본 연구는 원예치료 프로그램이 생활 시설 내 정신지체 장애인의 직업기술에 미치는 영향에 대하여 알아보고자 2006년 1월부터 2006년 12월까지 매주 1회씩 원예치료 프로그램을 총 46회 실시하였다. 손기능 평가 결과 후반기로 갈수록 손기능이 향상되었다. 직업기술 평가 결과 신체능력과 직업행동 항목에서 꾸준히 향상되었다. 적응행동 평가 결과 전체적으로 큰 변화가 없었으나 사회화 항목의 평균점수가 향상되었다. 이상의 결과로부터 반복적이고 장기간에 걸친 원예치료프로그램이 정신지체 장애인의 직업기술을 향상시킬 수 있으며 앞으로 많은 연구가 이루어져야 한다고 판단된다.

This study demonstrated how the horticultural therapy program affects on vocational skills of the mentally disabled. The study was performed with six mentally disabled in a institution, which is located in Gyeongsan. Forty-six sessions were performed once a week for 12 months. Vocational skill were evaluated using Purdue Pegboard Test, Vocational Skill Test, and Adaptive Behavior Test, which were measured before, during and after horticultural therapy program. The results indicated that hand function of Purdue Pegboard test was significantly improved. The scores of body ability and vocational action of the vocational skill test were improved, however, there were no statistically significant differences shown in adaptive behavior. Finally, We could say that vocational skill of the mentally disabled would be improved, if they could be treated with repeated and long-term treatment of horticultural therapy program.
