분화용 바위떡풀 신품종 ‘폭스스타’ 품종은 진한 핑크색 품종인 ‘홍사자’를 모본으로 하고 핑크색 품종인 ‘양우’을 부본으로 하여 2004년 인공 교배하여 2005년에 개화특성을 보고 선발하여 2005년부터 2007년까지 증식을 하였다. 동시에 2005년부터 2007년까지 시설내에서 특성검정을 한 후 최종적으로 선정하여 ‘폭스스타’로 명명하였다. ‘폭스스타’의 개화는 10월 5일부터 시작하여 11월 하순까지 약 28일간 피었으며 꽃수는 160개 정도이고 화경수는 10.2개로 많았고 화경장은 12.6 cm의 작은 화형으로 안정적이었다. 화색은 진한 분홍색(R-P N66B)을 띄었으며 화장 2.1 cm, 화폭이 1.9 cm로 약간 작은 편이고 꽃잎 수는 6.1개로 비대자형을 이루었으며 엽장은 3.2 cm, 엽폭은 4.1 cm이었고 엽수는 84.0개로 많았다.
A new Saxifraga fortunei cultivar ‘Foxstar’ was bred by crossing between ‘Hongsaja’ with red purple (RPN66A) colored petals and ‘Yoangwoo’ with light pink (RPN57C) colored petals. The selection and flower characterization were conducted from 2004 to 2008 in greenhouse of Highland Agriculture Research Center, NICS, RDA. The flowering of ‘Foxstar’ occurred from October 5 for 28 days, The number of flowers per plant was 160.0 with many flowering habit. The flower shows dark pink (RPN66B) color at the opening, The number of petals were 6.1, with a width of 1.9cm and length of 2.1 cm. The plant height was 12.6 cm, and number of flower stem was 10.2, and number of leaves per plant was 84.0. ‘Foxstar’ cultivar can be used for pot flower. Fifty percent shading is a good cultural practice against direct sunlight and soft rot disease would occurs usually by over-irrigation.
