이 연구는 미디어의 다문화 담론분석을 통해 현재 한국 사회의 다문화 담론의 방향성에 대해 조명해 보았다. 세계화시대 다문화 담론은 전 세계적인 핵심 논제가 되고 있다. 이는 한국도 예외가 아니어서 다문화 정책이나 다문화주의에 대한 논의들이 활발하게 진행 중이다. 이 연구는 이러한 논의들이 어떤 방향으로 초점화되고 있으며, 진행되고 있는지를『조선일보』기획기사 분석을 통해 시도했다. 이 분석을 위해 비판적 담론분석 방법과 텍스트언어학이론 등을 활용하여, 신문기사의 구조에 따라 담론을 분석하였다. 미디어에서 생산된 담론은 하나의 개념으로 정립되고, 다른 유사 담론으로 재생산되며 사회적 담론으로 규정되는 성격이 있다. 따라서 미디어가 규정하고 있는 다문화 가정에 대한 담론은 오늘날 한국 사회의 다문화 담론의 방향성을 확인하는 중요한 렌즈가 된다. 이러한 맥락에서 이 연구는 미디어에 조명된 다문화에 대한 인식과 관점을 분석하였다. 연구의 결과 현재 한국의 다문화 담론은 크게 보수적 다문화 담론, 공공의 다문화 담론, 비판적 다문화 담론 세 가지로 논의되고 있음을 확인하였다. 이 세 가지 담론은 지금 현시점에서 확인되고 있는 현실의 다문화 사회, 그리고 앞으로 나아가야 할 이상적 다문화 사회, 그리고 현실과 이상 사이의 간극에서 발생하는 문제점에 대해 비판하는 관점으로 유형화할 수 있다.

This study analyses the multicultural discourse of the media in creating mutual understanding among society and individual. Demands for “social cohesion” and “integration, Multicultural policies in general have been debated in Korea, and increasingly since the dawn of the millennium.
Texts are to be analyzed in their social settings as well as in their discursive settings(Fairclough, 1995), so analyzing the discourses of multiculturalism in media text, in this article used critical discourse analysis and textlinguistics theory.
Media texts produced what types of multiculturalism and minority identities are worth celebrating. Therefore, I examine the discourses in multiculturalism expressed in 『Chosunilbo』and endeavor to answer the question of how Multiculturalsim is defined in Korea.
