This study was conducted to investigate the effect of substrates and nutrient treated at last year on the growth of 3 plants for bonsai of this year. Pinus thunbergii, Carpinus turczaninovii, and Pyracantha angustifolia were used in this study, 3 types substrates and 3 concentration of nutrient were treated, and the growth was measured at last year Oct. 16. 2006 and this yeat Oct. 16. 2007. The growth change ratio was calculated by the difference growth value of two years. All of 3 plants showed the higher growth ratio as increased the content of organic matter such as peatmoss and coir, and the root growth ratio of Carpinus turczaninovii, and Pyracantha angustifolia were similar that of shoot, however in Pinus thunbergii the growth ratio of root was reverse that of shoot. With nutrient strength, the shoot growth ratio of 3 plants showed the same trend of substrates results.
