깊이는 자유 수면으로부터 40mm를 기초하였다. 레이놀즈수가 증가함에 따라, 와의 규모가 증가하고 하류로 길게 형성되는 경향을 나타냈다.

        원형실린더에 크기가 다른 제어봉을 부착하여 2차원 단면 유통특성에 대해서 시간평균유동장을 계측하여 근접후류 제어에 관하여 PIV기법을 적용하여 연구를 수행하였다. 모델시험은 각각 크기가 다른 제어봉을 적용하였으며(d/D=0.1~d/D=0.5) 레이놀즈수는 원형실린더의 직경을 기준으로 Re=15,000으로 적용하였다. 유동장의 속도분포론 획득하기 위해 2프레임 상호상관법을 이용하였다. 실험에 적용된 원형실린더(D=50mm)에 제어봉을 부착한 결과를 상호 비교함으로서 시간평균속도분포와 제어봉에 의한 유동제어 효과를 알 수 있었다.
