임진왜란은 7년 전쟁이었다. 국토가 황폐화 되었고 백성들은 평화로운 고향을 등지고 피난길에 올랐다. 난세에는 영웅이 탄생하는 것처럼 역사에 길이 남을 이순신 장군도 임진왜란으로 인하 여 명장으로 인정받았다. 그러나 전쟁은 승리할 때가 있으면 패배할 때도 있는법, 서로를 견제 하는 당시 시대적 상황에서 모함은 야전에서 적과 싸우는 군인들에게 사기를 떨어뜨리는 작용 을 하게 된다.이순신 장군도 작전에 실패하기도 하였다. 이는 임금과 반대당파에게는 처벌의 구 실을 만들어 주는 결과가 되었고 결국 목숨까지 위태로운 지경에 이르게 되었다. 이때 당파의 이익을 떠나 인물됨과 현장 지휘관으로서의 고충을 이해하고 임금에게 용서해주기를 권했던 정 승이 있었다. 정탁은 임진왜란동안 임금을 보필하면서 전쟁을 수행한 노신하(老臣下) 였다. 임 금의 곁을 떠나지 않고 생사고락을 같이 하였으며 이순신이 어명을 어긴 죄명으로 국문을 당할 처지에 놓이게 되자 임금에게 구명상소를 올려 죽음으로부터 이순신을 구해내었다.
우의정으로서 전쟁을 겪으면서 본 이순신의 인물됨과 전쟁 중지휘관의 처벌이 몰고 올 전쟁 실 패에 대해 미리 예견하여 목숨 걸고 임금에게 구명상소를 올린 행동은 오늘날 군인들이 배워야 할 부분이다.

Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592 was a 7-year war. National land was devastated and people rose on refuge way turning their backs on their peaceful hometowns. As a hero admiral Yi Sun-shin appeared in the turbulent age. He was acknowledged as a great commander by that war and also will remain long in history. However, there's a time in a war to win or lose. The slander in that situation in which people hold each other in check decreases the morale of soldiers who fight enemies in field battle.
Admiral Yi Sun-shin also failed in operation. This made a cause for punishment to king and opposing part and as a result he reached to the point of a fatal situation. At this time there was a premier who understood what kind of person Yi Sun-shin was and the difficulties he had as a field commander and asked for his forgiveness.
Jeong Tak was an old vassal who assisted king and carried out the war during Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592. Without leaving and with sharing of all the joys and sorrows with king, he saved Yi Sun-shin by appealing life-saving petition to king as Yi Sun-shin was placed onto the position to receive severe interrogation because of his disobeying king's order.
Today's soldiers should learn from his behavior of appealing to king for Yi Sun-shin's life by risking his own and predicted the failure of war the punishment of commander Yi Sun-shin would bring as he witnessed Yi Sun-shin's personality while he also went through the war as vice premier.
