This paper describes the types and features of amphibious ships which have been constructed and commissioned. The characteristics of hull form design also are studied. Design constraints due to general arrangement and the satisfaction of requirements are investigated. We represent the design concept of hull form based on the design data of the worldwide amphibious ships and our experiences.
High speed naval ships are configured with open shafts The shafts, bearings, and propellers are supported by shaft struts. Proper design of struts involves issues of structural, vibration, and hydrodynamic analysis and design. Strut arm cavitation in high speed occurs because of a misalignment of the strut arm with the local incident flow. Proper selection of the strut section can minimize the generation of cavitation. This paper describes issues in the design struts and notices based on the design of Patrol Craft and Amphibious Ship.
When design the crew's living quarter, it is very important to consider the comfort for crew as well as its function. In this paper, design concepts of crew's living quarter are investigated based upon the questionnaire survey and the respondents who have been experienced going on board . Also, some improvements for interior design of the merchant ship are presented.
In this paper, important parameters of fast catamaran hull form are investigated. Praticularly, length-displacement ratio, demihull spacing, trim and hull form on resistance performance are analyzed. Also, the usefulness of SHIPFLOW program for hull form development is studied. The computed results by using SHIPFLOW program are compared with experimental results in model test.
