진적색을 가진 비모란 선인장 품종을 개발하기 위해서 진적색을 가진 ‘설홍’ 품종을 모본으로 하고 진적색의 ‘후홍’ 품종을 부본으로 하여 2008년에 국립원예특작과학 원 선인장 온실에서 교배하였다. 기내에서, 수확된 종자 는 100mL 삼각플라스크에 활성탄이 첨가된 Kyoto 배지 에 파종하였으며, 발아된 유묘를 어린 삼각주에 접목하 여 시험관에서 6개월 동안 재배하였다. 6개월 키운 유묘 를 2차로 접목하여 온실에 정식하여 2012년까지 비모란 선인장의 다양한 특징을 3회에 걸쳐 조사하였다. ‘일홍’ 품종은 편원형의 모양과 진적색의 구색을 가지고 있다. 또한, 8~10개의 결각과 회갈색의 직립형 짧은 가시를 가지고 있다. 정식 10개월 후 ‘일홍’ 품종의 구직경은 44.7mm로 ‘설홍’ 품종에 비해 큰 편이었다. 번식 수단이 되는 자구는 10개월 동안 평균 18.0개를 생산한다.
For breeding the cultivar of moon cactus, Gymnocalycium mihanovichii, with dark red color, it was crossed between ‘Seolhong’ cultivar with dark red color and ‘Huhong’ cultivar with dark red color at the cactus greenhouse of National Institute of Horticultural & Herbal Science in 2008. The harvested seeds were germinated in 100 mL mass flask filled with Kyoto & charcoal medium, and grown for 6 months in test tube after grafting in vitro. After re-grafting and planting in greenhouse during 2010- 2012, the growth characteristics were evaluated three times. ‘Ilhong’ cultivar has flat round shape and dark red skin. In addition, it has 8 to 10 ribs and gray & brown straight spines on the body. Its diameter was 44.7 mm after 10 months from planting and bigger compared with that of ‘Seolhong’ cultivar. This cultivar exhibited efficient propagation ability, and produced average 18.0 offsets in 10 months.
