The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of a horticultural therapy on self-concept and behavioral changes in children with broken homes. Horticultural therapy program in this experiment fulfilled three stages as former, medium, later and made the good use of flowers and plants. The results from the evaluation on self-concept for the children with broken homes, both emotional self item and social self item statistically showed the significant difference after performance of the horticultural therapy program. However, family self item did not showed significant difference. On the basis of the K-CBCL evaluation, the children with broken homes had higher scores in all evaluation item though they showed personal difference after performance of the horticultural therapy program. Especially, these children' behavior improved in attention problem. In result of KHY evaluation, emotional and social development were increased with times of horticultural therapy program. The children with broken homes had higher scores in some items of emotional development such as ability of concentration, fulfillment and emotional expression. Futhermore, the children with broken homes had also higher scores in some items of social development such as sociality, leadership and cooperativeness. The result from individual evaluation of horticultural therapist for the children with broken homes, the children' behavior improved in attention, creativity, observation, responsibility, and cooperativeness. Therefore, they showed positive effect on the emotional and social development. As a consequence of the above research result, it can be found out that the horticultural therapy program has positive effect on enhancing the self-concept and behavioral change of children with broken homes. Therefore, it is found out that the development of horticultural therapy program should be needed more systematically for the children with broken homes.
