본 연구에서는 다문화 사회에 대한 고찰을 통하여, 현 우리나라의 다문화 사회의 정의와 실태 그리고 정책적인 지원 등에 관하여 살펴보고자 하였다. 이것은 다문화 사회의 패러다임 변화의 국제조류에 따라 우리나라 현 사회의 변화의 동향을 살펴본 것이며, 이를 토대로 우리나라의 다문화 정책과 현장에 대한 방향성을 제시하고자 한다. 이를 위하여 서론에서는 우리나라의 다문화 사회의 배경에 대하여 살펴보았고, 본론에서는 이를 위한 구성요소인 다문화 가족의 정의와 각종 실태 및 현황 그리고 정책의 지원에 대하여 알아보았다. 이를 통하여 본 다문화 사회의 고찰에서는 결론적으로 다문화 사회를 준비하는 우리 사회에서 장기적인 전망과 단계적 전략을 정교화 하여야 함을 제시하였다. 우리나라의 다문화 사회의 성공적인 정착을 위해서는 우리 한국 사회의 다문화 현실을 바로 진단하고, 어떤 다문화주의를 적용할 단계인지 지속적으로 논의한 이후 이에 대한 사회적 합의를 도출해야 할 것임을 제시하였다. 또한 다문화 사회는 정부가 일방적으로 정책을 주도할 수 없는 환경이기 때문에 정부와 시민 사회 구성이 협력할 수 있는 구조를 고안하여 대책을 마련해야 할 것이라는 결론을 도출하였으며 이에 대한 전반적인 현황과 실태를 조사하여 제시하였다.

This study is to explore the definition, actual conditions, and political support for multicultural families in Korea. This examines Korea's changing trends towards multicultural families following the changes in the international paradigm, and based on this, we should suggest the directions for multi-cultural policies and their reality. For this purpose, we have to examine the background of multicultural society in Korea in the introduction, and in the main body we look into the definition and various conditions or states as well as political support for multi-cultural families. After that, we suggested that there should be the elaboration of long term prospects and phased strategies in our society, which is preparing to embrace multiculturalism. In order to accomplish this, we suggest that we should first diagnose the reality of the multicultural society in Korea, then consistently debate what stage of multiculturalism should be applied, and that way we can settle a social agreement. Also, it is true that in a multicultural society, the government is unable to take the lead in deciding and pushing policies unilaterally. From this fact, we deduce a conclusion that it is necessary to design a system in which the government and the civil society can cooperate, and we explore general conditions regarding this issue.
