        Vinca alkaloids from plant Vinca minor have been investigated for their effects of tyrosinase inhibition, stimulation of ROS generation and increasement of cell migration activity. The methanolic crude extract and the water-soluble fraction exhibited IC50 value of 3.1 mg/mL and 2.1 mg/mL. Vinca minor extract treatment significantly increased ROS levels in HaCaT cells, in a concentration-dependent manner. Treatments of Vinca minor extract led to increase wound closure when compared with non-treatment. Low dose (0.1% or 0.3%) of extracts have not significantly affected, compared with that in controls. By contrast, 0.5% extract have dramatic effect on wound healing activity of keratinocytes. Effects of Vinca minor extract in a filter-based cell mobility assay appear similar to that of wound closure assay, which suggests that the Vinca minor extract have wound healing effects on skin.

        Background: The light emitting plasma (LEP) has recently attracted attention as a novel artificial light source for plant growth and functional component enhancement. We investigated the effects of LEP on whitening and antioxidant activities of the plant parts of perilla. Methods and Results: Previously germianted seeds of perilla were cultivated under different light conditions (fluoresce lamp, LED red, blue, white, green, and LEP) in a culture room for 2 months. Parts of perilla were harvested and extracted in 70% EtOH. The extracts were used to detect total phenolic contents, total flavonoid contents, 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), 2,2’-azino-bis- 3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid (ABTS), reducing power and tyrosinase inhibition activity as indicators of biological activity. Biological activity was highest in seedlings grown under LEP. The total phenolic content was highest in the stems and the total flavonoid content was highest in the roots of perilla exposed to LEP. The DPPH and ABTS radical activity in all the parts of perilla exposed to LEP were higher by approximately three-fold compared to that in the control (fluoresce lamp). The reducing power values of perilla significantly increased after treatment with LEP. In addition, all the extract of perilla plants exposed to LEP promoted the tyrosinase inhibitory activity. These results suggest that LEP can be an important artificial light source for enhancement of biological activity. Conclusions: LEP could promote whitening and antioxidant activity of perilla.

        본 연구에서는 기질 화합물로써 일련의 4-hydroxybenzyl alchol (4-HBA) 유도체들의 치환기(R1 및R2) 변화에 따른 tyrosinase 활성저해에 관한 3차원적인 구조-활성 상관관계(3D-QSARs) 모델을 유도하고정량적으로 검토하였다. 그 결과, 입체장(S), 정전기장(E), 소수성장(Hy), 수소결합 받게장(HA) 및 수소결합주게장(HD)의 조합조건에서 통계적으로 양호한 CoMSIA FF 모델(상관성; r2 = 0.858 및 예측성; q2 =0.951)을 유도하였다. 등고도 분석결과에 의하면 기질분자의 R2-치환기는 입체적으로 작고 음전하를 띄며, 소수성이면서 수소결합 주게장을 선호하지 않는 치환기가 올수록 tyrosinase 활성저해 작용이 용이하다. 그리고R1-치환기는 수소결합 주게장을 선호하는 치환기 이어서 R1-치환체가 용이하게 탈 양성자화가 일어나야 tyrosinase활성저해 작용을 용이하게 할 것이라고 예상되며, 이를 위해서는 R1-치환기가 비 치환체(H)이어야될 것으로 예상되었다.

        This study was conducted to investigate the antioxidative activity and tyrosinase inhibitory activity of 50%ethanol extract and its fractions from the branch of Rhododendron schlippenbachii. In DPPH radical scavenging ability,butanol and ethyl acetate fractions showed 59.98% and 55.17% of relative activity compared with positive control (ascorbicacid), but the 50% ethanol extract showed relatively low activity. In nitric oxide (NO) scavenging ability, the ethyl acetateand butanol fractions showed 141.80% and 131.55% relative activity compared with ascorbic acid as used for posi-tive control. On the other hand, tyrosinase inhibitory activity of the ethyl acetate and butanol fractions showed about twicehigher activity than positive control (arbutin). It means that the ethyl acetate and butanol fractions from the extract of R.schlippenbachii branch has ability for used as effective radical scavenger and tyrosinase inhibitor.
