이 글은 최근 증가하고 있는 중도입국 청소년의 학교 교육기회와 적응 실태를 분석하고 이에 기초하여 정책적 제언을 시도하기 위한 것이다. 이 글에서는 주로 한국인과 재혼한 결혼 이주 여성이 동반 입국한 출신국 소생 자녀인 중도입국 청소년에 초점을 맞추었다. 결혼 이주 여성 중 재혼 여성의 비율에 따라 중도입국 청소년의 규모가 달라질 것으로 보고 관련 통계 자료를 통해 그 규모를 추정해 보았으며 선행 조사 자료를 통해 중등 학령기나 그 이상의 청소년인 경우 학교 교육기회로부터 배제되는 비율이 높음을 알 수 있었다. 면담 자료를 통해 이들의 가정 환경이나 교육적인 면에서의 취약성을 드러냈다. 아울러 학교나 대안학교 진입 경로를 파악해 보았으며, 이들의 학교 적응의 어려움을 한국어와 학습 언어 습득, 또래관계에서의 보이지 않는 경계, 교사의 지지망 역할 부족으로 구분하여 드러내 보았다. 끝으로 교육기회 획득과 적응 실태를 단서로 교육기회의 보장과 적응을 위하여 학교 제도의 개선, 이들을 위한 지원 정책 등을 다각적으로 제안하였다.

This study analyzes the state of school education opportunities for and the adaptation of immigrant youth recently increasing and attempts to provide policy recommendations. Immigrant youth this study is focused on are mainly children from previous marriages migrant women married to Korean men have brought to Korea. The study premises that the number of immigrant youth depends on the ratio of remarried women among immigrant women who came to Korea to get married to Korean men and used related statistics to estimate the scale of immigrant youth. According to previous studies, a few number of the immigrant youth of or over middle and high school age are excluded from school education opportunities in Korea. Interviews with the youth revealed they suffer from educational and family environment weaknesses. Furthermore, the study investigated their path of entering schools or alternative schools, which showed that their difficulties in adapting to school life are due to the difficulty of learning Korean, invisible alienation from class mates, and a lack of support from teachers. Based on the analysis, we have provided improvements in the school system and policy support for the immigrant youth conditions from multifarious angles as conditions for their acquisition of educational opportunities and adaptation in school life.
