본 연구는 우리나라 산림박물관 10개소에서 운영 중인 체험 및 교육프로그램의 운영 실태를 파악하여 산림박물관의 효과적인 운영 및 관리를 위한 기초자료를 제공하기 위하여 실시하였다. 우리나라 산림박물관의 체험 및 교육프로그램은 기대도보다 만족도가 높은 항목은 없는 것으로 조사되었다. 체험 및 교육프로그램 이용 대상연령의 다양성, 학습도구로서의 전시구성, 지역외부기관의 연계성 등의 경우 전시기법이나 재료가 학습도구로서 역할을 할 수 있도록 다양한 노력을 해야 할 것이다. 산림박물관과 수목원을 연계한 체험교육프로그램을 통하여 체험 위주의 전시연출을 위해 이용객들의 다양한 의견을 참조하고, 체험전시의 주제와 내용전달 방식 등을 조화롭게 구성해야 한다. 또한 지역단체가 같이 참여 할 수 있는 참여형 산림박물관의 역할을 수행할 수 있도록 다양한 전시기획을 마련해야 한다.

This study was performed to provide basic data to effectively operate and manage forest museums by identifying the current operation status of experiential and educational programs at ten forest museums in Korea. The forest museums had no categories in which the level of satisfaction for their experiential and educational programs exceeded the visitor’s expectation level. The forest museums required various efforts on the exhibition techniques and the role of learning tools of the experiential and educational programs considering visitor’s age class, the exhibition style as a learning, tools, and the connectivity with local organizations. Overall, the forest museums should refer to the various opinions of users to present experience-oriented exhibitions through experiential programs that connect forest museums and arboretums, and should harmoniously organize the themes and content delivery methods of experiential exhibitions. In addition, they should prepare various exhibition plans to play the role of a participatory forest museum.
