        In a nuclear facility, the base metal can be radiologically contaminated during the operation. They must be decontaminated to reduce the radiation exposure to workers before decommissioning of the nuclear facility. In order to decontaminate the nuclear facility, it is possible to apply a perfluorocarbon (PFC) based emulsion consisted of surfactant and decontamination reagent. The PFC has high resistance for the radiation decomposition, and PFC based emulsion can be easily stabilized using the ultrasonication method. During decontamination process, a dispersion stability of the emulsion affects to the decontamination performance because the decontamination reagents dispersed in the emulsion contact contaminated surface. In this study, the dispersion stability the PFC based emulsion was evaluated following the composition of the emulsion and dispersion condition such as temperature, ultrasonication time. It was confirmed that the concentration of surfactant is highly related to the dispersion stability from the result of Turbiscan analysis using the multiple light scattering method. It was also verified that the droplet size of the decontamination reagent in the stable emulsion was smaller than that in the unstable emulsion. This phenomena can be explained by the relationship between the interfacial tension and droplet size. Finally, the recovering test of the PFC from the spent PFC-based decontamination emulsion was conducted using distillation method. The distillation test was performed using vacuum distillation unit, and the distillation temperature was 80°C. From the distillation test, about 95 % of PFC was recovered by distillation. From this result, it is considered that PFC-based decontamination emulsion reduces the volume of the secondary waste.

        During the normal operation boron concentrates and spent resins are generated. The boron concentrates are treated by concentrated waste drying system (CWDS) and results in fine powder form. The solidification or application of high integrity container (HIC) is required for the disposal of the dried boron concentrates. The spent resin is stored in storage tank after the water treatment. The spent resin also requires solidification or application of HIC to satisfy the waste acceptance criteria (WAC) in Korea. The solidification process requires periodic validation. The repeated validation and complicated process hesitates the practical application. The application of HIC offers various advantages, including flexible free standing water requirement, higher waste loading compared to solidification, and simple process. The polymer concrete (PC), which is a primary component for PC-HIC exhibits good material stability. The expected transportation mechanism of nuclide in the PC-HIC are 1) diffusion by concentration, 2) permeation by pressure, and 3) capillary suction when considering the disposal condition. Since the PC-HIC effectively prevents the intrusion of neighboring water and volume of free standing water is lower than 1%, it seems that diffusion by concentration is the primary transportation mechanism. In this study, the property of PC is investigated based on Cl ion diffusion test to evaluate the material reliability. The results indicate that PC exhibits superior stability compared to ordinary portland cement. In addition, the reliable life time of PC is estimated base on the element transportation phenomena.

        The Korea Nuclear Safety Act defines a high integrity container (HIC) as “a radioactive waste packaging container that can maintain its integrity for more than 300 years under the general underground environment and disposal conditions in Korea”, and detailed technical standards are not described. The US Nuclear Safety Commission’s “Low-Level Waste Licensing Branch Technical Position on Waste Form” describes the detailed requirements for solidification and HIC. The main contents of the US NRC technical position include limiting the free standing water, minimum design life, demonstrating mechanical, thermal and radiation stability, etc. In this study, the stability evaluation was performed to understand the mechanical strength with respect to horizontal and vertical loads. The basic property of polymer concrete was carefully evaluated, including compressive strength, structural fatigue resistance, etc. The long term creep test, loading of 40% of compressive strength, indicates that the polymer concrete exhibits good long term mechanical integrity.

        The structural stability of the recycled concrete disposal container was evaluated and compared the applicability of the current design standards for recycled concrete of nuclear power plant. The structural stability requirement for concrete disposal containers is 37.7 MPa or more. As a result of the compressive strength test on recycled concrete, 50% of coarse aggregates of recycled concrete was 42.1 MPa. In addition, it was found that the bending strength and shear strength of recycled reinforced concrete beam exceeded the current design standard. Therefore, it is judged that recycled concrete containing coarse aggregates can be sufficiently utilized. It was possible to ensure the structural stability of the concrete container without changing the design specifications and reinforcing bars when recycled concrete is applied.

        Uranium-235, used for nuclear power generation, has brought radioactive waste. It could be released into the environment during reprocessing or recycling of the spent nuclear fuel. Among the radioactive waste nuclides, I-129 occurs problems due to its long half-life (1.57×107 y) with high mobility in the environment. Therefore, it should be captured and immobilized into a geological disposal system through a stable waste form. One of the methods to capture iodine in the off-gas treatment process is to use silver loaded zeolite filter. It converts radioactive iodine into AgI, one of the most stable iodine forms in the solid state. However, it is difficult to directly dispose of AgI itself in an underground repository because of its aqueous dissolution under reducing condition with Fe2+. It must be immobilized in the matrix materials to prevent release of iodine as a result of chemical reaction. Among the matrix glasses, silver tellurite glass has been proposed. In this study, additives including Al, Bi, Pb, V, Mo, and W were added into the silver tellurite glass. The thermal properties of each matrix for radioactive iodine immobilization were evaluated. The glasses were prepared by the melt-quenching method at 800°C for 1 h. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) was performed to evaluate the thermal properties of the glass samples. From the study, the glass transition temperature (Tg) was increased by adding additives such as V2O5, MoO3, or WO3 in the silver tellurite glass. The relative electro-static field (REF) values of V2O5, MoO3, and WO3 are about three times higher than that of the glass network former, TeO2. It could provide sufficient electro-static field (EF) to the TeO2 interacting with the non-bridging oxygen forming Te-O-M (M = V, Mo, W) links. Therefore, the addition of V2O5, MoO3, or WO3 reinforced the glass network cohesion to increase the Tg of the glass. The addition of MoO3or WO3 in the silver tellurite glass increased Tg and crystallization temperature (Tc) with remaining the glass stability.

        As the plan for the nuclear dismantlement due to the permanent shutdown of Kori-1 and Wolseong- 1 nuclear power plants has been concretized, a “movable radionuclide analysis system” is being developed that can quickly and accurately analyze large amounts of radioactive waste generated on the sites during dismantling. This system has various advantages from the perspective of strict regulations on the radioactive waste movement and social acceptability, such as preventing unexpected accidents while moving on the national highway or expressway, reducing various documents and immediate response to dismantling plans. Currently the system is being developed to be equipped with previously developed sample pretreatment and radioactivity measuring equipment and automated volatile and nonvolatile nuclide separation equipments, but to ensure mobile stability, it needs to analyze factors and establish stability standards. In the KS Q ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standard, the requirements for “facilities and environmental conditions” are a very important factor in building reliability for consumers as part of the quality guarantee for this facility. In order to meet the requirements, the technical standards of various test equipment to be installed in this facility were investigated. The physical, chemical, and radiological hazards that could affect the safety of the equipment and workers in the process of moving the equipment between nuclear power plants or between nuclear dismantling sites were derived from vibrations, rapid changes in temperature and humidity, and the spread of contamination from radioactive waste samples. Therefore, the scope of application of the law, which is the basis for securing stability during movement, was classified into two situations: movement from facility manufacturer to installation site (non-contaminated) and movement from primary to secondary use (contaminated). And in order to investigate the Nuclear Safety Act, enforcement ordinances, and radiation safety management, and to establish standards for packaging and transportation of radioactive materials, the results of transportation tests and transport details were compared and analyzed. Finally, the air suspension systems and the automatic temperature and humidity control devices were analyzed to establish standards for securing stability against the vibration and the sharp changes in the temperature and humidity, and countermeasures such as accident measures in accordance with the Enforcement Decree of the Nuclear Safety Act were also investigated.

        During the treatment of spent nuclear fuel, radioactive iodine is generated in a liquefied or gaseous form in a specific process. In the case of iodine 129, it is a long-lived nuclide with a very long halflife and has high groundwater mobility under repository conditions. Despite showing a low radioactivity value, research on the management of radioactive iodine from a long-term perspective is continuously being performed. Although research has been conducted using borosilicate glass as a medium for solidifying iodine, compatibility of I in borosilicate glass is very small and the volatility is high in the solidification process. So it is not suitable as a solidified substance of iodine. Therefore, studies on other solidification media to replace them are continuously being conducted. Our research team tried to develop a new medium that can contain iodine in a solidified body stably through a simple heat treatment process and can improve problems such as volatility and waste loading. Iodine is captured as AgI in the Ag ion-exchanged zeolite. So, TeO2, Ag2O, and Bi2O3 having a high AgI loading rate were used as main components. It was named TAB after taking the first letter of each element. In previous studies, the physical properties, structure, and chemical stability of TAB materials were confirmed. PCT (Product Consistent test) was performed to confirm chemical stability. It is mainly used to compare the chemical stability of glass materials with other glass materials, but there are limitations in evaluating the long-term chemical stability of materials. In this experiment, we tried to evaluate the long-term stability of TAB and compare it with borosilicate, which is conventionally used to treat radioactive waste. In addition, we tried to understand the leaching behavior inside the TAB medium. For this purpose, ASTM C1308 test was performed for 365 days, and distilled water and KURT groundwater were used as leachates to examine the effect of ions in the groundwater on the solidified body. To analyze the leaching behavior, ICP-MS and ICP-OES analyses were performed, and the cross-section of the sample after leaching was observed through SEM.

        해저 석유와 가스 탐사가 점점 더 깊은 수심으로 진행되고 있으며, 해저 파이프라인은 고압 및 고온 조건에서 작동하는 것이 일반적이다. 온도 및 압력 차이로 인하여 파이프 축 방향 힘이 축적되는 현상이 있다. 이러한 현상은 파이프라인을 구속하는 해저면 효과 때문에 파이프라인은 횡 좌굴이 발생하게 된다. 온도가 증가하는 경우 축 방향의 압축 하중이 가해지며 이 하중이 임계 수준에 도달하면 파이프가 수직방향으로 움직이게 된다. 또는 파이프라인의 구조적 완전성을 위태롭게 할 수 있는 횡 방향 좌굴이 발생하는 상황에서, 작 동 중 파이프라인의 구조적 안전함을 보장하기 위해 파이프라인의 상세 구조 강도평가가 수행되어야 한다. 본 연구에서는 해저면의 마찰 효과 및 재료의 열 수축/팽창을 고려한 비선형 구조해석을 상용 유한요소해석 프로그램인 ANSYS를 활용하여 검토하였으며, 외부충격에 의한 횡 방향 좌굴 안전성을 분석하였다. 본 연구의 결과를 통하여 수치 해석적 단순화된 분석 모델을 통하여 해저면의 효과를 고려한 조 건에서의 실제 파이프라인의 붕괴 조건을 예측할 수 있다.

        This research studied faults that may occur during slow charging using the J1772 adapter of Tesla Model-3 electric vehicles. When the AC terminal was instantaneously disconnected, charging was performed normally when an AC circuit with disconnection up to three disconnection times was connected. Charging control was suspended when the number of disconnection reached four times. However, if the AC disconnection time exceeded 22 seconds, the charging control was stopped regardless of the number of disconnection. When a contact failure occurred at the AC terminal, high surge current and noise occurred. However, when the contact improved, the charging control continued. In terms of safety, it seems necessary to take measures such as stopping charging control when detecting noise.

        전 세계 해상 선박사고 건수는 감소하고 있지만, 국내 해상 사고 건수는 증가하고 있다. 이러한 이유에서 국내 선박의 해양 사 고를 줄이기 위한 한 가지 방법으로 사고 건수가 가장 많은 어선과 낚시어선을 대상으로 하는 어선복원성기준에 관한 연구를 수행한다. 국제해사기구(IMO)와 국내 그리고 일본, 중국, 캐나다 해외 3개국의 어선복원성기준을 각각 조사하고, 상호 비교 분석한 결과외국의 기준 들 대비 국내 기준이 가장 완화된 기준임을 알 수 있었다. 비교 분석 결과를 토대로 국내 어선복원성 기준을 보완하기 위한 어선복원성기 준 개정(안)을 5가지 평가항목에 대해서 제안했다.

        Silicon oxide (SiOx) has been considered one of the most promising anode materials for lithium-ion batteries due to having a higher capacity than the commercial graphite anodes. However, its practical application is hampered by very large volume variations. In this work, pyrolysis fuel oil is the carbon coating precursor, and physical vapor deposition (PVD) is performed on SiOx at 200 and 400 °C (SiOx@C 200 and SiOx@C 400), followed by carbonization at 950 °C. SiOx@C 200 has a carbon coating layer with a thickness of ~ 20 nm and an amorphous structure, while that of SiOx@C 400 is approximately 10 nm thick and has a more semigraphitic structure. The carbon-coated SiOx anodes display better charge–discharge performance than the pristine SiOx anode. In particular, SiOx@C 200 shows the highest reversible capacity compared with the other samples at high C-rates (2.0 and 5.0 C). Moreover, SiOx@C 200 exhibits excellent cycling stability with a capacity retention of 90.2% after 80 cycles at 1.0 C. This result is ascribed to the suppressed volume expansion by the PFO carbon coating on SiOx after PVD.

        본 연구는 다양한 상대습도(11~93%) 조건에서 해조류의 미생물 안정성 및 품질특성에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 미생물 안정성은 저장 중 대장균군, 일반세균, 효모 및 곰팡이수를 분석하였다. 일반세균은 상대습도 69~93%에서 4.40~7.00 log CFU/g, 효모 및 곰팡이는 4.20~6.40 log CFU/g로 상대습도 69%이상 조건에서 일반세균, 효모 및 곰팡이의 수가 급격하게 증가하였다. 고결현상은 상대습도 11~53% 조건에서는 일어나지 않았으나 69, 81, 93% 조건에서는 각각 86.9, 99.45, 99.98%로 높은 고결현상을 가지는 것으로 나타났다. 색도는 상대습도가 높아질수록 L값과 b값이 감소하였고, a값이 증가하여 갈변현상이 일어났다. 또한, 총 페놀함량(9.10~8.66 mg GAE/100 g dw), ABTS 소거능(24.20~24.18 mg AAE/100 g dw), FRAP(15.34~15.33 mg Fe(II)/100 g dw)활성은 저장 중 상대습도 11~33%에서 가장 높게 유지되었다. 그러나, 상대습도 43~93%에서 저장 중 총 페놀함량(8.66~4.00 mg GAE/100 g dw), ABTS(22.57~4.50 mg AAE/100 g dw), FRAP(13.06~4.00 mg AAE/100 g dw)활성이 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 상대습도 81% 조건에서 ABTS 및 FRAP이 1/3배로 감소하였고, 93% 조건에서 총 페놀함량, ABTS 및 FRAP이 각각 1/2배, 1/5배, 1/3배로 감소하였다. 따라서, 일반세균, 효모 및 곰팡이의 성장 억제, 고결현상 방지, 갈변억제, 높은 총 페놀함량과 항산화활성 유지를 위해서는 상대습도 53% 이하의 조건에서 보관하는 것이 미생물 안정성 및 품질특성 유지에 효과적일 것으로 판단된다.

        Background: Gluteus medius muscle is important for the stability of hip joint. The sufficient core stability can be contributed to the performance of gluteus medius muscle in standing position. In addition, the external support may affect core stability in standing position. Objects: The purpose of this study was to investigated the effectiveness of the external support on the strength and muscle activity of hip abductor muscle during hip abduction in standing position in subjects without core stability. Methods: Fifteen subjects participated in this study. The subjects were evaluated by using the double-leg lowering with bent knees to measure the core stability. The strength and muscle activity of hip abductors was measured in standing position with the condition with and without external support using the tensiometer sensor and the surface electromyography. The paired t-test was used to investigate the difference between hip abductor strength and activity according to external support. The level of statistical significance was set at α = 0.05. Results: The hip abductor strength and muscle activity of gluteus medius muscle with external support were significantly greater than those without external support during hip abduction in standing position (p < 0.05). Conclusion: During hip abduction in standing position, the external support may be contributed to the improvement of the hip abductor strength and muscle activity of gluteus medius especially in the subjects without core stability.

        소변검사 전 냉/해동 반복과 해동 과정에 따라 대표적인 임상 화학검사 측정값의 변화를 확인 함으로써 소변검사의 안정성과 품질 개선방안을 모색하고자 하였다. 조사 대상자는 모두 건강한 남성 10명이었으며 이들의 소변 검체를 이용하여 냉/해동 안정성(freeze and thaw stability) 실험을 진행하였다. Micro-albumin과 Amylase의 경우 시간이 경과 됨에 따라 37℃에서 는 통계적 유의성은 없었으나, 42℃와 60℃에서는 시간의 경과에 따른 결과가 통계적으로 유의한 변동 이 있었고, BUN, Creatinine, Uric acid와 Glucose에서는 통계적으로 유의한 변동이 있었다. Long term의 안정성 결과, 7일이 지난 후에는 Glucose의 변이는 증가하였고, 60℃에서는 Amylase가 감 소하는 양상을 보였다. Glucose와 Amylase의 경우 시간의 경과에 따른 결과가 통계적으로 유의한 변동 이 있었다. 신뢰성 있는 검사결과를 얻기 위해서는 소변 시료의 채취, 보관 및 저장 등을 비롯한 요검사 의 정확한 표준화가 필요하며 생체 물질별 안정성 확보를 위한 조건들의 체계적 연구가 필요하다.

        Damages by jellyfish are occurring frequently around the world. Among them, accidents caused by jellyfish stings are serious enough to cause death. So we designed a jellyfish blocking net and analyzed its stability to prevent sting caused by jellyfish entering the beach. To this end, the dynamic behavior of the jellyfish blocking net according to the current speed (0.25-1.0 m/s) and the net type (50, 100 and 150 mm) on the upper part of the blocking net was modeled using the mass spring model. As a result of simulations for the model, the horizontal tension (horizontal component of the mooring tension) of the mooring line increased with the decrease in the mesh size on the upper part of the blocking net at all current speeds, but exceeded the holding force at high tides faster than 0.5 m/s and exceeded the holding force at all current speeds at low tide. Therefore, the jellyfish blocking nets showed poor stability overall. The depth of the float line had a little difference according to the upper mesh size and increased lineary proportional to the current speed. However, the float line sank too much to block the incoming jellyfish. These analysis results helped us find ways to improve the stability of the jellyfish blocking net, such as adjusting the length of the mooring line and improving the holding power. Therefore, it is expected that this technology will be applied us various underwater structures to discover the weaknesses of the structures and contribute to increasing the stability in the future.
