        This study explores the perceptions of Chinese engineering-major students towards their English learning experience after taking a mandatory English composition course in an EMI college. The investigation centers on first-year students’ perceptions of transitioning to EMI, with a focus on how the composition course has assisted students’ transition as a primary language support. Data were collected through a metaphor elicitation technique in which students expressed their perceptions of English learning, complemented by a thematic analysis of 86 reflection essays on the composition class. An analysis of the 334 metaphors identified students’ enhanced confidence in English, the importance of the English-using environment, positive views of learning communities, and increased agency in the learning process. It also revealed that many students were stressed and unaware of learning strategies, therefore suggesting institutional-level language support. One implication is to promote the culture of the learning community. The findings can be particularly useful for programs that are implementing language support for non-English major students.

        This study explores the effects of teacher feedback on engineering students’ perceptions of learning a business subject and English development in the context of English-medium instruction (EMI). Using a mixed method, it examines specific contributions of teachers’ extensive feedback to the students’ emerging perceptions of interdisciplinary education and EMI. The quantitative section includes questionnaire responses of two groups of students enrolled in four sections of an entrepreneurship course: the control group (CG) in which the students received limited feedback in the lecture-style EMI (n=137) and the experimental group (EG) of extensive corrective feedback (n=133). These results are cross-examined by a semi-structured focus group interview with four respondents. The analysis shows that the university seniors’ mean satisfaction score with EMI, despite staying around the mid-point, was higher than that of the others, and significantly more so than the freshmen group. Notably, EG students appreciated EMI more than CG students. Subsequent findings establish that extensive feedback correlates with the increased positivity towards learning entrepreneurship and, more importantly, English development. This study thus proposes English programs for specific purposes and a support system including an EMI-specialized teaching methodology.

        본 연구는 과학공학 융합 수업을 통해 학생들의 공학과 공학자에 대한 인식이 어떻게 변화되었는지 알아보기 위 한 연구이다. 본 연구에서 사용한 과학공학 융합 수업은 제한된 예산과 시간동안 공학적 문제를 해결하는 24차시 수업으로 설계되었으며 20명의 초등 과학 영재 학생들에게 적용하였다. 본 연구의 주요데이터는 공학자 그림 그리기와 설명문 항, 그리고 이에 대한 개별 인터뷰와 초점 집단 면접을 통해 수집되었으며, 공학자 그리기에 대한 설명과 인터뷰는 전사 내용을 토대로 양적(빈도분석과 대응표본 t-검증), 질적 분석 방법을 모두 사용하여 분석하였다. 과학공학 융합 수업은 과학 영재 학생들의 공학 설계에 대한 이해에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 공학과 공학자, 그리고 공학 과 사회의 관계에 대한 인식도 바람직한 방향으로 변화하였다. 공학은 여러명이 협력하는 사회적인 활동이라는 인식, 그리고 공학자의 윤리의식, 공학의 사회적 가치 등 공학과 사회의 관계에 대한 인식도 바람직하게 변화하였다.

        Urban planning and engineering undergraduate students need to understand the earth physical systems and that how human beings interact with the earth systems to planning and engineering urban area. The eco-friendly or geofriendly design and planning of an urban area is a critical issue not only for economic benefits but more importantly for the sustainable future of urban life. However, little study has been done dealing with the urban engineering students’ understanding of the earth as a system and what pedagogical approach is appropriate to improve their understanding of the earth as a system. This study is to investigate the impact of a purposely designed ESS course on urban engineering students’ understanding of the earth as a system and their perceptions about the instructional approaches of the course on their learning competency. This study utilized a mixed-methodology with three main data sources: concept maps, student’s perception survey about their learning competency, and course contents. Both the survey and concept maps were analyzed quantitatively as well as qualitatively. The result of this study showed that the urban engineering students’ experience of team-based research about the topic they chose based on their own interest had a positive impact on their understanding of the earth as a system and their learning competency. The results of this study suggest that structuring and presenting the earth system contents in the context of engineering students’ understanding and their future career be effective not only for the improvement of students’ content knowledge but also for the enhancement of their learning competency such as creativity and problem-solving skills in everyday life situation

        The purpose of this study was to identity the relationships of sub factor among the brain dominance thinking types(A,B,C,D quadrant thinking type) is based on the Whole Brain Modal and self-leadership by Manz. The subjects were 102 undergraduates students from the Hoseo university in Cheonan. The results of this study as follows ; first, the brain dominance thinking type A was the highest and type C was highly rated. Second, the brain dominance thinking type A was not correlated type C and type D. Third, the brain dominance thinking type C and self-leadership sub factor was significantly positively correlated.

        This study intends to investigate the needs of study skills for English of Korean postgraduate engineering students in an academic community. In raising the issues, this research uses semi-structured interview to examine the perceptions of Korean engineering students themselves and subject lecturers. The research showed that expanded command of study skills in English integrated with academic practices of the engineering discipline was seen to be required for students in the community. Considering the demands of participation in the global academic community leads to the conclusion that the practice of EAP teaching should encompass integrative forms of literacy along with the particular academic culture and conventions of the engineering discipline.

        The purpose of this paper is to investigate the importance and roles of English for Academic Purposes (EAP) for Korean postgraduate engineering students in the era of globalization. This research examines the perceptions of Korean postgraduate engineering students themselves and subject lecturers in an institution of science and technology in Korea by using semi-structured interviews. The research demonstrated that the role of English was considered as being pivotal for communication for Korean postgraduate engineering students in their academic sectors. English was recognized as a powerful medium of international communication, needed for acceptance as qualified members in the international engineering community. English was also considered as the dominant information carrier in engineering and an essential factor for efficient study and academic success.

        This research focuses on analyzing characteristics and needs of engineering students in an EFL context, which is designed as a preliminary study of content-based language instruction to develop NURI English model. For the purpose of this study, I conduct surveys and interviews on 147 engineering students to find out students’ needs and interests as well as 9 professors to recognize their notions of what language skills would benefit engineering students. The results of surveys and interviews strongly suggest the need to adopt a learner-centered level approach with which NURI English can incorporate communicative English for general and specific purposes in the field of engineering as well as TOEIC instruction. The results of this study also lead to an instructional parameter for NURI English program that requires for taking into account an instruction model of the integration of language and content for engineering students. The present study offers a few pedagogical implications for language educators who want to design a content-based language instruction model for engineering students in EFL contexts.

        본 연구에서는 학사경고를 받은 P대학교 공과계열 중국인 유학생들이 학업적 적응 과 정에서 무엇을 경험했는지, 그리고 이 경험의 개인적·사회적 의미는 무엇인지를 내러 티브 탐구 방법을 통해 살펴보았다. 연구 참여자들은 학업적 적응 과정에서 첫째, 적절 한 진로탐색 과정이 없이 학교와 학과를 선택한 경우가 많았다. 둘째, 이들은 공과계열 수학과 역학이 어려운 점, 한국어 능력이 부족한 점, 영어로 진행하는 수업이 어려운 점 등으로 인해 학사경고를 받게 되었다. 셋째, 이들은 성적을 잘 받을 수 있는 과목 위주 의 수강과 어려운 과목의 학습시간과 학습량을 증가시키는 방법으로 학사경고를 극복하 였다. 넷째, 이들은 자신의 선택에 책임을 지고 유학생활을 끝까지 포기하지 않으려고 노력하였고, 나아가 한국에서 긍정적인 미래의 모습까지 계획하고 있었다. 공과계열 중 국인 유학생들의 학업적 적응을 높이기 위해서 사회적 차원에서는 학과정보와 진로탐색 과정을 제공하고, 정책적으로 더 높은 한국어 능력 수준을 요구해야 한다. 그

        Purpose – The study aims to examine the students’ perspective (stream wise) of parameters affecting the undergraduate engineering education system present in a private technical institution in NCR, Haryana, India. Research design, data, and methodology – It is a descriptive type of research in nature. Questionnaire Based Survey has been used to collect the data. The sample size for the study is 500 comprising of the students respondents. The sample has been taken randomly and the questionnaire was filled by the students (pursuing B. Tech) chosen on the random basis from a private technical educational institution in NCR, Haryana, India. For data analysis and conclusion of the results of the survey, statistical tool like F test was performed with the help of high quality software; SPSS. Conclusion – Analysis of variance revealed statistically no difference between the mean number of the groups (stream wise) for the parameters "Selection", "Academic Excellence", "Infrastructure", "Personality Development and Industry Exposure" and "Management and Administration". While Analysis of variance revealed statistically difference between the mean numbers of the groups for the parameter "Placements".

        매년 수질안전관리와 관련한 사건사고는 끊임없이 발생하고 있으며, 과거의 여러 사례에서 보여지듯이 수질오염으로 인한 피해는 후대까지 지속되는 인류의 끔찍한 재앙을 낳았다. 물은 인간을 비롯한 모든 생태계에 있어 가장 밀접하고도 필수적인 요소이기 때문에 철저한 유지 및 관리가 필요하다. 하지만 인간의 물 공급원인 호수나 하천은 지형적 특성상 오염 후 회복이 어려우며, 경제적인 부분은 물론, 획기적인 수질정화기술이 제시됨에도 불구하고 인구증가와 활발한 인간활동으로 그 수준을 따라가지 못하는 실정이다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 사용자의 편의를 위해 Matlab GUI로 제작한 수질의 오염정도를 간단히 예측해 볼 수 있는 수질 예측 모델에 대해 소개하고자 한다. 본 연구에서 소개하는 수질 예측 모델은 well-mixed, steady state라는 가정 하에 자연수역의 형태와 외부 오염 유입 등을 고려하여 알고자하는 지점의 수질 위험정도 판단이 용이하다. 또한 편리한 조작과 간단한 데이터 입력만으로도 수질오염정도의 판단 기준이 되는 여러 지표로 분석 가능하기 때문에 환경공학도들의 자가학습 툴(Self-Learning Tool)로도 효과적일 것으로 기대된다.

        Purpose - This study examines students’ perspectives (stream-wise) of parameters affecting education quality in an affiliated undergraduate engineering institution in NCR, Haryana. Research design, data, and methodology - This study involves descriptive research and data collection using a structured questionnaire based on the Likert scale. The sample comprises 500 student respondents. For data analysis, an f-test was performed using high quality SPSS software. Results - For "Selection" and "Personality Development & Industry Exposure," the analysis of variance revealed a statistical difference between the mean values of the groups. Whereas, for "Academic Excellence," "Infrastructure," "Placements," and "Management & Administration," the analysis of variance revealed no statistical difference between the mean values of the groups. Conclusions - Students’ perceptions about the "Selection" and "Personality Development & Industry Exposure" change according to the various specializations they opt for in their undergraduate engineering education in Haryana. Whereas, for "Academic Excellence," "Infrastructure," "Placements," and "Management & Administration," the perceptions of the students do not vary because of the different specializations they have opted for in their undergraduate engineering education.
