        A mono-type glycerine fatty acid ester compound was chemically synthesized using medium-chain fatty acids with antibacterial activity, and the physicochemical quality and antibacterial activity of the synthesized glycerine medium-chain fatty acid ester compound were measured. At a reaction molar ratio of MCT(medium chain triglyceride) to glycerine of 1:2.5, 48.15% mono ester was produced. The physicochemical analysis of the synthesized glycerine fatty acid ester compound showed an acid content of 0.38~0.60%, which tended to increase slightly as the glycerine molar ratio increased. The saponification value decreased as the synthesized molar ratio of glycerine increased from 218 to 284. The number of bacteria was measured to confirm the degree of antibacterial activity of glycerine medium-chain fatty acid esters against food poisoning bacteria, Bacillus cereus and Salmonella typhi. The number of bacteria significantly decreased as the MCT:glycerine molar ratio increased. In particular, the antibacterial effect between the treatment groups was the highest when at an MCT:glycerine molar ratio of 1:2.5.

        폴리글리세린지방산에스터 비이온계면활성제는 식품 등에 오래전부터 사용해 왔으며 PEG계 비이온계면활성제의 안전성 문제에 대한 대안으로 제시되고 있다. 폴리글리세린지방산에스터 계면활성제는 친수기인 폴리글리세린과 친유기인 지방산을 결합시켜 합성된다. 친수기인 폴리글리세린은 글리세린, 글 리시돌, 에피클로로히드린 등을 이용하여 중합되는데 폴리글리세린 중합반응의 주요 이슈는 분기·환상형태가 아닌 직쇄형태의 폴리글리세린의 함량을 높이고 중합도의 분포를 좁히는 것이다. 친수기인 폴리글리세린에 지방산계 친유기를 결합시키는 방법에는 에스터화 반응 등의 화학적 합성법과 지방분해효소를 이용한 효소 합성법이 있다. 폴리글리세린지방산에스터 합성의 주요 이슈는 에스터화정도를 조절하면서 반응 수율을 높이고 부반응을 억제하는 것이다.

        항공유에 fatty acid methyl esters (FAME)가 혼합될 경우 연료 공급시스템과 항공기 엔진에 치명적인 고장의 원인이 될 수 있기 때문에 항공유 품질규격에서 FAME 함량을 50 mg/kg 이하로 규정 하고 있다. 무수히 많은 탄화수소로 구성된 항공유 중의 FAME 성분을 선택적으로 분석하기 어렵기 때문에 본 연구에서는 MDGC-MS를 사용한 새로운 시험방법을 개발하였다. Deans switching 시스템이 설치된 MDGC-MS를 이용하면 코코넛 오일이나 팜유 유래의 저분자량 FAME 성분도 분석이 가능함을 확인하였다. 개발된 시험방법은 FAME 피크의 머무름 시간을 약간 뒤로 이동시키는 매질 효과(matrix effect)를 현행의 기준 시험방법(IP 585)보다 약 20배 이하로 감소시킬 수 있었다. MDGC-MS는 항공 유에 미량의 FAME가 오염되었는지 여부를 정성 및 정량적으로 확인할 수 있는 시험방법으로 적합하였다.

        고급지방산 메틸 에스테르류의 소포제를 합성하고 FT-IR과 1H-NMR 분석을 통해 확인하였 다. FT-IR을 이용하여 합성된 물질의 특징인 -C=O기는 1740 cm-1 부근에서, 그리고 C-O기는 1175 cm-1 피크 값을 가지는 것을 확인하였다. 또한 1H-NMR 분석을 통해 에스테르의 -C=O의 Chemical shift가 2.29 ppm에서 나타나는 것을 확인하였다. 표면장력은 Surface Tensiometer CBVP-43을 이용하여 측정하였다. 표면장력은 17.7에서 21 dyne/cm 값을 가진다. SLS 수용액에서의 소포능은 Ross-Miles법을 통해 측정되었다. 4종류의 소포제 중 소포능 은 스테아르산메틸을 이용하여 제조한 소포제가 가장 뛰어난 것으로 측정됐다.

        It is known that the content of saturated fatty acids methyl ester (SFAME) affect the pour point of biodiesel at low temperature. In this study, biodiesel (BD) was produced from beef tallow (TAL) by alkali catalyst. To reduce the saturation in BD, acetone fractionation was applied. Besides, TAL was also solvent-fractionated to reduce the saturated fatty acid (SFA) content for further producing BD. With acetone, TAL or TAL methyl ester (5:1 v/w) were fractionated at 10, 0, -10, and -15℃, respectively. At -10℃, 17.35% of SFA was observed in fractionated TAL (liquid part, -10TAL) when 5:1 solvent ratio was used for 24 hr. Under the same condition, fractionated BD (liquid part, -10BD) showed SFA (33.14%) with 78wt % yield. Also, fractionation of BD with different concentration of crystallizer 209 (0.1, 0.5, and 1%) along with different time (2, 6, 12, and 24 hr.) was observed. The best condition for reducing the SFA was 0.5% of crystallizer 209 addition for 12 hr of fractionation time at -10℃, in which 30.14% of SFA content was observed in BD (liquid part). Among different crystallizer, ps 66 showed the least content of SFA content (23.28%) in BD after fractionation (-10℃ and 24 hr) with 0.5wt% addition.

        Our previous research has identified granulin (grn) and p130 genes as sex steroidinducible genes in the rat hypothalamus, which might be involved in sexual differentiation of the brain. Phthalate esters that are used as plasticizers and also found at low levels in foods such as dairy products are often mentioned as suspected endocrine disrupters. The purpose of the present study is to elucidate whether perinatal exposure to dinbutyl phthalate (DBP), diisononyl phthalate (DINP) and di2ethylhexyl adipate (DEHA) affects hypothalamic sex steroidinducible genes. The present study assessed the effects of perinatal exposure to DBP, DINP and DEHA on sex steroid hormones levels and hypothalamic grn and p130 mRNA expressions at postnatal day (PND) 3 and 7. Pregnant rats were fed a soyfree diet containing 20, 200, 2,000 and 10,000 ppm of DBP, 40, 400, 4,000 and 20,000 ppm of DINP, or 480, 2,400 and 12,000 ppm of DEHA from gestational day (GD) 15 to GD 3 or 7. At PND 3 and 7, perinatal exposure to these chemicals did not substantially affect serum concentrations of testosterone and estradiol. At PND 3, the expression of grn mRNA levels in males was decreased by DEHA, and that of p130 was decreased by DBP, DINP and DEHA, though the effects were not dosedependent. At PND 7, the expression of grn gene in female pups was increased by higher doses of DBP and all the doses, except for 4,000 ppm, of DINP, while that in male pups decreased by 480 and 12,000 ppm of DEHA. Hypothalamic expression of p130 mRNA in males was increased by lower doses of DBP and all the doses of DINP, whereas that of females was decreased by 480 and 2,400 ppm of DEHA. These results suggest that these chemicals may affect the expression of grn and p130 genes by directly acting on the hypothalamus, thus leading to inappropriate expression of these genes.

        Di-n-butyl phthalate (DBP), diisononyl phthalate (DINP) and di-(2-ethylhexyl) adipate (DEHA) are ubiquitously distributed chemicals that are widely used as plasticizers and also found at low levels in foods. The aims of this study were to determine whether perinatal exposure to DBP, DINP and DEHA could alter normal patterns of neonatal development. Dams were provided with pulverized soy-free diet containing 20, 200, 2,000 and 10,000 ppm of DBP, 40, 400, 4,000 and 20,000 ppm of DINP, or 480, 2,400 and 12,000 ppm of DEHA from gestational day 15 to postnatal day 21. Exposure to the high doses of DBP, DINP and DEHA during gestational period significantly decreased food consumption and body weight gain of dams. These chemicals reduced neonatal body weight as well as that of the after maturation. Also, exposure to DINP of all the doses used and the higher doses (2,400 and 12,000 ppm) of DEHA decreased AGD at PND 1 in male neonates, though that to DBP did not affect AGD in males. In female neonates, an increase in AGD was observed in DBP- and DINP-exposed animals at the highest doses. Moreover, these chemicals affected survival rate of pups at PND 5, and delayed onset of eye opening in all chemical-exposed groups at PND 17. These results suggest that perinatal exposure to these chemicals may affect the normal development and / or growth of offspring.

        Competitive solvent extraction of alkaline earth metal cations from water into organic solvent containing the carboxylic acid crown ether and analogous crown ether phosphonic acid monoethyl esters were investigated. sym-(n-Decyldibenzo)-16-crown-5xyacetic acid _1 and monoethyl sym-(n-decyldibenzo)-16-crown-5-oxymethylphosphonic acid _3 are structurally identical except for the ionizable groups. Both of them provide similar extraction behavior in terms of efficiency and selectivity, but monoethyl sym-(n-decyldibenzo)-16-crown-5-oxymethylphosphonic acid _3 showed higher alkaline earth metals loadings at acidic or neutral media. Monoethylsym-(n-octyldibenzo)-16-rown-5-oxymethylphosphonic acid _2 showed better selectivity and alkaline earth metals loading than did the analogous sym-(n-octyldibenzo)-16-crown-5-oxymethyldiphosphonic acid _6.

        A mixture of methyl ester derivatives of fatty acids from the oils of pine nuts was well resolved to five fractions differing by degree of unsaturation by silver ion solid-phase extraction column chromatography (Ag+-SEC). Polyunsaturated fatty acid with non-methylene interrupted conjugated double bond (NMiDB) radical held more strongly to silver ions in the column than methylene interrupted conjugated double bond (MiDB) one when they had the same number of double bonds. Although both the picolinyl ester and DMOX derivative provided clear mass ion species powerful enough to elucidate the structure of the polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) with NMiDB and/or methylene interrupted conjugated double bond (MiDB) radical in the oils, the picolinyl ester of PUFA with NMiDB radical did not provide a cluster of mass ions neighboring diagnostic mass ions induced by the double bond in the proximal to the carboxyl group. However, the DMOX derivative of PUFA with NMiDB group as well as MiDB showed abundant mass ion species differing by gaps of 12 amu, which made it possible with greater ease to locate the double bonds in the molecule. The oil contained C18:2Ω6 (46.2 %) and C18:1Ω9 (25.4 %) as main components, and considerable amounts of PUFAs with NMiDB radical such as δ5. 9. 12-C18:3 (16.0 %), δ5. 9-C18:2 (2.3 %) and δ5. 11. 14-C20:3 (0.8 %).

        A study has been carried out to estimate the average daily intakes of sorbates, benzoates, and esters of p-hydroxybenzoic acid commonly used in Korea. The estimation of daily intakes was based on individual dietary intakes in $quot;National Health and Nutrition Survey in 1998$quot; and the the contents of preservatives from 264 samples. Estimated daily intakes(EDI) of sorbates, benzoates, esters of p-hydroxybenzoic acid were 0.22, 0.015, and 0.004 mg/kg bw/day, respectively. When assuming the standard body weight of 55 kg for Korean, ratios to acceptable daily intake(ADI) of sorbates, benzoates, and esters of p-hydroxybenzoic acid were 0.88, 0.30, and 0.04%, respectively.

        In recent years, there has been considerable interest in the development of new functional surfactant including new type of anionic surfactants. Anionic surfactants, α-sulfo fatty acids that straight long chain alkyl group having from 12 to 18 carbon atoms, were synthesized with sulfur trioxide-dioxane complex to good yield. Xylitol α-sulfo fatty acid esters were obtained by reaction that the acetification and esterification of xylitol, by addition reaction with sodium chloride and hydrolysis respectively. These compounds were a new group of destructible surfactants which readily hydrolyzed and oxidized in natural water reservoirs. Physical properties of these new compounds involved surface tension, critical micelle concentration(cmc), foaming power, emulsion power, and hydrolysis properties, were measured. The cmc values of the compounds by ring method were assumed to 7.0×10-3~3.0×10-2mol/l range and surface tensions at cmc were 25~31dyne/cm respectively.

        All the surface activities including surface tension, foaming power, foam stability, emulsifying power, dispersion effect, and detergency were measured and critical micelle concentration(cmc) was evaluated in dilute aqueous solution. The cmc evaluated by the Ring method was 10-3~10-4mol/L in case of monoesters, and 10-3~5.0×10-5mol/L in case of diesters, respectively. Surface tension of the aqueous solution was decreased to 45~50dyne/cm, showing the tendency that the ability of lowering the surface tension was dependent on increasing of carbon atom number in alkyl chain. Foaming power of all the monoesters was better than that of diesters. while foam stability of diesters was to the contrary. Emulsifying power of soybean oil or benzene was specially expected to be good for emulsifiers in industrial application fields. HLB values of monoesters and diesters evaluated by Griffin's method were in the range of 8 to 12. Dispersion property of ferric oxide was stable in the range of 4.5×10-5~5.0×-4mol/L in case of monoesters, and 10-5~10-4mol/L in case of diesters.
