본 논문은 한국의 대표적 작곡가로서 서양기법을 수용하였으나 모방에 그치지 않고 이를 한국 적인 것과 혼용하여 자신만의 스타일을 구축하였던 이상근의 피아노 작품 중 우연성 음악인 《피아 노를 위한 투영 Ⅰ》과 《투영 Ⅱ》의 음고 구조를 분석·고찰 하는 것이 그 목적이다. 본 논문에서 는 한국적 음향을 완전 4도 음정에 해당하는 ‘음정류 5’와 이의 확장인 ‘새야화현’을 집합류 (027)의 적용이라는 관점에서 접근하였다. 그 결과 《투영 Ⅱ》는 음정류 5를 중심으로 확장된 집합류가 선 율, 화성의 근간을 이룬다는 점에서 한국적 음향을 서양적 어휘와 적절하게 혼용하여 작곡자의 독창 적 스타일을 구축한 작품이라 할 수 있다. 반면에 《투영 Ⅰ》은 음정류 1 중심의 반음계주의와 음 정류 6이 조화를 이루어 선율, 화성, 성부진행, 그리고 12음고의 체계적 구상을 이루는 현대적 성향 이 강한 작품임을 시사한다.
이상근은 《투영 Ⅰ》과 《투영 Ⅱ》의 연주시 반드시 단편 A1으로 시작하여 B4로 종결되어야 하며 단편 A와 B는 번갈아 연주되어야 한다는 불확정성 이면의 확정적 요소를 제시한다. 이로 인하 여 《투영 Ⅰ》과 《투영 Ⅱ》의 단편 A와 B는 서로 상이한 음고 소재를 근간으로 구상되었다. 음고 구조 분석은 A♭중심음을 점차 발전시키는 《투영 Ⅰ》의 단편 A, 주요 집합류를 단편 A 각 부분에 서 발췌하여 재인용·확장 시키는 《투영 Ⅱ》와 같은 각 단편 내의 새로운 양상을 주지할 수 있게 해주며, 따라서 우연성 음악임에도 불구하고 연주자에게는 연주 순서의 또 다른 가능성을 제시해 준 다.

Sanggun Lee (1922-2000), an early Korean composer, not only approved of contemporary western techniques, but also incorporated these techniques in preexisting Korean music and further established his own compositional styles. This paper aims to analyze the pitch structure of his indeterminacy music, Projection Ⅰ and Projection Ⅱ, by using set-theoretical approach in order to reconsider how Lee’s ‘Korean sounds’ are interpreted.
Different pitch materials are employed in fragments A and B of projection Ⅰ and Ⅱ. In Projection Ⅱ, interval class 5 as well as its incorporation with other pitch classes form fundamentals of melodic and harmonic lines. Thus, we can construe this work as Lee’s own compositional style. In Projction Ⅰ, however, the pitch structure that reflects totally chromatism and interval class 6 in the melody, harmony, and voice-leading lines define this piece as a highly experimental work, which is distinct from his other works that were composed with Korean sounds.
