강원도농업기술원에서는 2003년 무름병에 비교적 강하고 화색과 화형이 좋은 품종인 분홍색의 ‘Super Gem’과 꽃이 많고 진분홍색 의 ‘Lipstick’을 각각 모본과 부본으로 하여 인공 교배하였다. 2003년 10월에 30개의 종자를 수확 후 2004년 2월에 파종하여 1년 동안 양구한 구근은 2005년에 개화특성을 검정하여 화색과 화 형이 좋은 GWCL05027을 선발하였으며, 2006년에 포장 재배하여 자구 증식률, 초장과 초세 등 1차 특성검정 후 2차 선발 하였다. 2010과 2011년에 특성검정과 재배시험을 통하여 균일성과 안정성이 인정되어 ‘립글로(Lip Glow)’를 육성하였다. 화포 외부의 주된색은 붉은 분홍색이며, 폭은 5.2cm, 개화소요일수는 76일, 초장은 63.6cm, 괴경은 46.1g으로 주로 절화용으로 이용 가능하다.
A new calla (Zantedeschia spp.) cultivar was bred by artificial crossing between female parent Zantedeschia spp. ‘Super Gem’ with rose-pink to lavender spathe, and male parent ‘Lipstick’ with deep rose to velvety spathe at Gangwon Provincial Agricultural Research and Extension Services on 2003 in Korea. 30 seeds were harvested in October 2003 and seeded in February 2004. The ‘GWCL0527’ with red pink color spathe and vigorous characteristic was selected from the seedlings in 2005-2006. Growth and flowering characteristic tests were conducted from 2010 to 2011. Based on the evaluation of its characteristics, a new calla cultivar ‘Lip Glow’ was developed in 2011 for cut flower. The spathe color is red pink (RP59B) and diameter is 5.2 cm, days to flowering are 76 days, and plant height is 63.6 cm. Tuber fresh weight is 46.1 g.
