We investigated the duration of laying worker oviposition and egg-laying behavior in three queenless colonies of A. cerana by in situ video recording. Egg load was determined by dissecting laying workers in September 2012. Egg size, length and breadth, shape index and egg elongation were calculated. To determine the number of eggs laid by laying workers per cell at 24, 53, 74, 120 and 171 hours was also monitored. To estimate the number of eggs per cell per week, a small comb was squeezed between two frames. The combs were collected at given hours and weekly to count the number of eggs, respectively. The results showed that the duration of oviposition of laying workers on average was 109.2 ± 67.5 seconds per cell. During oviposition, egg-laying workers showed two types of behaviors, viz; a still phase, where the egg-laying workers did not move, and a recovery phase, where the egg-laying workers vigorously wagged their abdomens after oviposition. The results showed that on average, 4.0 ± 5.1 of worker eggs per cell per week was recorded. The highest number of eggs was recorded at 120 hours compare to at 24, 53, 74 and 171 hours. Three different shapes of the eggs namely oval, elongated long and elongated curve shaped was laid by workers. The results showed that the laying worker carried 1 to 4 mature eggs in her ovaries and may lay from one to four per oviposition. In conclusion, the laying worker shows a still and a recovery phase during and after laying the eggs. The laying workers retain 1 to 4 eggs in their ovaries. The breadth of eggs is strong positive relationships with length. One worker cell can accumulate up to 33 eggs in queenless colonies.

This study was performed to investigate the escape of pine wood nematode (PWN), Bursaphelenchus xylophilus, from two vector species (Monochamus alternatus and M. saltuarius) through oviposition and feeding behavior. First, we checked number of PWNs escaped from M. alternatus emerged from three different cases of pine logs. In case A, healthy pine trees were cut into logs and left in pine forest infected with PWN. In case B, healthy pine trees were cut into logs, left in large screen cage, and let them oviposited by M. alternatus emerged from pine trees infested with PWN. In case C, pine trees which were harboring M. alternatus were cut into logs, and PWN was inoculated artificially. The M. alternatus adults emerged from the above three cases of pine logs were checked in the next year to know how many PWN they were harboring in their bodies. The percentages of M. alternatus harboring PWN (18.3 and 15.6%, respectively) and number of nematodes per vector (5,713.1±9,248.3 and 2,034.1±4,746.8 PWNs, respectively) in case A and B logs are similar to each other. However, the percentage and the number in case C (38.3% and 20,083.1±32,188.3 PWNs) were higher than those of case A and B. Among 52 M. alternatus adults harboring PWN from all the three cases, 20 adults (38.5%) were harboring more than 5,000 PWNs per beetle. And these 20 adults were harboring 97.9% of the total PWNs in 52 adults. Second, we checked the daily escape of PWNs from M. alternatus and M. saltuarius collected at pine forest infested with PWN. The PWN escaped from their vector body for 34.9±12.4 days for M. alternatus, and for 23.9±16.2 days for M. saltuarius, reaching at peak escape during the 2nd week of emergence of the two vector species. A 44.5 and 47.2% to the total PWNs escaped from vector body within 2 weeks of vector emergence for M. alternatus and M. saltuarius, respectively. The number of PWNs escaped from each vector was 3,570.6±5,189.2 and 1,556.2±1,710.3 for M. alternatus and M. saltuarius, respectively.

This study was conducted to determine whether trichome density affects the oviposition behavior of adult female Tetranychus urticae Koch on host plant leaves. Experiments were conducted with twenty replications on the leaf discs of each plant (Pear, 'Niitaka'; Apple, 'Fuji'; Strawberry, 'Meahyang'; 3cm diameter) at 25℃, 60-70% RH and a photoperiod of 16:8 (L:D) h. One female T. urticae was placed on each disc. The number and locations of laid eggs were recorded at 24 h intervals until T. urticae died. The trichomes were distributed along the midrib of abaxial surface of pear leaves but were evenly distributed on that of apple and strawberry leaves. Eggs were mostly laid along the midrib of pear leaf disc, but eggs were laid not only along the midrib but also randomly over the leaf disc of apple and strawberry. Therefore, it appeared that T. urticae preferred to lay eggs on the specific location where trichomes were densely distributed. Further study is needed to quantify how different distribution patterns of T. urticae eggs on different plant leaves affect the efficacy of predatory mites to control T. urticae.

매미나방알좀벌, Ooencyrtus kuvanae (Hymenoptera : Encyrtidae), 이 기주를 발견한 후 산란을 끝내고 기주를 떠날 때까지 11단계의 연속행동과정, 그리고 자기몸청소, 휴식 등과 같은 부수적인 행동이나 산란관에 의한 상처로부터 나오는 기주체액을 먹는 습성 등이 조사되었다. 기생벌에 기주난이 연속적으로 주어졌을 때는 처음 산란을 마친 매미나방알좀벌은 활발히 주변을 움직이며 다음 산란대상이 되는 기주에 보다 빨리 접근하는 경향을 나타내고, 또한 기주접촉단계에 소요하는 시간이 첫 번째 난에서 보다 두 번째 세 번째난에서 단축되는 경향을 나타내는 것으로 관찰되어 산란경험이 기주발견과 인식에 중요한 영향을 미치는 것으로 조사되었다.

사육실조건(, 광주기 16L:8D, 상대습도 60%)에서 조사된 담배나방(Heliothis assclta Gueness)의 우화, 교미 및 산란의 행동과 일일리듬은 다음과 같다. 불꺼진 후 3시나 이내에 75% 이상이 우화하였으며, 우화된 날개확장과 경화까지는 약 33분이 소요되었다. 성충 수컷은 교미때까지 촉각 운동, 날개 진동, hairpencils확장 , 암컷 산란관 두드림등 일련의 행동을 보였으나, 암컷은 복부끝의 수죽과 이완, 날개 진동 등의 다소 단순한 행동을 보였다. 모든 교미는 암기간 전반기에 주로 일어났으며, 불꺼진 2시간 전후에서 최대 피크를 보였으나, 처녀 암컷의 경우 연령증가에 따라 빨라지는 경향을 보였다. 교미율은 24시간된 미교미암컷에 가장 높았으며, 연령증가에 따라 감소되는데 같은 경향이 미교미수컷에서도 나타났다. 교미지속기단은 평균 14분이었다. 산란 역시 암기간 전체를 통하여 일어났지만, 불꺼진 후 2시간 이내에 최적 피크를 보였으며, 산란수는 교미후 3일에서 가장 많았다. 교미율, 산란수, 수명은 성비에 따라 달랐으며, 교미한 성충의 수명이 교미하지 않은 것보다 더 짧았다.
